As I stand in the driveway and look out to the beautiful view of the mountains and close by Holiday Valley, I can see the chairlift extends just a few yards above my vantage point. The light knotty pine exterior helps the house stand out from the snow bedecked forest it’s nestled in. This is when I realize what a perfect little romantic getaway spot this house is. Like most ski cabins, the entry opens to an area that serves as a place to dispose of skis, winter equipment and heavy clothes. But this room also serves as a game room and sleeping bag room for that passel of kids who just insisted on coming along on Mom and Dad’s romantic weekend. There is also a bathroom and spare bedroom on this floor. Moving up the stairway to the second floor is where the romantic charm of this house really starts to unfold. The staircase lands in the great room and suddenly the entire scene comes together. The first thing I notice are the huge picture windows that make up the two stories of the east wall. The beautiful view through the windows looks out to the slopes of Holiday Valley and across to the distant mountains. The room’s open floor plan, two story ceiling, and huge windows create a light breathable space that quickly sets an atmosphere of relaxation and comfort. The floor and walls are all done in handsome knotty pine wood, treated with just a light varnish to let the natural wood grain come through. To my left I see a wood fireplace and to my right the kitchen and dining area. The sitting area in front of the fireplace is the perfect place to settle in at the end of a long day skiing with a hot toddy and someone to cuddle up with. The modern kitchen is up-to- date with chrome appliances. There is a well-planned central cooking island with a gas cook top and oven.
