Judging:Judging:
Brothers, do not speak against one another He that speaks against a brother and
judges his brother, speaks against Torah and judges Torah.
And if you judge Torah, you are not a DOER of Torah but a JUDGE. (James 4:11)
*Yeshua is the Lawgiver and the Judge! Who are you to judge one another!
(James 4: 12)
The TORAH/YESHUA is the judge, not us! Got our roles mixed up!
Isaiah 33:22: For Yahweh is our Judge,Yahweh is our Lawgiver,
Yahweh is our King; He will save us);

dispute with someone, go to court. Perhaps you are the plaintiff, other person is
defendant…when we judge our brother, it would be like you approaching the
judge’s bench, and pushing judge out of his seat, and now you occupy his seat, so
that you can rule on your own case!
Have you been wronged? Bring it before the Father in prayer, pray for the other,
“Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.” FORGIVE the
wrongdoing, the sin, put the person and the situation into the hands of Abba.
Our role: is to FORGIVE us our sins as we forgive those who have sinned against
us….Pray for Abba’s mercy on the other who has wronged you, allow Abba to be the
judge. We CANNOT and must not be the judge…if we have, we need to REPENT of
that.
Yeshua is the Lawgiver and the judge!
Dearly beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is
written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says Yahweh. Romans 12:19

What does pride look like? When we get our feelings hurt. When we have to be
“right”….when we have to prove our point, when we have to win at all costs….
We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. 1 Cor 8:1
Read the pride person v/s broken person handout….
What does humility look like?
A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
Proverbs 29:23
When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.

How does it relate back to/connect with the Torah Portion? How does it relate back to/connect with the Torah Portion?
Brit connections back to the Torah portion:
Lets look at the cause of contention, strife and quarreling that is spoken of from
James 4: 1-3 and how it connects back to a tribal feud, kingdom split that almost
happened:
James 4: 1-3: Where do fightings and strivings come from among you? Do they not
come from your lusts that battle in your members? You desire, and do not have. You
murder and are jealous, and are unable to obtain. You strive and fight, and you do
not possess, because you do not ask. You ask, and do not receive, because you ask
evilly in order to spend it on your lusts.

Brit connections to this week’s torah portion: Kingdom split that almost happened but was avoided…..for now…was avoided…..for now…There was a smoldering “offense” between Reuben and rest of the tribes. Their tribal lands were on the EAST side of the Jordan river. Would be easy for them to lay back, settle down, not cross over the river and help their brothers fight their battles so they have their inheritance land.
Let’s take a closer look. Why does this dispute arise?
History of Reuben: He defiled his father’s bed and laid with his father’s concubine, Bilhah: See Gen 35:22And it happened, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine; and Israel heard about it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve: Gen 35:22
When his father, Jacob was speaking out blessings over each of the 12 sons, this is what he said about Reuben:Gen 49:3-4: Reuben, you are my firstborn, My might and the beginning of my strength, The excellency of dignity and the excellency of power.Unstable as water, you shall not excel, Because you went up to your father’s bed; Then you defiled it— He went up to my couch.
So now there is a tribal “quarrel” or discord.Smoldering offense…. At first, Reuben and Gad say, “If we have found favor in your eyes, let this land be given to your servants as a possession, and do not let us pass over the Jordan.” Numbers 32:5
10
Are your brothers to go into the battle while you yourselves SIT HERE? Now why do Are your brothers to go into the battle while you yourselves SIT HERE? Now why do
you discourage the heart of the children of Israel from passing over into the land
which Yahweh has given them?” Numbers 32:7
Selfish…they have their own tribal land inheritance, and now they want to park and
settle down. Not thinking about the WHOLE NATION, all 12 Tribes, just thinking
about themselves. Just thinking with what’s good for “Reuben and Gad” mindset
instead of a mindset of what’s good for the WHOLE NATION,
all 12 tribes.
A big discussion ensues. In the end, Reuben and Gad agree to cross the river and go
with their brothers and stay in unity to fight their battles so they also will have their
tribal lands. An offense has been smoldering for a long time. Sounds like the other
tribes did not TRUST Reuben and Gad to cross the river and help them. Maybe they
had been SHUNNED and weren’t even on speaking terms. At the very least, the
relationship was strained….Finally, Reuben and Gad agree to send their fighting men
over with their brothers to cross the Jordan and help their brothers take their
inheritance tribal lands.

Mercy: eleos: compassion, Webster dictionary definition: kind or forgiving treatment of someone who could be treated harshly; kindness or help given to treatment of someone who could be treated harshly; kindness or help given to people who are in a very bad or desperate situationJustice: krisis: a decision (for or against) to ACT JUSTLY , tribunal, divine justice, to ACT JUSTLYFaithfulness; having or showing true and constant support or loyalty, deserving trust; keeping your promises or doing what you are supposed to do.
From this verse we can conclude the following: the scribes and Pharisees were NOT walking in the weightier matters: they were unjust in their dealings with others, they were oppressive, and corrupt. They were unmerciful, harsh and unloving. Does that sound like some of the behaviors we see today in the Hebrew roots community?
That should give us pause….we have some repenting to do folks. We need to become MORE LOVING, MORE MERCIFUL, MORE GRACIOUS. We need to love as Yeshua loved. If we are going to be about the Father’s business and be gathering the lost sheep of Israel, what draws the sheep in? “See how they LOVE one another…” When they see us love one another, treat each other with kindness, with gentleness, with grace, with patience and longsuffering…..When they see the sweet fruit of the spirit evident and flowing in our lives. When they can smell the perfume and sweet fragrance of Yeshua in our lives.

And yet I show you a more excellent way.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become
sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge,
and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am
nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to
be burned,fn but have not love, it profits me nothing. Love suffers long and is kind; love
does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does
not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in
the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love
never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues,
they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and
we prophesy in part.
But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when
I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face
to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. And now abide
faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. 1 Cor. 13

What causes the lost sheep of Israel to be gathered…what attracts them? When What causes the lost sheep of Israel to be gathered…what attracts them? When
they see us LOVING ONE ANOTHER!
“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” John 15:12
“Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the
torah.” Romans 13:8
“Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of
the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart”,
1 Peter 1:22
“By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John
13:35
What causes the lost sheep of Israel to be scattered? When they see division,
strife, quarreling….
When we are harsh, unloving, unmerciful, when we JUDGE one another, when we
quarrel, we are in strife and division.
When we make it more important to be RIGHT than to LOVE one another. When we
allow an OFFENSE to be more important the preserving and protecting the
RELATIONSHIP. When we let a BITTER ROOT defile many.

How can we walk in the “weightier matters”? How can we walk in the “weightier matters”?
When we are faced with a decision or action that we are about to take, we can run
it through the “fruit of the spirit” grid:
Is it the loving thing to do/say?
Is it the kind thing to do or say?
Is it the patient/longsuffering thing to do/say?
It is the gentle thing to do/say?
If NOT, if our action or word or decision brings about strife, discord, division, hurt or
harm , then we ought to REFRAIN from that action, that decision, or those words.
