1. Sony and Tepco bring IoT to homes

Sony Mobile Communications Inc. and Tepco Energy Partner Inc. aim to enable customers to control power usage efficiently and remotely as well as to check on the well-being of elderly people. Such services could be launched as early as next year.

“We’d like to boost sales by providing new values rather than focusing solely on selling electricity,” a Tepco official said.

Sony could provide its data communication technology, enabling customers to monitor and control the status and power consumption of home appliances such as air conditioners and lighting equipment via their smartphones, including when they are away from home.

Sony is among Japanese companies that are increasingly putting a focus on the internet of things.

IoT Olympic Service Providers

There will be a focus on improving the athletes’ and fans’ experience by connecting the Olympic things that matter (Olympic devices, athlete clothing, wearables, smart stadiums and smart cities).

The first cyber athlete

Technology companies, military and scientists have been working for many years on secretive human augmentation projects that enhance human productivity or capability, or that somehow add to the human body.

4. India’s big contribution to IoT outsourced market

India is seen as a prominent outsourcing destination for internet of things related services. The country accounts for over 40 percent of the global outsourced market.

The study notes that total global spending on IoT stands at $120 billion in 2016, while the market is expected to grow by 16 percent to $253 billion by 2021. The study rates IoT market spending across various geographies, aiming to help entrepreneurs make more informed decisions in choosing business partners.

A geography wise analysis reveals that North America leads global spending in IoT by contributing 40 percent followed by Asia and Europe.
