ON TRACK WITH
BROTHER LARRY
Why does Jesus ask Peter three times if he
loves him, when once would have served just as
well?
Some say it's for added emphasis. Others,
that the threefold repetition demonstrates a sort of
call-and-response liturgical style.
In fact, asking the question once would not
have done just as well. It's possible – even likely –
that the risen Lord asks the question in this way be-
cause he's very aware of the burden of guilt his
leading disciple is carrying, for having denied his
Lord three times. With each question – and each
"You know that I love you" response – Jesus gra-
ciously permits Peter to walk it back and, one by
one, redo the mistakes he's made in the past.
Read John 21:1-19, then come to worship at
8:30 or 10:45. We’ll talk about the “resurrection
breakfast” where Jesus asked the questions and Pe-
ter was “Non-responsive.” See you then!

GET UP & GIVE
MISSION PROJECT
Because of your support, the Get Up & Give Mission Project for Methodist
Family Health was a HUGE success! Our church collected lots of items that
will benefit the Methodist Counseling Clinic and the Children’s Home right
here in Magnolia. In addition to items such as notebooks, crayons, bed sheets,
and puzzles (and much more)—the children’s department collected toilet
paper and paper towels. The children collected 452 rolls of toilet
paper and 205 rolls of paper towels! Because of your hard work,
Mr. Jeremy was slimed with over 5 gallons of ooey, gooey slime! Way to
go kids!

A note from the prayer ministry...
O most amazing Creator, we thank you for life on earth with you, with all your creation, with each other. O God, it is because you gave us hearts for honoring life that we pause at this time of challenge and promise before and during the days of General Conference in Portland, Oregon, to be still and listen---to each others' stories of fear, hurt, and hope; to your call to justice and love; to your Spirit of compassion within. In the way of Jesus, we pray. Amen
The United Methodist Church General Conference 2016 will meet in Portland, Oregon, on May 10 - 20. Each annual
conference is invited to pray for its delegation to the General Conference and for the work of
holy conferencing that will take place there.
