The January issue of “The View” marks the begin‐ning of another calendar year for this monthly pub‐lica on. Changes in the bulk mailing regula ons
make the mely delivery of third class mail more and more difficult. While we will strive to get each monthly issue mailed in me for readers to benefit from its contents, the best way to ensure you will receive it in a mely manner is to have it sent to your e‐mail ad‐dress or to read it via the web site. Please save this copy to use for reference for all of January.
Five staff members are recognized for having completed another year of work at Mount Zion. Beverly Craig (Head Custodian) and Shannon Smith (Children’s Ministry Intern) complete 4 years of service; Frank Rucker (Financial Administrator) and Alston Meacham (Ministry Assistant/Finance Assistant) complete 11 years of service; Rowe Smith (Maintenance Supervisor) completes 15 years. Congratula ons!
As we begin opera ng under the 2016 General Fund Budget the me has come to ini ‐ate the process leading to the calling of a new Preschool Minister. This posi on is funded for the last six months of 2016 so the goal is to have a minister begin service on July 1. To accomplish this goal we will do the following: 1) Approve a job descrip on upon the rec‐ommenda on of the Personnel Commi ee in the January 17th quarterly business mee ng; 2) Elect a Search Commi ee on Sunday morning, January 24th. The 5 people elected to serve on this commi ee need to be connected to and aware of the scope of preschool ministry at Mount Zion and evidence a deep commitment to the overall life of the congrega on. I encourage you to begin praying now about those individuals God would lead you to support to serve on this strategic commi ee.
As of this date we are just short of $100,000 in giving toward our goal of $225,000 for the Lo e Moon Christmas Offering. As is our prac ce, we will con nue to promote this offering through the month of January and look forward to giving the highest amount ever in the history of Mount Zion. Thank you for your commitment to suppor ng our missionaries around the world through this special offering.
The beginning of a new calendar year offers opportunity for both reflec on and projec‐on. As Rob so eloquently stated in his ar cle, there is much to be thankful for and much
to look forward to as the new year dawns. Charlo e and I are grateful for the comple on of 11 years in this place with you and look forward to how God will lead and guide all of us as 2016 unfolds. Happy New Year!

With the end of a calendar year there are some habits of thankfulness that I try to engage in. I don’t know about you,
but my habits of thanksgiving are daily, weekly, monthly and yearly. With each different category I am able to see God’s unfailing love, faithfulness and provision in a slightly altered manner. In my annual thanksgiving I am able to see some of God’s grand movements in the tapestry of my life ‐ things that did not make sense in the day‐to‐day are a bit more clear a er seeing how those indi‐vidual acts add up over me. One thing is sure ‐ God’s movement is always there (whether I con‐sider it or not), but by stopping to no ce His work I am be er able to praise Him and I become even more confident about the days ahead! I hope you will take the me to reflect on His bless‐ings over the last year. The beginning of a new year also has some tradi ons for me ‐ ac ons which are rooted deep in my childhood. I remember si ng around our dining room table on New Year’s day with my par‐ents and sibling making resolu ons for the new year ‐ things each of us wanted to change or to make be er in the year ahead. We made our lists and o en me shared parts of the list with one another. There were some “less and more items” that made our list every year like “eat less, ex‐ercise more, spend less, save more.” There were other items about our walk with God or our kindness to one another that were very specific to a specific me in our lives ‐ they were personal and required real reflec on. As an adult, I s ll find myself making the “less and more” resolu ons so that my overall quality of life can improve. I also will be taking me to evaluate the specific rela onships in my life to see how I can love others be er, how I can be more of the man God wants to be, and how I can reveal His love to others. Over the years these have become more than just resolu ons, they’ve become goals that I try to accomplish over the course of a year ‐ hopefully based in a vision of the trajecto‐ry of God’s movement in my life. They require real work, careful insight and deliberate prayer. As a result, they are typically a powerful tool of direc on and measurement for me each year. Per‐haps this year you will consider making such a list of resolu ons/goals for yourself. I have found the results to be overwhelmingly posi ve!

Be y and I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during these past weeks. The three and a half weeks in the hospital does make one a li le weary. A couple of the highlights of the stay were the wall of cards and the visits/phone calls. Your wishes and prayers were posted on the wall in
my room and were a constant reminder that God was there with me every me I looked at them. They also let the nursing staff know that there was a church influence in my life which lead to my being able to demonstrate and share the love of Christ with several of my nurses. Thank you for your prayers and the encouragement over the phone. A kind and concerned voice was greatly appreciated. I especially want to thank those men who came and stayed with me when Be y could not be there. Words cannot express my apprecia on and thanks to all who par cipated. Also, since I've been home both Be y and I want to thank everyone for the meals. Even though I'm s ll trying to get to where I can eat normally, Be y has enjoyed having the meals there.
What's in store for the future? My healing is slow. Therefore, I will be in and out for the rest of the year, as I can tolerate. I hope to be back to near full strength by the first full week in January. But, this process is up to God. So, please keep me in your prayers as the recovery con nues. You can feel free to call at any me or come by the house. Be y and I love Mount Zion and are grateful for the me of healing afforded to me.
Just a note of reminder...The CMC will be closed the week of December 28 ‐ January 1st. for the refinishing of the floor.
Look for the first copy of a new mission's news le er coming in mid‐January. The news le er en tled "co MISSION" will be a mid‐monthly publi‐ca on designed to keep you up to date on mission events and opportuni es as well as give you a chance to hear from those who have par cipat‐ed in the event before. Look for it in mid January.
Upward Sports is s ll going strong. One more week of prac ces and games and then the Christmas break. Prac ces will resume on January 4.
Finally, Be y and I want to wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Missions & Outreach
As we wind down the year, I reflect on various ministries and events that have taken place in the church that have led mul ple children to
choose to follow Christ. These decisions have demonstrated an eternal transforming rela onship with God in their lives. For this purpose, all our programs are set‐up to provide a way to inten onally reach kids and help them grow as well as help them see the importance of a per‐sonal union with Jesus. As we begin another year the goal s ll remains the same. Therefore, there will be addi onal opportuni es to keep them moving toward the prize. Please mark these dates on your calen‐dar so your child can a end some of these opportuni es.

Students HUGE THANKS to the Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra for the wonderful presenta on of “Christmas In His
Presence.” Special thanks to Lee and Dean Polk for the wonder‐ful way they led us in worship through beau ful narra ons. The house was full and I believe everyone was blessed. Thanks to eve‐ryone who had a part in making this wonderful presenta on.
This is my last newsle er ar cle for 2015 so let me take this oppor‐tunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Blessed New Year. I pray that you will experience God’s richest blessings in 2016. My prayer is that He will keep His Song alive in your heart throughout the coming year.
As always, when a new year begins we reflect over the previous year and look forward to the new one. Naturally we want every New Year to be be er than the previous one. We want to be be er people and experience more successes in the coming year.
As I think back over the last year in our music and worship ministry, I remember many wonderful successes and how God has richly blessed us in so many ways. It has truly been a joy to serve the Lord with you this year. I thank my Lord every day for the oppor‐tunity to come to work and serve Him here at Mount Zion Bap st Church. We have Made His Praise Glorious in many ways, from the youngest preschool choir to the senior adults, both through singing and playing of instruments. I know that we are going to see God do amazing things in our midst as we keep our eyes on Jesus and follow Him in the coming year. Praise the Lord from whom all blessings flow!
