For Lucille Ball fans everywhere, this is the right celebration for you. Friday and Saturday, August 6 and 7 is the time to relive and celebrate Lucy, and even Desi’s life. Although the celebration is smaller this year, said Sharon Bergstron, the assistant to the executive director of the Lucy-Desi Center, they still expect a lot of people to come and celebrate Ball’s life. The celebration pulls people from all over the world in to celebrate one of comedy’s most beloved actresses. “This is fantastic for our community, said Bergstron. “We get people from all over the country, plus all over the world … From California to Canada we get people. It’s a big draw for all of Western New York.” The celebration will feature two birthday parties commemorating what would have been Ball’s 99th birthday. From noon to 3 p.m. both days, the center will host the parties at the Taste of Jamestown. The Taste is thrown

by the Downtown Jamestown Development Corporation on Third Street between Pine and Cherry. The party will feature cakes donated by local Jamestown bakeries, caterers and stores. There will also be a special wine tasting of Willow Creek Winery’s chocolate wine. The fourth annual Taste of Jamestown will feature restaurants, cafes, bars, and catering companies. Live entertainment will showcase at Potter’s Terrace along with tasty treats from local eateries. The 2010 entertainment line-up includes the Kokomo Time Band on Friday from 12pm-3pm and Willow Creek from 6-9pm; Saturday will feature Stealth Blues Bombers from 12pm-3pm, Terra Firma from 4pm-5pm and Smackdab from 6pm-9pm. The birthday celebration will also feature a silent auction, which Desilu workers are keeping under wraps. “We’re actually not telling people about the items up to bid,” said Bergstron. “We want people to come and be surprised.” Following the tradition of

Ball’s passion, there will be a performance by comedian, Chris “Crazy Legs” Fonseca at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 6. Chris has appeared on The American Comedy Awards, Entertainment Tonight, The Howard Stern Show and Late Night with David Letterman, as well as many others. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at either the center’s museum gift shops, the Reg Lenna box offi ce or online at www.lucy-desi.com, according to the press release. To celebrate this year even more, the Lucy-Desi Center is offering a special deal. The center is not only offering a great way to celebrate Lucy’s birthday, but a great way to remember her and some of “I Love Lucy’s” favorite moments. For Friday and Saturday only, people can get into both the Lucy-Desi Museum and the Desilu Playhouse for only $10 per person. People can fi nd out more information online or by calling 716-484-0880, or toll-free at 1-877-LUCY-FAN.

As the saying goes, if you don’t like the weather around here, just wait a minute – it will certainly change! The tempera-tures have generally been hu-mid, hot and steamy. It seems if you plan anything these days,

you have to be prepared for rain, then heat and back to rain again. You’ve got to plan for both inside and outside venues with these erratic weather pat-terns. Lucky for us, we live in a beautiful corner of the state where we’re afforded wonder-ful alternatives. Let’s say this Friday and Sat-urday turn out to be real stinkers – you know, raincoat weather. You could, I suppose, stay home at the cottage and clean. Yeah, that’s fun… But isn’t it time you pampered yourself with a morning or afternoon at Peek’n Peak’s day spa? This top-notch facility is absolutely gorgeous and the people who work there are so friendly and attentive … Plus it’s inside, which would be nice. But you never know – we may totally luck out and Saturday could be glorious sunshine and nice, high-70’s temperature-

perfect for an outside affair. I couldn’t think of anything better to do than to head over to Be-mus Point or Mayville. Just go for a stroll along the waterfront – whatever you’re into you’ll fi nd. Shopping, dining, boat-ing, swimming, or just gazing out at the beautiful water – the warm weather opportunities are endless! There – I’ve come up with the perfect weekend plan to help you all stay on top of this darn changing weather. You’re all set – unless it snows, of course. And in the highly unlikely event of snowfall, you could always hike up Peek’n Peak for a little snow boarding, right? Now, that would be fun! So dear readers, whatever this weekend fi nds you doing, remember my credo: whether rain, sleet, sun or snow, the fun must go on! Get out there and enjoy! Until next week… JZ
