FROM THE DEPUTY We are getting a new COLA!!

Well, not exactly. The Primary COLA is getting an upgrade! With the help of Hills Sports Group, we are installing a brand new sporting surface, netting, new futsal goals, lighting and line markings to give our old faithful COLA a huge facelift. It is envisaged that this will be the venue for many indoor sporting competitions, being run by Hills Sports Group after school and on the weekends, as well as providing a brand new court to run our structured play programs and train our kids for some upcoming gala days. This term the school with the help of several dedicated parents and the sport leaders have been running several structured games including modified soccer and skipping. With this new venue, these programs can be extended and supplemented by some in-school round robin competitions, focusing on the students not currently in PSSA competitions. The PD/H/PD committee will also be providing more sporting equipment for children to use at lunch. To further promote these programs the school will again be participating in the Premiers Sporting Challenge, which aims at getting kids more active, more often. Students will keep a tally of their physical activity each week and certificates will be handed out later in the year, rewarding the kids for participating in various levels of physical activity. So get active kids. There are plenty of opportunities to that will get you huffing and puffing! Stage 2 Camp Many thanks, to all the parents who replied to the Stage 2 Camp Expression of Interest. The vast majority of replies were supportive of the proposal and those families who declined the offer, offered some constructive advice. With all this information at hand, the school has decided to trial a Stage 2 camp in term 4 and reassess its viability upon the students’ return to school. Other venues are also being explored in an attempt to minimise the costs. Woolworths Incentive Program Woolworths promotion has now finished. Families are asked to submit their completed sticker cards this week, so they can be counted and submitted. Winnie Wants You to Wear Your Hat Winnie is watching! He will be making sure that kids will be wearing a school hat every time they are playing. Public Speaking Congratulations to Dillon De Silva who was the district level winner at the Hill’s Multicultural Competition. Good luck Dillon at the regional finals.

SCHOOL NEWS WE’RE OFF TO RIO!

PSSA Football Socceroos March Past Not even the wet weather could dampen spirits as our PSSA

Football teams who helped cheer the Socceroos to victory last

Tuesday at Stadium Australia. Australia beat Iraq 1-0 with a

goal in the last ten minutes of the game – much to our collective

relief. Our PSSA players represented the school proudly as we

marched around the stadium and were a credit to Winston Hills

Public School.

SYDNEY WEST DANCE FESTIVAL CONGRATULATIONS During 2nd – 9th June it was the Sydney West Dance Festival at Evans Theatre, Penrith. The Sydney West Dance Festival is a showcase of dance talents from the whole of the Western Sydney Region, including primary and high schools from the Hills to the Mountains. Both Dance groups performed in the Matinee Show and Night Performances. The students’ behaviour was absolutely exceptional as they represented our school travelling to the venue and also whilst they waited to perform. The audiences were captivated by their items and were given many rave reviews on the night and well after the event. Miss Kazmeirski, Mrs Shelton, Ms Johnston and myself are very proud of all of the students in the dance group. Congratulations to all of the dancers on your achievement and we are sure being a part of the dance group and Festivals has been a great learning experience for all those involved! SUPPORT UNIT ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

Last Wednesday, a group of students from 2/6P, 3/6G and K/1S (and Ella Mac) participated in a combined athletics carnival at Sydney Olympic Park. There were 19 other schools in attendance and the day got off to a great start with our team coming second in the March Past. From then, things only got better with every member of the team placing in at least 1 event, most students coming home with a swag of ribbons on their chests. At the end of the day Winston Hills PS was again named the Junior Champions – a great team effort. I would like to congratulate all children not only for their outstanding performances on the track but also for their exemplary behaviour throughout the day. A huge thanks also goes to all the parents who came along to support the team. Also a special mention, to Mrs Bevitt, Mrs Doherty, Mrs Smith, Mrs Hassell and Mrs Lawless for all their help during the carnival. The team: Joshua Bevitt, Jessie Gonzalez, Andy Beck, Theresa Yammouni, Julia Hassell, Harry Dickinson, Dean Kenny, Marika Cama, Ella Garcia-Medved, Matthew Doherty, Grace Gilsenen, Elysse Lawless, Bella Perrugini, Eden Young, Jamie Smith, Jamie Saad and Ella MacSporran. School Canteen – Going to Tender for 2014 The Canteen Committee held a meeting with the principal,

Maxelle Matthews and Executive Members of the P&C to

discuss the running of the canteen from 2014 onwards.

We are constantly struggling to obtain enough volunteers to

efficiently provide this service, with most families now having

both parents working.

It was unanimously voted at the last P&C meeting held on

Tuesday 18th June to put the canteen out for tender.

The process of the paperwork and the legalities has now

begun and we are excited by the possibilities of who will be

successful in obtaining the tender & what they will have to

offer!

We want to again thank all of our volunteers as without them

this service would not have been able to run like is has done

for so many years. As the tender will not begin until 2014 we

still require all of your assistance until the end of this year.

We have unfortunately lost some more volunteers to the

workforce and we are again requesting for some additional

helpers to join two of our Wednesday crews.

Please contact us if you feel you could assist and also if you

have any questions regarding the tender.

Happy ordering! Jenny W, Janelle, Carly, Michelle & Jenny B Carly Kirk (0414) 427804, Jenny Bradfield (0412) 321447 or [email protected]
