On February 2010 the registration processesfor the III inter-American Camporee, Conque -ring the Giants began. On February 13, of thesame year, various activities of the differentclubs started including the initiation ceremo-ny. It is worth mentioning that the registrationis divided into four phases: “Early bird”, fromFebruary to June 2010; “Normal”, from Julyto November 2010; “Sleepyhead”, fromDecember 2010 to January 2011; and finally“Forgetful”, from February to March 2011.

In March 2010, the different clubs beganto raise funds. But not only Pathfinders par-ticipate in these activities. The parents mustknow what is happening. They have to parti-cipate of those activities with them. For thatpurpose, many meetings were organized toevaluate all the different projects.

On October 2010, we began to check theprices of different material that will be used inthe Camporee. The enthusiasm and effort ofeach Pathfinder was obvious. Then January2011 arrived and with it the eliminationrounds for both the track and field, and theswimming competition, but only the braveones dare to participate. During that monththe pathfinders that come from other coun-tries started the “required paperwork” so theycould be in this beauty Mexico City.

Mexico City grew from what is called todayits “first quarter”. The territory that the cityis in today was originally Tenochtitlan, capi-tal city of the Mexica and conquered by theSpaniards on August 13th, 1521. The citystarted growing from the main Mexicapolitical and religious center, known as theTemplo Mayor right at the center ofTenochtitlan. Now, centuries later, there wecan find the emblematic Zocalo, surround-ed by the seats of the Republican powersand the Metropolitan Cathedral. Duringtheir existence the buildings around theZocalo have changed much. There were

even green areas, statues and amarketplace, the «Parian», maincenter of commerce of NewSpain. The Zocalo is also themain city place for large meet-ings, whether they are Stateevents, national holiday cele-brations, concerts or photo-graphic exhibitions, protestsand social manifestations too.Even today there is an artificialbeach during the summer and asnow zone in winter. TheZocalo is the heart of the cityand each heartbeat echoesMexican history.

On February 2011, we began to reviewthe authorization letters of each Pathfinderparents.

That was exhausting! But today, afterall that work, after filling up the differentregistration forms, after the eliminationrounds for the events that will take placein this sport center of Mexico City, wehave to admit that it was worth it.Although there are only four events, hiking(with the participation of around 400clubs), swimming, track and field, and thebiblical contest (with the participation ofone representative of each Union), it willbe exciting to see each Pathfinder give hisbest. And of course, we couldn't miss theso anticipated specialties.

That is how the days went by with dif-ferent activities. And today, April 19, 2011,are here, in this great event, those whoalready started to “defeat their giants”,those who made a big effort to be next tothe bigger giant Conqueror, Jesus. It willbe five days full of mixed emotions, but itis good to remember that all the Pathfin-ders are united under one feeling: the loveof Christ.

Pastor Israel LeitoKNOWING YOUR LEADERS

PreSident oF the inter-AMeriCAn diViSion

What are the giants that

the Adventist youth must

overcome?“Distractions”, I believe this is thebiggest and most dangers giant forour young people today. Our youthmust be able to tell in which direc-tion they are heading and it's onlypossible if they know “the way andthe truth and the life”. If our youngpeople can overcome the tendencyto experiment and explore tempta-tion, they will have overcome themost dangerous giant of their lives.

Why is it important to

conquer those giants?Giants always seem to offer com-

fort. They are attractive, inspire, andoffer what apparently is not possibleto get anywhere or from anybodyelse. But the most peculiar elementof a giant is its height; a giant makespromises, but it can't deliver. Butwith Christ the possibilities areunlimited.

What is the armor to

defeat them? The advice we receive from heavenregarding this battle is: to be able todiscern between what is true andwhat is false; to depend on the jus-tice of Christ and to practice that jus-tice; to be willing to work for God; todepend on his faith; to trust that Godwill save us; to never doubt God'sgrace; to let the Scripture be thelight “lamp” that guide our path.

What tools can the

Pathfinders Clubs pro-

vides to conquer these

giants? The purposes of Pathfinders Clubsare to help develop the physical,

mental and spiritual part of ouryoung people. Thus, the PathfinderClub is one of the best placeswhere they can develop theseaspects under the influence of theHoly Spirit and the grace of Christ.

For you, who is the best

example of a giant con-

queror?Well, the more people I meet, thebetter I get to see how God canchange the life of human beings. AllBible characters had weaknesses, but they were great because of thegrace of God. The best “giant-killer”is the one that recognize that “thereis no limit for those who put a sideself and let the Holy Spirit work intheir heart and lives entirely devot-ed to God”.

FOOT

I don't know how many of you have asked the same

question when the banner of the club appeared in the

Camporee official page. The banner said: Come and

participate! This club was founded on February 2011. Its

purpose was to create a Pathfinders Club online, the

biggest one of the entire Inter-American Division. The

goal was to reach young people from different countries

of the IAD. That is how UM Your Club started.

Once you registered online (umtuclub.com), you had

access to all activities offer online, like contest on

Facebook about the best director, adviser and souvenir

from any other camporee. The rewards for the winners

were very appropriate for a Pathfinder: a backpack,

binoculars, a portable stove, a tent, etc. You could also

obtain five specialties online, validated for the IAD. An

example of a specialty that you could had obtain online

was “First Aid” or “Rules and Techniques

of Basketball” and then received the

badge at the Camporee.

Nevertheless, this Club will be tangible.

From April 20th to the 23rd, UM Your Club

will have activities for all of those who are

registered. The biggest live music band of

Pathfinders will play in the first service on

Sabbath. This band is composed of young

people that play a wind instrument. There

will also be a skateboard showdown, and

a speed skater show. We will have profes-

sionals demonstrating their skills, but best

of all, they will give classes to those inter-

ested. Hurry up, the space is limited!

What is

UM YourClub?

From time to time, you

will find groups of people

going around the Campo,

very contents, making mobile

events in which you can par-

ticipate. Events like water

balloons fights and more.

Besides, those who are re-

gister with the UM Your Club,

will have the right to a

Popsicle. They will be given

away at the different booths

located throughout Ciudad

Deportiva. As if that was not

enough, UM Your Club has

its own campsite where you

can obtain all the information

necessary about schedule for

all the events.

UM Your Club is spon-

sored by Montemorelos

University. Its only goal is to

take special care of the Inter-

American Division's Path -

finders and to help grow the

Adventist education.
