Early arrivers were greeted by Timmi Lemen , Jeannette Stewart and Janice Rowles. These were the smiling faces that greeted you at the gate and checked you in. Also thank you to Geri Azevedo and Lea deMontigny for backing these ladies up when they were over loaded with early arrivers. Our Concierge’s Jeannette Stewart and Timmi Lemen kept busy helping campers find spots to park their rigs so all could have water and electric service. This is a long tiring job and these people do it for days while never loosing their sense of humor. You ladies ROCK! The fairgrounds have done a lot of work on the park in the last year including putting in new arena sand which made it almost dust free this year. Our tractor crew had less tractor work to do, but lots more watering to do to get the arenas ready for Saturday’s Set-up events. The new ground at Bolado park was extremely difficult to work with this year to get it to CGA’s expectations, and with the guidance from Skip Hofman, our arena crew was able to pull it off. We had AAA+ and Supreme times ran, and even had one record broken. The arena crew this year was OUTSTANDING! Thank you to Robert Frates, Micky Brunelli and Richard Breckbuehl for a GREAT job of having all the arenas ready so we could start on time every morning. This year these guys worked their butts off trying to keep the ground together and safe for our riders. Dianna Malley was the “Barn Manager” again this year. Dianna you did a great job of making sure all was well in the barns. I know this is a huge thankless job and is very much appreciated. Bob Vaughn, Mike Behning, Christopher and Nathan Rowles were in charge of all the electrical for State Show. From the sound system to the hookups for lots of campers these guys do it all. It is a huge amount of work and we all appreciate what they do. Once again the entertaining voice of Conrad Fimbres was heard heading up Matchraces. Conrad’s crew consisted of his wonderful wife Maria, Andy Krogh, Randy and Janet Young. Randy’s arena crew (helping all week) were Robert Krogh, Melissa Krogh, as well as a lot of others that jumped in to help with matchraces. A special thanks to Lisa, Ashley, Stefani & Skip Hofman , Christopher & Nathan Rowles, Robert Frates and Rodger Odom for helping with Calcutta every night. Thank you all again for all your help, it really gives me a chance to visit with everyone after a long day. This years First Aid Crew consisting of Sheri Herchkorn and Mikey Brunelli did a great job of helping the unfortunate few that had unexpected dismounts. Mikey Thank you so much for taking care of my granddaughter Haley Ludewig when her dismount resulted in two broken arms. I was the “Bad Grandma” in the stands yelling for her to get up and shake it off. Mikey also helped with arena setup each day. He truly is a huge help at the show. This year team events were headed up by Diana Malley and Ellen Carr. You guys did a great job even though Ellen was hobbling around in a cast from a broken foot. We had 10 riders participate in the Lead Line division this year. A BIG thank you to Janice Rowles for getting the trophies made for our Lead Line riders. I think they were beautiful and the kid all enjoyed them very much. This is truly the future of CGA out there and so much fun to watch. If you missed it you should plan to come and see them next year. They have the biggest smiles on their little faces, and have all mastered the art of waving to the crowd as they are lead through the course. The kids games, hosted by Sally Rivera, Stacy Rivera and Shelly Njirich were as always a big hit. These ladies work all year long preparing for these games so the non-riders as well as the riders have fun things to do during the week long show. Wednesday afternoon after the novice matchraces we had everyone gather around the dunk tank to have a chance to dunk their favorite or least favorite CGA official. Thank you to our President Rick Long, Board of governors Rodger Odom, Dianna Malley and Robert Frates, as well as all the others that “volunteered” to take a turn getting wet. Thank you to Cynthia Long for being our top spender at the dunk tank. Cynthia took the afternoon off from busting her butt in the snack shack all week and seemed to really enjoy dunking Rick. She even bought an additional $20.00 worth of balls for kids to throw at Rick. Great job Cynthia! Skip and Rodger also put together and run the BBQ each year. Thank you Robert Frates, Mikey Brunelli, Jennifer Frates, Richard Brechbuehl, Sheri and Danna Herchkorn, Lesa, Ashley and Stefani Hofman. Thank You to the Queen and court for serving and cleaning up afterwards. Carnival night on Wednesday after the BBQ was a huge success. There were lots of games and bingo for the big kids. Thank you Mike Behning , Christopher and Nathan Rowles for drawing and announcing the bingo for us. If you missed it you might want to plan to attend next year, it was a lot of fun. Janice Rowles, Nicole Mitchell, Sheri Herchkorn and Danna Herchkorn as well as the CGA Queen and Court, were a great help handing out awards. This is a lot of work after a long day so hats off to you ladies. The familiar voice of Mike Behning once again was heard as our high Point awards announcer. (continued on page 17)

DISTRICT 27 - IONE/SUTTER CREEK JACKSON AREA CASTLE COUNTRY RIDERS

http://www.cga27.comBy Carole Lindstrom

First of all let me say I have been resistant to going to the State Shows for all theseyears, it’s expensive, it’s 10 days away from home and I couldn’t imagine how itcould be as much fun as people kept telling me. So this year, at the age of 74, with agreen horse who is just getting the idea, I decided to go. I was encouraged byJoyce Driggers and Jeanne and Don Dudak who were also first timers and a host offriends from D 7 and D 27. Even my ever patient husband said “Go, I’ll take care ofeverything at home.” OK, so I went and what did I think? Well here it is, the good,

Page 16

DISTRICT 30 PHELAN-HESPERIA AREADUSTY SPURS

the bad and would I go again.

Right off the bat camping was a disappointment. Joyce and I arrived shortly afternoon on Thursday to discover all the good camping sites were taken and we had topark in the alley way in dirt. At least we were with friends, thanks to John Kreskaand Karin Hoffee. Managed to save space for Don and Jeanne across the alley wayso at least we had shade both morning and afternoon. We got power and water toboth rigs so all was good. The area can get really hot so Air Conditioning is darnednice. We were a loooong walk from the nearest rest rooms and showers which weredefinitely not going to make the Good Sam Top Camping site list.

Saturday was Set Up day and since both Joyce and I thought our horses wouldfreak out at the Huge Grand Stand we signed up for rides there and one of the other4 arenas. So, what was my stupid horse afraid of? The outside fence around therace track behind which were parked horse trailers in which, he was convinced, livedmonsters!!! Geldings, what can I say!

Sunday the show began and we all had to be there early for the Grande Entry. Welooked sharp, many of us in our white shirts by Bradley Ware. We had a greatbunch to ride with us. I was very proud of district 2 7. Since Jeanne was ridingAAA she had to be ready early. We A riders took our time and got out on the warmup track (right near the monsters) where we waited....and waited...and waited. Bythe time we finally ran our first event Jeanne was finished and had her horse put up.It was a long frustrating day, we barely had time to grab dinner and get back to thegrand stand for Match races. Since we had signed up to work Quadrangle we hadalready worked it during set ups and the show that day and now had to work it forthe Match Race.

We set up our event while another district set up beside us and the State people setup the timers. The top 16 riders in QR were sold at Calcutta, (that could be anotherwhole story), and the race was on. Two riders ran QR side by side.....Oh my goshthey are flying. They ran to eliminate all but two and then the championship run. Idon’t remember who the winners were but it was awesome!!! Match Races ranevery night after the show in whatever events ran that day. I must say, I reallyenjoyed that. Very exciting.

Day two and the rest ran much the same though we got smarter about how early weneeded to be there. It was a long hike from our camp to the stalls and though somepreferred to walk I drove my truck and parked as close as possible. Sorry, my feetjust don’t like long walks.

I was amazed when my name was called for the Novice match races on Wednesday.I had finished 2nd in my age division but had to run against all the A riders whoqualified. It was a ball. Had to beat 3 really good riders to win the buckle and whata lot of fun that was. Got a wonderful buckle and Jeanne and I split a nice cashprize. Cool!!!

The team races were a lot of fun. Jeanne and John Kresha went for 2 man speed ballbut didn’t do well. After watching all the team racing Joyce and I and Jeannedecided next time we’d sign up for them all. Might as well go for it.

I have to hand it to Skip, Roger, Phyllis and all those who worked so hard to put theshow on. They did an awesome job with less than perfect ground and, a disap-pointing amount of help from riders and, as always, lots of complaining, but I thinkthey really need to work on their people skills. There was lots of complaining abouthow members were treated. A gentle reminder about rules goes a lot further thanthreats.

So will I go back? I haven ‘t decided. Some of the plans announced at the awardshow made me hopeful that it might be more fun next time. Two events a day wouldhelp and starting one day sooner would be good too. The park its self couldcertainly improve by making all the Power hook ups good and improving the bathand restroom facilities. Ask me next May how I feel. We shall see.

In the mean time, let’s get back to Gymkhana!!!

See ya round the barrelsCarole

Hello Riders,Well the new season is just about to start. Our first show will be Oct 3rd, 4th, and5th, 2014 Jamboree. We are all very excited about hosting it again this year. I havecomplete faith that Chris, Nathan and Pinky will do the best they can to have thesafest and fastest ground in the state of California. This will be a great opportunityto get the new season started off with goal setting runs. We have proven in the pastto produce some of the fastest ROC times. So I hope to see you all there. The entryand contact information is posted in this newspaper and will also be available on theCGA website. We will be at the fairgrounds starting on Thursday Oct 2nd after 3 pm,so if you would like to come early just let us know. Setups will start about 2 pm onFriday. I was excited to hear from new people during state that told me they will beattending this year. We have stalls and you are allowed to bring your own portables.Sorry just dry camping is available.

We have some tentative dates set with the Elks for November and next year. We arejust waiting to get the final Contract Signed. We are also looking at a couple otherarena’s as a second backup. Our District ended on a very successful note. I want to congratulate those that wereable to attend this year’s state finals. Sierrah Madrigal was are big star, she broke aState arena record in Key Hole, won overall Top Speed events and Skilled events, aMatch race and a saddle. Tom Shiffrar also won the saddle for his division. ChrisRowles and Trew Mitchell won 2nd place saddle pads, and Kayla and Allyson wonthe bronc halter for 3rd place High Point. The rest of us won lots of buckles andcollected lots of medallions. Thank you all of you that showed up to representDistrict 40: Shannon and Nanna Lemons; Katelyn and Kalya Hurl; Chris, Nathan, and Mitchell Rowles; Leia Larson; Rylee and Kelsey Morain; Kayla Chavez; ReneeLedesma; Jessica Townsend; Trew and Nicole Mitchell; Tom, Cheyenne, and meShiffrar. As you can see we are a family oriented group and I am so proud to ridewith all of them. I also want to thank those that came and helped support us:Johanna Hurl, Janice Rowles, Susan and Rick Townsend, and Laura and Tony Rice,Stephanie and her hubby Morain. I also want to thank Margo and Megan Abatti,Wes and Vicky Womble for driving up just to help with our event - Flags. District 14is also a special part of our family.

I have to point out how well we did in Match races. Every night we had 4 to 7 ridersthat qualified to competed out of the 16. We may not have won them all and some ofus just made it in the first round. That damn red light would pop up. Either waymyself and all of us are extremely proud to have made a statement in every night forMatch Races. Go District 40!!!

Good Luck to the start of another season with CGA and don’t worry the state finalsis just around the corner.

Hello all of CGA!!!!

District 40 is VERY PROUD to be hosting 2014 Jamboree. We cant wait to see everyone again. Those of you whohave ridden on our dirt have had some phenomenal runs. We will do everything in our power to provide some moresafe and fast ground.

High point awards will be the beautiful Jamboree buckles with ribbons to 5th place in each event in each division.

This will be a great way to get started achieving your times for the 2014/2015 season. Remember if we have a wet year, it could be a long winter so getstarted early.

Please check out the CGA web page for the entry form. I will also post it on my face book page, Craig’s List and any where else I can. Please helpspread the word.

We have dry camping available and lots and lots of stalls. If you have any questions please contact me Allyson CCR - D40, [email protected],805-720-6593 or Phyllis at the state office 209-665-7977.

I look forward to see all of you in October!!!

Jackpots in all events - 100% Pay back 5D See the Jackpot explanation on the back page of this paper

Explanation of 5-D JackpotsFor All CGA State Sponsored Shows

Note: District’s may alter all the Jackpot options as they choose for local shows running jackpots orMystery jackpots

Riders may optionally enter a jackpot for any or all of the regular events. The cost is an additional $5.00per event, and a rider may choose to enter the Jackpot for none, some, or all of the regular events. Thesejackpots are unrelated to the rider’s division or age, and whether or not they are riding a horse or a pony. They are based strictly on the time the rider achieves in that event. Only the times of the Riders enteringthe Jackpots count. The size of the payout is determined by the number of riders in the jackpot. ThePayout is:

Fastest ride - 40 % of the jackpot2-D ride - 30 % of the jackpot3-D ride - 10 % of the jackpot4-D ride - 10 % of the jackpot5-D ride - 10 % of the jackpotCGA - None. All jackpot money is paid back to the riders.

2-D, 3-D, 4-D and 5-D rides are those that come the closest (without going faster) to the fastest timeof those entering the jackpot +(plus) the adjustment factor for that event. The adjustment factors arelisted below.

Event 2-D Adjustment 3-D Adjustment 4-D Adjust. 5-D Adjust.BAR + 1.380 + 2.761 + 4.141 + 5.521BR + 1.120 + 2.241 + 3.361 + 4.481F8F + 3.130 + 6.260 + 9.391 + 12.521F8S + 0.820 + 1.640 + 2.461 + 3.281HS + 1.564 + 3.127 + 4.691 + 6.255KH + 1.317 + 2.634 + 3.951 + 5.268P1 + 1.534 + 3.067 + 4.601 + 6.135P2 + 2.367 + 4.734 + 7.101 + 9.468QR + 1.587 + 3.174 + 4.761 + 6.348SBL + 1.204 + 2.407 + 3.611 + 4.815SBR + 0.814 + 1.627 + 2.441 + 3.255SSR + 0.544 + 1.087 + 1.631 + 2.175BT + 2.035 + 4.070 + 6.105 + 8.140

For example, if the fastest ride in Poles I was 10.990 seconds, and the jackpot was $400.00, then thatrider would receive $160.00. The rider closest to the 2-D time of 12.524 (10.990 + 1.534) withoutgoing faster would receive $120.00. The rider closest to the 3-D time of 14.057 (10.990 + 3.067)without going faster would receive $40.00. The rider closest to the 4-D time of 15.591 (10.990 +4.601) without going faster would receive $40.00. The rider closest to the 5-D time of 17.125 (10.990+ 6.135) without going faster would receive $40.00.
