Introduction in your face!

We natural gas, and you should too! After this presentation, you’ll agree! You will learn more about natural gas than you ever wanted to! We’ve always wanted to be assigned to write a PowerPoint about natural gas in Mrs. Tuomi’s 5th grade classroom since Preschool, and now our dream has come true! Enjoy the Show!!!!!!!

(P.S. if a word is underlined, it means that it is an index word!)

All ‘bout it

Natural Gas is made of 95% methane (which is a gas), 4% ethane and nitrogen, and 1% carbon dioxide (CO2) and propane. It is made by the natural transformation of organic materials over millions of years (that’s a long time).

These materials mix and crumble inside layers of sand or silt. Over time, and with the result of pressure and heat, the remainder in these unclear layers turn into hydrocarbons like oil (John, Alexis, and Maria’s report) and natural gas.

The things you might not know are right here…

Natural gas is lighter than air because it rises and dissipates quickly in fresh air. It has no smell, no color, and no taste. The reason it sometimes smells, is because they ADD smell to it because if there is a gas leak, they will know where to locate it.

Natural gas has to reach a particular concentration of 5%-15% in the air for it to catch on fire. If the percentage is higher or lower, it will not catch on fire. Natural gas cannot mix with or contaminate water. Natural gas is a very safe energy.

Uses For Natural

Gas

The Use of Natural GasNatural gas is very efficient for heating space and

water. It’s flame can reach 3,560 degrees in Fahrenheit (1,960 Celsius). If the power goes out, natural gas underground (natural gas network) continues to supply water and heating for homes. Using gas to produce electricity is thought of because of its environmentally-friendly qualities. It is the cleanest hydrocarbon. It is the second most important source for producing electricity.

A natural gas engine produces 25% less CO2 than a gasoline engine. People want to use a natural gas engine because once again, people enjoy being nice to our planet (environment-friendly). 9 million vehicles around the world run on natural gas.

In the World . . .

The world that we live in today . . .(A.K.A. Earth)

In 2008, all known natural gas preserves totaled 185 trillion m3. That is equal, in terms of volume, to almost twice the amount of water in all the bodies of water in the world. Canada has enough natural gas to meet the countries needs for the next 80 years. The countries with the most preserves are Russia (23%), Iran (16%) and Quatar (14%).

Natural gas production is the highest in Europe, Eurasia, and the Americas. A quarter of all the energy consumed in the world comes from natural gas. The biggest consumers are in the united states (22%), the European union (16%), and Russia (15%). Canada scores for 3% of the worlds consumption of natural gas.

Pros

Pros: • It is a very clean energy resource• It doesn’t have a bad smell• It does not use a lot of CO2• Environmental-friendly• Efficient for heating space/water• Has no taste

Cons:

Page 10: The Wonders of NATURAL GAS Created by: Ellie and Kate.

Cons

• It won’t last foreverNatural gas is probably about 99.99%

good, so there is nothing else that we know about it that is bad.

• E “So Kate, what have you learned about natural gas?”

• K “Well, I learned that Natural gas doesn’t actually have any smell, and that they add smell so they can locate it if there is a leak. What did you learn, Ellie?”

• E “ I learned that natural gas is very clean, and has a lot of environmentally friendly qualities. Thank you for talking with me Kate.”

• K “Thank you too, Ellie!”
