SPECIAL MUSICAL WEEKEND

Advent is pleased and excited to bring

renowned organist and worship leader Mark

Miller to our church on February 1-3, 2019. All

events are open to the church and

community. The following events are planned:

· Friday, Feb. 1, 6:00pm: Dinner in the

Knoedler Center. 7:00pm: Mark will lead a

special service of music/prayer/Communion

in the sanctuary. Childcare will be available.

· Sunday, Feb. 3, Mark will assist with music in

the 9:00am and 11:00am worship services.

Mark will then present an organ recital at

3:00pm. This free concert "From Bach to

Ragtime!" will feature a smorgasbord of

musical styles including Bach, Durufle, Walton,

ragtime king Scott Joplin, and an original

composition by Mark himself, "Variations on

Engleberg."

More than 29 years ago,

the Souper Bowl of Caring

began with a simple goal

from a single youth group;

to be mindful of those

without a bowl of soup to

eat. Since that day, more than $143 million

and food donations have been raised for

local charities. Advent will be participating

this year and collecting items and/or money

for our food pantry. On the weekend of

February 2/3 we will be collecting items

such as canned goods, other non-

perishable food items, and monetary

donations. Checks are to be made out to

Advent and in the memo line please put

food pantry. Join us as we tackle hunger

together.

FOOD PANTRY

This week, Advent's Food Pantry served 25

families consisting of 79 individuals. We

distributed 34 bags of food and saw 2 new

families. Current needs: cereal and canned

beans

THE QUILTING CHICKS meet in the Melbourne

Beach fellowship hall at 8:00AM Mondays for

coffee and quilting. We need more clean,

used sheets to continue our work in making

quilts for missions around the world. They

don’t have to be in perfect shape. Just

clean.

RUTH CIRCLE WOMAN'S BOOK STUDY GROUP

The first meeting of our Ruth Circle Woman's

Book Study Group will be Thursday January

24 at 1:00 at the Melbourne Beach Campus

in the conference room. Jane Eyre by

Charlotte Bronte will be our book for January.

We open with prayer and concerns of those

attending. Georgia Van Hoesen will facilitate

our meetings.

WELCA

The Advent Lutheran Church Women's group

meets the first Monday of each month in the

church conference room, Suntree campus,

at 10:00 am. Community and church service

is the goal of this group. Women's bible study

meets the first Monday of each month at

11:00 am in the church conference room.

SUNTREE SINGLES

The Suntree Singles is a support group for

senior women who have lost their spouse

due to death or divorce. Each month they

gather at a local restaurant to socialize and

support those that are grieving. They meet

the second Wednesday of each month at

noon. If you are interested in joining this

group contact Eric in the church office. Your

name will be forwarded to the monthly

hostess.
