Three Local Authors Come to Coolidge (continued)

wrote her first novel about hometown talent in

the early 1900’s.

Vicki is currently teaching online 10th grade English classes and is an Adjunct English In-structor at Central Arizona College. She is also the family historian and has written sev-eral articles for Genealogy Today. Vicki and her husband, Albert, reside in Coolidge, Ari-zona, as members of the United Methodist Church for over 30 years and have five grown children. Meet Tara Majuta from Chandler.

Tara is the author of The Clau-dia Broadstad Mysteries. Her books tend to target adults in that 21-30 range.

Tara loves learning new things. She’s learned quite a bit about the book business. Her pas-sion is taking what she’s learned about writ-ing and entrepreneurship to show others how to track their sales and create a strategy to fulfill their goals. A couple other facts about Tara is that for every book she sells, $1 is donated to Savethewhales.org, and also, she is married to an artist named Carlo who designed the cover of her first novel, The Fascinating Files of Claudia Broadstad. If you would like to attend this free program and hear these authors speak about their background in writing, their books, as well as their advice on how you can be a successful writer, we encourage registration.

What Dreams Are Still in Your Box? The theme for this year’s Teen Read Week (on the next page) is “Turn Your Dreams Into

a Reality.” While Teen Read Week applies to teens, this year’s concept is one that really

applies to all of us, no matter the age.

My mother recently shared this article with me. Tearing it out of the newspaper almost

30 years ago, she was inspired by the powerful words of Erma Bombeck. My mother, an

inspiration herself, has had this pinned to her bulletin board since the day she first read

it. These words of encouragement reinforced the strength she always had to go after her

dreams, to go back to school so she could do the work she was passionate about. She faced

many obstacles on the way, but she made it!

You never know the power words can have or what might prompt you to open your box of

dreams and take that first step towards making it your reality. I urge you to read this ar-

ticle. More importantly, I challenge you to be brave with your life. You never know what

will happen if you take the leap, but going for it is what life is really all about.

Earth Star—Young Adult Fiction By Janet Edwards

Eighteen-year-old Jarra has a lot to prove. After being awarded one of the military's highest honors for her role in a daring rescue attempt, she finds herself--and her Ape status--in the spotlight. Jarra is one of the unlucky few born with an immune system that cannot survive on other planets. Derided as an "ape"--a "throwback"--by the rest of the universe, she is on a mission to prove that Earth Girls are just as good as anyone else. Except now the planet she loves is under threat by what could be humanity's first

ever alien contact. Jarra's bravery--and specialist knowledge--will once again be at the center of the maelstrom, but will the rest of the universe consider Earth worth fighting for? ~from pub-lisher

Found Things - Juvenile Fiction By Marilyn Hilton

Experience the wonder of the river in this haunting debut novel, where family is lost, friends are found, and hope runs in the current. One morning, River Rose Byrne wakes up talking like nobody else, and she doesn't know why. Maybe it's because her beloved older brother, Theron, has abruptly vanished. Maybe it's because that bully Daniel Bunch won't leave her alone. Or maybe it has everything to do with the eerily familiar house that her mind explores when she's asleep, and the mysterious woman who lives

there. River has to puzzle through these mysteries on her own until she makes a strange new friend named Meadow Lark. But when she brings Meadow Lark home and her mother reacts in a way that takes River by surprise, River is more lost than before. ~ from publisher
