    1 Overview The VoIP gateway is utilizing the VoIP technology that provides varies application for all kind of

    legacy PBX. With only one IP connection, the PBX can have multiple access with any

    heterogeneous PBX.

    1.1 Features 12 Inch Models (4 FXS and 8 FXS ports)

    n Two 10/100T Ethernet LAN connection that provide QoS capability to improve the voice

    quality and stackable scalability.

    n 4/8 FXS interface that with hunting function that serve as analog trunk for PBX.

    n Console port, which support Command Line Interface for gateway management.

    n Flash ROM that provide software upgrade capability from Console Interface or from

    remote TFTP server.

    n Phone Set configuration interface that is able to do the basic configuration with analog

    phone set.

    There are two models for desktop type VoIP gateway. One is two-ports and the other is

    four-ports.

    n Two 10/100T Ethernet LAN connection that provide QoS capability to improve the voice

    quality and stackable scalability.

    n One FXS with one FXO model and two FXS with two FXO models to fit the application for

    Small and Medium Business or as Terminal Adapter for Telecommuter applications.

    n RJ-45 Console port, which support Command Line Interface for gateway management.

    1.2 Panel Outlooks The VoIP Gateway series have three main streams, one is 12-inch wide series,

    19-inch wide series and the other is 7-inch size desktop model. 12 inch wide series

    have fixed port number and FXS interfaces only, the 19-inch wide series are

    modularized design and 7-inch size desktop models are designed for small port

    density or portable usage.

    1.2.1 Front Panels On the front panels of VoIP gateway, there are two Ethernet Ports, RS-232 Console

    ports and status LEDs. If Call Detail Record is provided, it has extra CDR (Call Detail

    Record) port.

    On the front panel of 12-inch and 19-inch models, the markings of port numbers are

    associated with port number 1 to 4 and group number. This is a logical representation

    that design for management interface like Web management interface, Command

    Line Interface. In those user interfaces the first port will be "1/1" means the port 1 of

    group 1, "1/4" means the fourth port of the device and "4/4" means the last port. For

    desktop models, the port numbers do not need to specify the group number, just 1 for

    port one, 2 for port two and so on.

    1.2.2 Rear Panels All the voice interfaces connectors are located at the rear panel for 12-inch and

    desktop 7-inch models. And also the DC power-in jack is located on the rear panel

    too.

    There is a press button at the rear panel for all VoIP gateways. It is for special

    maintenance purpose does not press it in normal usage.

    1.3 LAN Interfaces The two Ethernet Ports on PBX voice gateway have different priorities. The "To WAN"

    port has higher priority than the "To LAN" port. This is going to provide the incoming

    voice stream from WAN port can be received prior the data on the local area network.

    Both "To WAN" and "To LAN" Ethernet ports are 10/100Mbps, Half/Full-duplex

    auto-negotiable. Users do not need to configure the speed or mode for Ethernet

    connection.

    n To connect to the router on the WAN port side, user can use Straight-Through

    RJ-45 cable to connect the MDI-X on the PBX voice gateway with the MDI port

    on the router.

    n To connect the "To LAN" port the Hub or Switching Hub on local area network,

    user can use Straight-Through RJ-45 cable connect to the MDI-II (Up-link) port

    on Hub or Switching Hub.

    Since Ethernet is under CSMA/CD mechanism, to provide the QoS for voice packet

    over Ethernet interface, it is need to place the voice gateway as near to the router as

    possible. With internal hardware QoS facility, the voice packets will have higher

    priority than data from local area network.

    Base on the same principal to have voice gateway as close to the router as possible in

    network connections, the voice packets will still have higher priority than data from

    local area network.

    1.4 Connectors 1.4.1 Voice Ports

    WARNING: Before plugging the connectors into the FXS interfaces on PBX

    voice gateway do check if the lines that are going to plug into do not have any power

    source ("0" voltage).

    Seizure Sequence

    The PBX voice gateways are designed for Auto-Hunting of free voice ports. The seizure

    sequence are as follows; that the FXS ports are seized from lower port numbers to higher port

    numbers. And the FXO ports are seized from higher ports to lower ports.

    The principal of utilizing the seizure sequence is to prevent over exult on using some certain

    ports to balance the available life times of the device. So if the PBX seize the trunk lines from 1

    to 8, then we might connect the line1 of PBX analog trunk to the FXS port 8 on the voice

    gateway. Thus when user seizure the analog trunk it will start to connect to the FXS ports on

    voice gateway from port 8 to port 1, mean while, that receiving a remote call will utilize ports

    start from port 1 to port 8. This will reduce the number of collisions of seizing the channels also.

    Base on the same philosophy, if the incoming calls from PSTN (Central Office) start from phone

    number 508-1201 to 508-1208 (where the main office number is 5081200), then it would be

    better for us to connect the phone line with number 5081201 to the port 1 of FXO on voice

    gateway.

    Dealing with RJ-11 connectors

    On those models which equip with RJ-11 connectors. Use tools to fix the

    RJ-11 jack on the wire that you are going to plug into the device

    Dealing with IDC connectors

    Note 2 It would be better to use 24AWG cable (such as CAT 5) for IDC

    connectors.

    1. Inserts the wires into the module jack without trim the rubber skin.

    2. Press the crimp down to make the wire contact with IDC latch pins

    and fasten it on the connectors.

    3. Trim the rest of wire to prevent it short with other wires.

    4. Plug in the module jack into the connector.

    1.4.2 Console Port

    For 12-inch and 19-inch models (Male, DTE connector)

    For 7-inch desktop models

    Use Null Modem cable to connect the console port on voice gateway and the serial

    port of PC. You can refer to the Table 5-6 The Pinouts for Null Modem Cable Used on

    Console Interface for more detail Pinout information.

    1.4.3 CDR Port The CDR port equipped on some of the models only. Use the same null modem cable

    as console interface and connect to the serial port on your billing system.

    When lit, indicates a loop has been detected. Flashing, indicates an outgoing call.

    Power Indicates stable power. Device Alarm The device will halt and the indicator will

    continue to light on if a system test failure is detected. When this gateway is a Slave gateway, the Alarm LED will be Red if this Slave gateway is unable to communicate with the remote Master gateway. If this gateway successfully synchronized with the remote Master gateway, the Alarm LED will be dark. For Master gateway, the Alarm LED will not light on unless there is hardware error.

    For wall-mounting, please be sure to have the FAN toward the upper side, for the heat

    in the device will be easier to blow out from FAN with its side toward to the upper side.

    Also please leave some space for air flow, this will help the heat dispatching. Below, is

    a suggestion for wall mounting installation.

    The life-line function is that when power fail and the device can not work, user still

    have the ability to use local PSTN line to communicate with others.

    When power fail on VoIP gateway, the first port of FXS will be the last port of FXO on MP3208.

    Thus, there is one to one port mapping of FXS with FXO ports on MP3208 module when power

    fail.

    2.1.4.2 The Lifeline support on 7-inches models On 7-inches models, the lifeline support work on port 1 (FXS) with port 2 (FXO) for 1FXS and 1

    FXO model; for 2FXS and 2FXO model, lifeline works on port 2 (FXS) with port 3 (FXO).

    2.1.4.3 Using MP3208 to save the extra Trunk card of PBX

    Using MP3208 has another advantage that you can use your current analog trunk card without

    add another new analog trunk card for PBX voice gateway. Although, you can have both

    MP3008 and MP3108 to take the same advantage but with two modules instead of only one.

    3 Safety Information

    WARNING: Before plugging the connectors into the FXS interfaces on PBX voice gateway

    do check if the lines that are going to plug into do not have any power source ("0" voltage).

    WARNING: Read the installation instructions before operating on the device.

    WARNING: Before powering up the device, do not connect any telephone line into the

    voice channels.

    WARNING: Before opening the chassis, avoiding connect any telephone cable into the

    WARNING: Device does not provide Hot Plug capability, powering off the device before

    WARNING: This device provides the secondary protection that helping the device to
