The Sons of the Rio Grande formed as a trio in 1996 in the Rio Grande valley of central New Mexico. They are a stirring combination of tight trio harmony and lively instrumental work that will evoke the original Sons of the Pioneers, building on that excellent tradition with material spanning a century of Western music, including several original compositions from founding members Walen Mickey, Rob Croft, and Larry Ruebush. The title track of their debut album, Rob's song The Spirit & Beauty of the West, won the New Mexico Music Industry Award for best folk song of 2004.

Syd Masters is an award winning singer and songwriter of traditional western music. He takes pride in doing his part in keeping the modern and old west alive through vintage cowboy music and songwriting. Syd is the author and recording artist of The Official State Song of New Mexico and the 2012 AWA Male Vocalist of the Year. The Western Music Association, Academy of Western Artists and The New Mexico Music Industry have combined to nominate him for more than 40 awards over the past 15 years. “Vocalist of the Year,” “Country Song of the Year,” “Best Album,” Best Band,” Most Humorous Song,” and “Best Song” are some of the categories in which he was victorious. He and his Swing Riders are a multi-talented, thoroughly funny, hard touring, high energy cowboy band out to save vintage western music one two-step at a time!

END of TRAIL is proud to welcome Professor Farquar's Great American Medicine Show- presented by the celebrated Mountebank Professor Farquar with a most entertaining program of Music, Magic & Mirth, and featuring the delightful talents of Miss Polecat Annie. This unique attraction includes Historic narratives, comic chronicles, tall tales and unabashed balderdash. Toe-tapping tunes, bucolic ballads, lyrical laments and droll ditties of the Union and Confederacy. Astonishing and magnificent illusions, mysteries and feats of chicanery. A necromantic exposition so enigmatic, it is surely the envy of Mephistopheles himself! Hands-on instruction in card sharping, sleight of hand, old time amusements and games of skill. Thursday through Monday the matches are exclusively for Wild Bunch competitors (‘97s and Model 12s). Tuesday through Saturday the matches are exclusively for Cowboy Action competitors (Doubles , ‘97s, and ‘87s … NO Model 12s). One of the events is a five stand Sporting Clays course (50 birds), the other is a 5-Stand Three-Person Team Event (bring at least a box of

shotgun shells). The Sporting Clays competition is smokeless ONLY while the 5-Stand competition Team Event may be shot with either smokeless OR blackpowder.

The Sporting Clays rules are “standard.” For the 5-Stand Team Event, three people will be on the Stand—stations 2, 3, and 4. Each station will shoot seven birds, three singles and two pairs. The shooter will fire one shot at his/her bird (the single). If he/she misses, then the other team members may shoot to get the target. When the first pairs are thrown, the shooter must engage his two rounds, the other team members may then try for the targets (if they have not hit the ground). The final two pairs can be shot by all team members. Any team member shooting before the required shots are fired by the designated shooter is a miss on that target.

Your first round in both competitions are included in your match fees. To improve your score, you may re-enter without limits for $15/shooter/round for Sporting Clays or $7.50 for a 5-Stand Team re-entry. Only your highest score counts! Awards will be given for 1st through 3rd places in Ladies’, Men’s, and Junior’s Categories for the Sporting Clays matches. Awards will be 1st through 3rd for Smokeless and Blackpowder Teams in the 5-Stand Team competition.

STARTING PoSITIoN: Standing at position 1 or po-sition 3, shotgun in hand(s). When ready, say, “Grab the horses from the barn, and let’s Go! ”

PRoCEDURE: At the buzzer, engage three shotgun knockdown targets, move to the opposite side and re-peat. With the rifle, engage the far cowboy targets in a double tap Nevada sweep. With your pistol, engage all knockdown targets once each and the closest stationary targets and any one of the far cowboys twice each.

Stage 2, Bay 230 PISTOL, 5 SHOTGUN

STAGING: Shotgun staged at Position 2. Pistol hol-stered.

STARTING PoSITIoN: Shooter starts standing at position 2 with hand on pistol. When ready say, “We’ve come for Angel!”

PRoCEDURE: At buzzer, you may move to any po-sition. With the shotgun from position 2 engage any five shotgun targets in any order. With the pistol, from each position, engage three stationary targets three times each, and a knockdown.

STAGING: Shotgun and rifle on shelves next to build-ing. Pistol holstered.

STARTING PoSITIoN: Standing upright, hands on hat. When ready say, “Someone tipped off the law … now we’ll have to fight our way out of town! ”

PRoCEDURE: At buzzer, guns may be shot in any order.

SHoTGUN: Engage the targets in any order.

RIfLE: Engage the swinger target and the far rifle tar-gets at least three times each for ten rounds.

PISToL: Engage the nine closest stationary pistol tar-gets and the swinger three times each, in any order.

Swinger may be released at any time, but MUST be re-leased JUST prior to shooting rifle or pistol.


STAGING: Shotgun staged vertically at position 1. Pistol holstered.

STARTING PoSITIoN: At position 1, rifle in hands. When ready say, “If there’s any trouble, no guns for the General!”

PRoCEDURE: At buzzer with the rifle, engage all the hostage targets and the white target heads once each. “Move” with the shotgun to any one spot between posi-tions 1 and 2 and engage the six shotgun knockdown targets. With the pistol, engage the hostage targets four times each, and the white targets heads once each.


WILD bUNCHTM STAGES


STAGING: Rifle on one shelf at position 1, shotgun staged on the other shelf. Pistol holstered.

STARTING PoSITIoN: Standing at position 1, thumbs tucked in the center of gun belt. When ready say, “Pancho and his men are riding into town—get ‘um! ”

PRoCEDURE: At the beep, with the rifle, engage all stationary targets once each. With the shotgun, engage the four closest shotgun knockdowns, move to position 2, and engage any two shotgun knock-downs. With the pistol, engage the ten knockdowns once each, and all the stationary targets twice each.


STAGING: Shotgun staged at position 1 or position 3. Rifle staged at position 2. Pistol holstered.

STARTING PoSITIoN: Start at any position with hands behind your back. When ready say, “It’s a gunfight!”

PRoCEDURE: At buzzer, with your rifle, engage the five rifle targets once each. With the shotgun, engage two knockdowns from each position. With your pistol, from position one or three, engage the three stationary targets in a Nevada sweep starting on the center target. From position 2, release the mov-ing target and engage the far two stationary targets and the moving target in a double tap Nevada sweep starting on the center target. Repeat on the closest rifle targets.

Note: The moving target MUST be released just prior to engaging any targets from position 2 with the pis-tol.

You may start and finish at any position. It’s up to you. “Remember, it’s a gunfight!”


WILD bUNCHTM STAGES

Stage 7, Bay 720 PISTOL,9 RIFLE

STAGING: Pistol holstered.

STARTING PoSITIoN: Start standing at any position with rifle in hands. When ready say, “you’ve got to fight smart! ”

PRoCEDURE: At buzzer, engage the back row of targets twice each and the farthest rifle target three times. Move to any other position. With the pis-tol, engage three stationary targets and two knock-downs from each remaining shooting position.

All shooting positions must be used, and all targets must be engaged with the pistol (except the farthest target).

Stage 8, Bay 925 PISTOL, 6 SHOTGUN

STAGING: Pistol holstered.

STARTING PoSITIoN: Start with shotgun in hands at either window. When ready say, “one more night with Rosita, and we’ll be on our way!”

PRoCEDURE: At buzzer, with the shotgun, en-gage three knockdown targets, move to the other window, and engage three more knockdown tar-gets. Make shotgun safe into the berm. From that window, with the pistol, engage the four stationary targets in a progressive sweep starting on the out-side targets. Move through the doorway to the bar, and engage the five targets in a progressive sweep, front to back, starting on either front target for fif-teen rounds.


WILD bUNCHTM STAGES


STAGING: Rifle is staged on the table. Pistol is hol-stered.

STARTING PoSITIoN: Standing in the doorway, shotgun in hands. When ready say, “Saloons have been the ruin of many a good man!”

PRoCEDURE: At buzzer, with the shotgun engage any four knockdown targets in any order. Make the shotgun safe at the table. With your pistol, engage any four stationary targets and a knockdown, repeat using each set of stationary targets for fifteen rounds, THEN engage the far stationary targets in a 10-round Nevada sweep. With the rifle, engage the far stationary targets in a Nevada sweep.


STAGING: Rifle and shotgun staged at any position(s). Pistol holstered.

STARTING PoSITIoN: Shooter may move to any posi-tion and start with any gun. Hands grasping the top of the fence post. When ready say, “Army food is mush! We’re having buffalo tonight!”

PRoCEDURE: At buzzer

SHoTGUN: Engage the shotgun targets once each in any order.

RIfLE: Engage the far rifle targets, outside targets twice each, then the center target once. Repeat instructions.

PISToL: Engage the close buffalo targets, outside targets twice each, then the center target once. Repeat the in-structions. Repeat instructions on the far targets. Do it again. You will also at some point engage the moving buf-falo target with five rounds.You may release the moving target at any time after the beep, but when you do, you MUST engage it five times with the pistol immediately thereafter.Shooter must use all three shooting positions.

STARTING PoSITIoN: Start standing in door-way in the surrender position. When ready say, “Those Vilistas are bothering Miss Langtree! ”

PRoCEDURE: At buzzer, you may use any fire-arm from any window or doorway, “It’s up to you.”

RIfLE: Engage the four farthest rifle targets in a progressive sweep starting on the closest target.

SHoTGUN: From any other position, engage the six shotgun knockdowns.

PISToL: Engage all the round targets twice each, THEN the far tombstone targets in a degressive sweep starting on the back target.


STAGING: Shotgun staged in a window, rifle staged in the other window. Pistol holstered.

STARTING PoSITIoN: Start at either window, hands at your sides. Shooter says, “What can go wrong in a friendly little cantina? ”

PRoCEDURE: At the buzzer, with the rifle or the shotgun.

RIfLE: From one window, engage all stationary tar-gets twice each. Make rifle safe into the berm.

SHoTGUN: From a window, engage any five knock-downs once each. Make Shotgun safe into the berm.

PISToL: From any one point between the doorway and the hay bale, engage any five knockdown targets. Then, from the hay hales, engage all the stationary targets three times each.


POSSE ROSTERYou will find the Posse Roster posted at the Scoreboard on the side of the Cimarron Mercantile.To the extent possible, all requested “pairings” were accommodated.

We squad one posse into each shooting slot of 45 minutes. This amounts to approximately two minutes for each shooter, beep-to-beep. It is very important everyone make every possible effort to keep us on schedule.

IT IS IMPERATIVE you find your scheduled shooting times on the enclosed shooting schedule.You must be at the designated individual and team events by your scheduled times.

IMPoRTANT: Range o f f i c e r s will not allow anyone other than a specially designated competitor to shoot out of squaded order. If you miss your assigned shooting time, you will be DNF’d for that stage. Daytime Costumes Contest – The majority of the END of TRAIL costume contests will occur during the day on Thursday and Friday, June 25 and 26. Daytime shooting costume contest categories are Male, Female, and Juniors. A panel of judges will judge the daytime costumes. Regardless of which shooting relay you are on, you should have time to participate. You do not have to pre-register. Just show up at the designated times and sign in at the Gem Saloon. Awards are for 1st to 3rd place.

Best Dressed Convent ioneers – Conventioneers receive their own awards and are judged at the same times as the Daytime Costume Contest. No pre-registration required. Just show up and sign in at the Gem Saloon. Categories are Male, Female, and Juniors. Awards will be given from 1st – 3rd place. Waddie Costume Award – Waddies are those hard-working volunteers that have made END of TRAIL a success for over three decades, and they deserve their own costume awards.

If you are a Waddie, you must take a break from your duties and come to the Gem Saloon during judging times to participate. A first place Waddie Shooting Costume Award will be given to a Male and Female Waddie.

Best Guncart – Bring that fancy guncart to the Gem Saloon for judging on Thursday and Friday, June 25 and 26, during designated judging times. Awards will be given from 1st to 3rd place.

Best Dressed Sutler – Sutlers participate in END of TRAIL in order to sell their goods. So, our judges will be roaming Sutlers’ Row taking photos during the event. A first place award will be given to the Best Dressed Male and Female Sutler.

Soiled Dove costumes should reflect the spirit of the “Cheyenne Social Club,” a bordello working girl. Parlor House Madam costumes should portray the “older, but wiser business woman” of the era—the proprietress or manager of the “salon.” Awards from 1st to 3rd place in each category will be given immediately after the judging by a panel of judges.

The Cowboy Memorial Chapel is a non-denominational chapel available for use by any of our SASS members. It is one of the most elegant buildings on Founders Ranch, and continues to be a “work

in progress.”All efforts to date have been

accomplished through volunteer e f f o r t s o f i n t e r e s t e d S A S S members. In addition to these volunteers, the Chapel Committee is to be congratulated for their very successful efforts getting this project off the ground and funded in accordance with the original plan. Unfortunately, the job is not yet entirely complete, and we’re not

through asking for donations!While the exterior of the Chapel

looks great, the interior still requires considerable work. There are plans for a ceiling, wall coverings, electrical hookups, lights and fans, stained glass windows, a pulpit, and the like. Donation opportunities still exist for memorial plaques on pews and in other prestigious locations.

Bright and early each morning coffee will be brewing for those who need a little boost of confidence, I mean caffeine. At 10AM, the tables are set and the dainties are served. Hot tea will also be offered, and because it’s hot weather, there will be plenty of ice tea, cucumber or lemon water, and tasty goodies you are sure to enjoy. There is no charge for attendance, rather, we ask for your donation for

the SASS Scholarship Fund. Each year approximately 10-15 scholarships are offered to high achieving young people. Make sure you are a part of helping these young scholars succeed.

And don’t miss afternoon High Tea from 2:00PM–3:30PM each day to enjoy your tea or water while talented musicians play for you. High Tea has a long and varied history. When high tea began it was a small meal including bread, fruits, and sometimes cheese, crackers, or fish, served late in the afternoon because dinner was often eaten around 8 pm. At the SASS Tea Room, the tea and goodies are available all day including cookies, scones, and fruit. One thing that makes our “High Tea” special is the added live music and the best company this side of the Mississippi. You will not want to miss being a part of the relaxing and delightful afternoons with music, friends, and goodies.

The Tea Room isn’t just for the ladies. Many cowboys visit the Tea Room, including our special guest last year, John Wayne. Come in, sit a spell

and enjoy some refreshments before visiting the vendors and cleaning those firearms. This is an exciting time of year, and what would it be without our peaceful, refreshing Tea Room. You’ll be glad you came. This is a great time to meet up with friend, find out how their match went, and discuss the activities of the day.

If you win a cartridge firearm:• You are responsible for transfer fees.• If you hold a val id Federal Firearms License, bring a signed copy and a photo ID to Diamond J’s Gunsmithing and we will transfer the prize to you. • If you are not a FFL, we will not transfer a firearm to you at END of TRAIL. We will record your name, alias, and SASS membership number as the winner/owner of the firearm. You will be required to locate and notify us of a FFL (dealer) convenient to your home address to whom we can ship your gun. We will require a signed copy of that dealer’s FFL prior to shipping. That dealer will complete all required transfer paperwork. You will be responsible for any costs associated with the transfer, but END of TRAIL will pay the shipping cost to your dealer.*Percussion firearms are not subject to the above procedures. END OfTRAIL’SNEW WADDIE PROGRAM

Many hands make light work, and END of TRAIL is blessed to have a hard working group of volunteers called Waddies. Waddies are a group of dedicated volunteers who, like their Old West namesakes, do the things that help make the operation run smoothly. The fact is, END of TRAIL wouldn’t happen without the hard work of EOT Waddies.

The Old West definition of a Waddie was a temporary hired hand; paid a dollar a day, food, and a place to throw their bedroll. Our team of dedicated Waddies travel from all over the country to lend a hand wherever they are needed. These are the folks that make it all happen; from the friendly Waddie who greets you at the front gate when you arrive to those

stocking water for our valued guests. Waddies are the first ones up in the

morning and the last to bed at night, performing hundreds of necessary tasks before, during, and after END of TRAIL.

Waddie opportunities are available for all SASS members, and as our event continues to grow, so does our need for help. If you have an hour to donate, or a whole week- END of TRAIL needs you! A MOUNTED SHOOTING WELCOME TO END Of TRAIL!

We thank all Mounted Shooters for joining us at END of TRAIL for the SASS Mounted Shooting World Championship! The Buffalo Range Riders Mounted Group is proud to once again host this prestigious event. What can be more cowboy than a man (or woman!), his horse, and a six-gun? Six action-packed stages Friday and Saturday are sure to entertain as the partnership between horse and rider are put to the test and both are pressed to perform at their peak!

The Buffalo Range Riders Mounted group also invites all Action Shooters, their families, and friends to mosey down to the mounted arena and enjoy the shoot-out, cheer for their favorite rider, and catch the “old-west-style” entertainment provided by Bad Dog and Mrs. Bad Dog between stages. On Saturday, about 1:30PM, you can shoot it out with the mounted folks in our Fast Draw Competition ... but you’ll have to do it our way. That doesn’t mean mounted on a racing horse—we’ll all be on foot, but you will have to draw, cock, aim, and shoot a .45 pistol using one hand only. Come try it; it’s fun! And, then stay to watch the mounted Extreme Team Competition ... it’s always good for a laugh!
