Farewell Mrs Brewer
This week we farewell another one of our teachers.
This Friday will be Mrs Brewer’s last day as a
permanent teacher before she officially retires from a
long career in Public Education. We take this
opportunity to thank her for her dedication and
commitment to the students at Wollondilly Public
School over the years. We hope she finds lots of
enjoyable things to do in her spare time, away from
the classroom.
Mrs Zoe Vaughan will replace Mrs Brewer at the
beginning of next term.
Rave Reviews for Dancers
Congratulations to our dance troupe who participated
in the Illawarra South East Regional Dance Festival
on 13th, 14th & 16th June at the Illawarra Performing
Arts Centre in Wollongong. The girls did themselves,
their families, our school and our district proud. They
were fabulous ambassadors for Wollondilly Public
School and the audiences were very impressed and
appreciative of their performances.
A huge thank you once again, to Ms Wright, Mrs
Brown and the girls’ families for their commitment and
support of this wonderful opportunity for our students.
The troupe will get to perform again at the GCOPS
Colossal Concert Band
Last Thursday students in years 3 – 6 were fortunate
to have the combined concert band from Canberra
Girls and Canberra Boys Grammar Schools, visit
Wollondilly P.S. for an interactive performance.
The band members were impressed with the
knowledge, interest level and the behaviour of our
students. Our students were astounded at the talent
of the Year 8 – 11 band members. It was a valuable
learning experience for everyone involved.
Exciting excursions
Early stage 1 students are having fun this week
visiting Goulburn Public School to compare and
contrast the two schools. Stage 1 students travelled
to Canberra and visited the National Museum to
observe what things were like in the “Olden days “.
Thank you to the teachers for organising these extra
- curricular activities, to enhance the learning
outcomes for our students. It is yet another example
of the dedication of the staff at Wollondilly P.S.
Terrific tabloid Sports
Students in Years 3- 6 will participate in a tabloid
sports afternoon from 12 – 3pm on Thursday this
week. Our students are participating in the Premier’s
Sporting Challenge and they undertake many
activities in order to complete the challenge. Thank
you to the teachers for keeping our kids active and
interested in having healthy lifestyles. Kaitlyn Thompson

Yoga
Lee Lee is looking forward to commencing yoga at
Wollondilly in Term 3. The children always look forward to
Lee Lee’s yoga classes and enjoy the benefits of this form
of exercise and relaxation. Yoga will be held in our school
hall on Thursdays and Fridays, from Weeks 1-3 and 5-8
during Term 3. Payment for yoga is included in the Term 3

Friendly Advice from the Rural Fire Service
Members of the local Rural Fire Service have spent
time this week at Wollondilly P.S. talking to students
and teachers about fire safety at school and
especially at home. This could well be life-saving
advice, as we approach school holidays and various
types of heaters are in use, during the cold weather.
It was interesting to note that one of the main causes
of house fires is from power boards. A power board
should be hanging up if possible, to prevent dust
collecting in the outlets.
Our students are constantly being shown how to be
safe, respectful and responsible – no matter where
they are !

NAIDOC WEEK CELEBRATIONS
AT WOLLONDILLY PUBLIC SCHOOL
NAIDOC Week is an important celebration in Australia as
it gives students an awareness of Australia’s history and
the important role of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
cultures, which are among the most ancient earth.
Children from Kindergarten to Year 6 celebrated last
week by forming an Aboriginal flag with their bodies.
Other activities included a colouring, writing and poetry
competition. Students also participated in making a giant
Rainbow Serpent.

NAIDOC Week
Long ago, in times of old, this land was as pure as
gold.
Run by the natives, with no smoke or fumes, they sat
round the fire and played their ancient tunes.
They had everything, yet had nothing to lose, how
they did it, we have no clues.
They hunted their food, they made their own
weapons, they praised the Gods that lived in the
heavens.
Aboriginals, we call them, but we should call them
friends, for they hold onto Australia until their life
ends.
They survived on nothing but the wide open range,
here’s hoping we can, one day, be the same.

Hats Off to the Parents of our Dancers
We would like to thank the parents of our primary dance group for their dedication. They were like our very own “roadies ” last week at the Illawarra and South East Schools Dance Festival. A devoted group of mums and dads transported the dancers to and from the IPAC Theatre for the technical rehearsal, evening performances and a matinee performance. As well they helped each other out so that other parents could watch one of the shows.
We do appreciate your support and hope that you have as many happy memories as we have to cherish.
Congratulations to the dancers too. There were sooooo many complements from the festival committee and past members of the dance group.
The dance group will be performing again next term at the GCOPS concert.

PBS WHOLE SCHOOL REWARD
CONGRATULATIONS to ALL Wollondilly students!
After working so hard to collect Purple STARRS cards
we have finally reached our whole school reward. It
has taken us 2 terms to do it so we are now going to
be rewarded by having a whole school movie
afternoon on Friday at 2pm in the hall. We will be
watching last year’s concert DVD. Well done!
Purple STARRS cards (Striving To Act Respectful,
Responsible, Safe) are used in any setting outside the
classroom. Teachers issue the STARRS cards to any
students who are seen being Safe, Respectful and
Responsible in the playground, during K-6 assemblies
or around the school. Each class has a target they are
striving towards so they can receive a whole class
reward and ultimately be a part of a whole school
reward. From the PBS team
