What is your typical weekend? My typical weekend is hanging out with my girlfriends or do-ing ‘me time’. I love to do things I don’t usually get to do in the week, like getting pampered, eating out or just socialising.  Do you have a weekend must see/do/eat?My must eat is definitely sushi with some friends.

What has been your best weekend ever?I’m proud to say I’ve had tonnes of great weekends. But one par-ticular weekend that stands out would have to be Ocean Style weekend 2011 in Montego Bay. Everything about it was right. I often think back and chuckle, which makes it one of my best weekends ever!

DRINK OF CHOICE:

Johnny Walker and tonic water

Who are your weekends spent with?My weekends are usually spent with my girlfriends, as most of my family is back in Trinidad. The girls are usually up for doing something fun and crazy and I tag along. What would be your ideal weekend? My ideal weekend would involve lots of sleep, as boring as that sounds, but I also really enjoy getting out of town. Nothing like lying on the beach with a good book and some cocktails!  What spot/event/activity would you recommend for any given weekend?Seeing that I love to get out of town, I’d say a good weekend spot would be John Crow’s Tavern in Ocho Rios and San San Beach in Portland. I spent a lot of time there. Definitely my kind of vibe. Your weekend drink is?My weekend drink without a doubt is Johnny Walker and tonic water. If not, I’ll settle for red wine or champagne.

aking a trip to St Elizabeth on a chill weekend can easily turn into a journey back in time, if you decide to take

the Appleton Rum Tour on their estate deep in the Cockpit Country. Protected by the lush and hilly surroundings, the sug-ar plantation and rum distillery provide a vivid backdrop for the informative story told by the lively guides like “Shuga”, who al-lowed us to take pictures and get involved in the rum crushing process dating back over 300 years.

While manual labour may not be your thing, the bar atten-dants were more than happy to provide us with complimen-tary rum concoctions at the start of the tour; a secret mixture of four rums sure to loosen up the nerves and turn the most unwilling observer into an enthusiastic participant. A stop at the distillery and warehouse is another sacrosanct moment for the devout rum drinker as you are overwhelmed by the reality that every drop of Appleton Rum passes through these walls before being shipped all over the planet as one of the world’s best spirits.

Lastly, for the self-proclaimed connoisseur like myself, who would never turn down an opportunity to ‘sample’ the house produce, the finale includes a taste of 12 rums, all delectable and distinct in body, colour and character. The moment’s rev-elry is enhanced by Shuga’s admission that we, the guest, will be pouring our own shots! Ending on such a high, the meander-ing journey out of the valley gives time to reflect on the fact that although I really can’t remember half of what I was told, I definitely recall having a great time with friends, and that makes it all worth it.
