The World Around Us• At Key Stages 1 and 2, The World Around Us is presented as four

inter-related strands that connect learning across geography, history and science and technology.

• When planning topics, teachers should ensure that opportunities are provided for children to

• develop their skills in Communication, Using Mathematics, Using ICT and their Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities. At all stages children should be encouraged to become active participants in the learning process.

• Teachers should involve children in the choice of topics that interest them and, where possible, learning should be connected to current events in the world around them.

• Teachers should ensure that, where appropriate, aspects of the other Areas of Learning should be integrated.
