Sydney City – The Host with the Most
Sydney is Australia's largest and most famous city. It is home to beautiful beaches,
iconic buildings, historic landmarks, award-winning restaurants, and a vibrant
culture. From the breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour to the serene tranquillity
of Hyde Park, Sydney has something for everyone.
Sydney is classified as an Alpha+ World City by the Globalization and World Cities
study group, indicating its influence in the region and throughout the world,
ranking among the top global cities in the world.
Sydney Harbour
In 2010, Sydney was ranked seventh in Asia and 28th globally for economic
innovation in the Innovation Cities Top 100 Index. In 2013 The Wealth Report
ranked Sydney as the seventh most economically important city in the world.
Sydney also ranks among the top ten most liveable cities in the world.
Sydney enjoys a relaxed outdoor and beach lifestyle, combined with arts and
culture, fine food and wine, nature and cosmopolitan shopping and nightlife.
Life in Sydney centres on the harbour. Catch a ferry at Circular Quay for views of
the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge from the water. Darling
Harbour is a favourite family leisure and entertainment precinct.

In the city centre, historic arcades such as the Queen Victoria Building and The
Strand are packed with designer fashion stores. In Newtown, find vintage fashion
and quirky boutiques; while Mosman and Double Bay have more upmarket
boutiques and cafes. Sydney is ethnically and culturally diverse and is a model for
assimilation and inclusive development.
Chinese New Year Celebrations
Unwind in tranquil spaces such as Centennial Parklands, Hyde Park or the Royal
Botanic Gardens. Don’t miss the world-famous beaches of Bondi and Manly. The
city’s coastal walks are a perfect way to take in the golden beaches, dramatic
headlands, sandstone cliffs and national parks.
Flinders Island
Sydney is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the east, the Blue Mountains to the
west, the Hawkesbury River to the north and the Royal National Park in the south.
Congress Program
The Organising Committee has invited global leading speakers from Europe, the
USA, South America, Asia, Canada, Australia and New Zealand to share
knowledge about research, project case studies, new technology, policy, design and
specification, water management. Our theme is 'Developing with Nature' because
there is a strong demand pushing an inevitable transition to green infrastructure
planning and technology using green roofs, living walls and urban landscapes to
provide well-being, food, recreation, amenity, energy efficiency, cleaner air & water
and new habitats for fauna and flora. Urban sprawl is rapidly spreading and we
need to incorporate nature rather than clearing nature and ecosystems . Some
keynote speakers attending are:
Mr. Raphael Garcia, Garcia, Landscape Architect, Ecologist, San Francisco,
USA
Prof. Manfred Koehler, Landscape Architect, Lecturer, Researcher,
Germany
Mr. Jeffrey Bruce, Architect, Chicago
Mr. François Lassalle, Strasbourg, France

In addition to the three days of training, workshops and presentations, this year’s
congress also features extensive extra-curricular and social function activities.
As part of WGIC 2014, we will be going on a first hand exploration of Sydney
CBD’s best kept secret: Inner City Green Infrastructure Projects. A fun-filled day
with guided tours and a packed lunch at Sydney’s Royal Botanical Gardens, along
the magnificent Sydney harbour, with the Sydney Opera House as the backdrop.

Come to The Land Down Under
Wildlife Crossing
Discover Australia’s cities, from Sydney’s famous harbour to Melbourne’s cutting-
edge cultural precincts and Darwin’s laid back ambience. Visit Canberra’s national
attractions, lie on Perth’s white beaches or wander Adelaide’s expansive parklands.
In all our cities, the skyscrapers and shopping strips are just a short drive from
mountains, ocean, river and bush.
Red Centre Walk
With around 50,000 kilometres of spectacular coastline, complete with islands,
stunning beaches, fringing reefs and long meandering drives, you’ll find millions of
places to explore around our island continent. From World Heritage-listed national
parks to luxury rainforest retreats and beaches where you won’t see another
person; whichever way you experience our infinite coastline, you’ll soon discover
why it is an integral part of the great Australian lifestyle.
12 Apostles, Great Ocean Road
Drive the Pacific Coast Touring Route from Sydney to Brisbane via Byron Bay and
the Gold Coast. Follow the spectacular Great Ocean Road or the coastal drive to
the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. Explore the 74 islands that make up
Queensland’s Whitsunday Islands. Immerse yourself in the uncrowded beauty of
Tasmania’s Freycinet Peninsula. Discover the wine regions and surf beaches of
Margaret River in Western Australia’s south-west and the Fleurieu Peninsula in
South Australia.
Whitsunday Islands
Nothing says Australia quite like our Outback. The open spaces that seem to
stretch on forever tell the story of the exploration and development of our wide
brown land, and reflect Australia’s pioneering spirit and unique identity. You can
find a little bit of the outback in every state of Australia, and while the regions are
remote, they can be easily accessed from most major cities and towns.
Camel Rides at Sunset
Australia has some of the world's most distinctive and diverse natural
environments, with unique wildlife, and spectacular landscapes, including many
national parks and World Heritage Areas. From challenging four wheel drive
adventures to sprawling cattle stations of more than a million hectares and from
rugged mountain ranges and spectacular gorges to the longest stretch of straight
railway track in the world, the Australian Outback symbolises the essence of
Australia. In these areas you can get up close to our native plants and animals,
explore wide open spaces and discover ancient rainforests on the fringe of modern
cities. You can also climb snow-capped mountains and swim in some of the most
pristine water environments on earth.

Lord Howe Island
The Lord Howe Island Group is recorded by UNESCO as a World Heritage
Site of global natural significance. Most of the island is virtually untouched forest
with many of the plants and animals found nowhere else in the world. Other
natural attractions include the diversity of its landscapes, the variety of upper
mantle and oceanic basalts, the world's southernmost barrier coral reef, nesting
seabirds, and its rich historical and cultural heritage.

Blue Mountains
The Blue Mountains get their characteristic blue haze from the mixing of sunlight
with drops of oil released by the eucalypts that blanket the region's vast tablelands
and valleys. Less than two hours from Sydney by road or train, the World Heritage-
listed Blue Mountains are one of the country's most spectacular icons. Picturesque
towns afford breathtaking views, a wide variety of restaurants, accommodation and
so many fun things to do. And for a one-of-a-kind experience, don't miss Jenolan
Caves.
