Student Activities

The Student Executive Council met to discuss a

project they are working on completing this

summer. They are creating a Powerpoint for

students in need of tips and ideas to prepare for

finals. Their theme is “Begin with the End

in Mind.”

Phi Theta Kappa met to continue planning

their college project and upcoming elections.

Standout student athlete Christopher Spratling,

Jr. attends Berea College in Kentucky on an

athletic scholarship.

Experiential Applied Research for

WCCCD Students in STEM at U of M

“I arrived at the University of Michigan for the summer

research program on May 29, 2018. I will be working in the

Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience Institute over the

summer. It has really been an awesome and wonderful

experience so far.”

WCCCD is pleased to offer our newest articulation agreement with the Downriver Career and Technical

Consortium (DCTC). Articulation agreements between WCCCD and local agencies help students

complete their educational pursuits in a timely and cost efficient manner.

WCCCD’s Dental Hygiene Program was chosen to be a tour site for one of our partners, Oral Health

2020 Grassroots Lead Organization. Program Managers, Katinka Hahuta and Al Yee from Dentaquest

Foundation visited the dental facility and toured the simulation lab.

No Bully Zone 5.0 Workshop

Students from local school districts were provided an

interactive learning experience about the impact of bullying

individuals in school and the community. I donated the book

“How Papa and Jason Chased Away the Bullies” to participants

in this very important initiative.

The School of Continuing Education Wayne County Business Resource Network

WCCCD hosted a planning session with the Wayne County Economic Development Corporation and

several business and education partners in preparation for the 3rd Wayne County Business Resource

Network Roundtable Event, expected to take place at the Downriver Campus in October 2018.

Finance

WCCCD has been in partnership with Bank Mobile since January, 2015 (formerly known as

Higher One) to provide secure, fast and efficient delivery of financial aid funds to our students.

Nearly 15,000 students have chosen to open a Bank Mobile debit card account. The Division of

Administration and Finance has researched and done its’ due diligence to ensure students

receive quality customer service. In comparison with other popular banking institutions, Bank

Mobile is less expensive and the best solution for our students.

Sandy Thompson participated in City of Taylor

Farmer’s Market to promote Taylor School District’s

greenhouse project in which she volunteers her time

comply with the Family Educational Rights and

Privacy Act (FERPA) in the digital age.

American Jewish Heritage Month.

Pastor Ian Reed Twiss discussed

Trinity Sunday and how the doctrine

was shared by different Christian

denominations. Unbreen Amir,

Romana Chowdhury and Dib Saab

talked about the three phases in the

Islamic faith tradition of Ramadan.

Bruce Ewen also shared insights from

the book “Blink” by Malcolm Gladwell.

The Community College 201 leadership class met to discuss results of completed continuing education

projects. They also discussed current issues in higher education impacting community colleges.

Mawine Diggs and her team met with Don Philips, Empowerment Zone Coalition Project Director to

discuss strategies for creating a drug-free zone in the community.

Assisting our Students with Job Interviewing

Mock interviews help students reduce their anxiety about interviewing by training them for the typical

questions. It also prepares job seekers for behavioral-based questions encountered during an interview.

Faculty and senior members of the District meet with students providing opportunities for them to be

mentored and prepare for real-word experiences.
