The first thing you need to do is to shut off the water supply of your
compression faucet. Doing so will prevent water from getting into the pipes and flooding your work area.
The shutoff valve is located just underneath the sink.

Get a rag or an old cloth and plug your
drain. Do this to avoid dropping the small
faucet parts into the sink hole.

Remove the faucet’s handle by first detaching the cap that covers the
screw. It supposedly reads “hot” or “cold”.
Unscrew this using your screwdriver and then remove the handle.

Once you’ve removed the handle, remove the
faucet nut using your wrench. You should see the faucet stem sitting
right on top of the O-ring and the washer.

In most cases, it’s the washer that gets worn
out, therefore causing the leak. If it’s the handle that
is leaky, the O-ring may be the culprit. So based
on your observation, where does the leak
come from?

Pull out the faucet stem to expose the O-ring and the washer. If the handle leaks, replace the O-ring.

If the handle is not the source of the leak, you should replace the seat
washer. It’s secured in its place with the help of a
screw. Remove it using your screwdriver.

Get the new washer and coat it with plumber’s
grease for lubrication. Put it in place followed by the O-ring and the faucet stem.
Install the nut and the handle to re-assemble your
compression faucet.
