    This Wooden OBring the works of Shakespeare and other authors to life in your classroom with This Wooden O,The Warehouse Theatres mos

    popular educational outreach program is led by our experienced teaching artists teams, this programs unique approach addresses

    Common Core State Standards and has been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts. This Wooden O offers a

    kinesthetic approach to encountering literature. Students participated in hands-on, customized activities learning the actor o

    theatrical designers approach to close-reading, analysis, and interpretation of texts. Students also hone skills in group process

    Arts Integrated Residencies for Students and Professional Development for Teachers Bring new life to nearly any subject with customized workshops taught by our professional teaching artists who bring a host of theatre

    experience and have undergone extensive training in creating arts -integrated residencies. Many of our staff also have extensive

    experience in teacher training in arts integration We d love to work with the faculty at your school or district!

    Healthy Living Theatre ProgramsPerfect for guidance and career cluster curricula or other youth -oriented programs, our improv and applied theatre-based workshops

    allow students to use acting techniques to explore and investigate challenging personal choices while rehearsing their own

    solutions. These workshops also help build leadership skills and empower youth to make healthier lifestyle choices.

    Gives the audience, director, designers,and actors a chance to dialogue directly in

    The Warehouse Theatres This Wooden ONow in its eleventh year, The Warehouse Theatres This Wooden O is a dynamic outreach program offered

    throughout the school year that brings expert teaching artists into your

    classroom to break open the mysteries of Shakespeare and other

    literary genres in a way that is fun and accessible to students of any

    age group.

    Frequently Asked Questions About This Wooden O

    How does the This Wooden O work?This Wooden O is a residency program that can visit your school for 1 -3 days. We

    send a hand-picked team of our expert teaching artists to address your classes

    specific curricular goals. We can tailor our workshops to incorporate any text or

    texts you are working on, or provide in-depth information about a key concept your

    students are trying to master. Perhaps most importantlyits fun! Students learn by

    doing, and applying higher level thinking with low pressure group & individual

    activities. The Wooden Os active exercises help your students experience the joys

    of using the hidden clues and the actors toolbox to understand and appreciate the

    Bard and other classical texts.

    What grade levels and subjects does This Wooden O address?Our primary audience is middle to high school students in English and Theatre classes, although we have worked with after

    school programs and in History classrooms as well. We also offer Intro to Shakespeare workshops for students as young as 3rd

    grade! Youll also be happy to know that This Wooden O is designed to align with Common Core State Standards in English

    Language Arts and state Theatre Curricular Standards.

    Who are your teaching artists?The Warehouse Theatre boasts a faculty of teaching artists who have considerable experience in bringing vital theatrical arts and

    arts-integration to the classroom. Several faculty, including Anne Tromsness, our Director of Education, have completed Kennedy

    Center Arts-Integration training through the Peace Center, and many have completed Metropolitan Arts Council Smart Arts

    training. Collectively, our faculty have conducted residencies/taught with: the South Carolina Governors School for the Arts andHumanities, SC Childrens Theatre, over 50 area public and private k-12 schools, Lunch Box Theatre Company, Furman

    University, The Distracted Globe Theatre Company, the Peace Center for the Performing Arts, Greenville Technical College,

    Clemson University, and South Carolina Shakespeare Company.The Warehouse Theatre is also on the Approved Artist Roster

    for the SC Arts Commission.
