What is a resume?

• Sales Document• Designed to get you an interview. • Does NOT need to have every job• Does NOT need to have every task in

the jobs listed

Another way to look at it

• Make life of the HR person easier– How many seconds do you have?– What makes a good cover letter?

• Move your resume to the next step (or the next generation!)

The Visual Technique

• 2' test, what draws your eye?

• Engage and you get more time!

Step 1:

• Goal, Objective, (or whatever you want to call it)• 1-2 seconds• 1 sentence only– What position do you want?– What is great about you that will help them?

Step 2:

• Summary, Skills (or whatever you want to call it)• 2-3 seconds• Bullets or simple chart• No phrase longer than half a line each

Step 3:

• Experience• 5-30 seconds• Draw attention to Title, or Company, or Both• Everything in bullets, max 2 lines per item• Accomplishments, responsibilities if needed
