CSCC MEMBERS

Need to update your information? Be sure to check the printed roster. It has more information about your car, your club history, etc. than the on-line Member Roster.

Information in “NOTES” is not included in the online version of the Member roster. If you want to add/delete/change anything, send changes to:

Paul Thompson: [email protected].

New car(s), delete car, add the color or model of your car, new address, new phone number? The 2016 printed roster will be updated the first of the year and distributed in February.

For new members joined in 2016, check out the “Printed Roster Supplement”. You may want to add to the “NOTES”, or better describe your car model and color. You can make basic changes all year long as they happen, but to add the information in “NOTES” for the printed roster, beat the deadline - submit changes now.

CSCC Cheers on the Sky Sox to Victory

Stop the presses! The Sky Sox finally won a game while the CSCC were at the stadium. 28 club members, joined by 14 family and guests, and 4 prospective members signed up to enjoy a night of baseball, and an all you can eat BBQ feast, which took place on August 18th. While everybody was busy sampling the fine cuisine, the Sky Sox were taking a pounding in the first inning. The punishment was short lived though, because the Sky Sox roared back, and won the game by a score of 13-5. An abundance of foul balls were hit in our direction and a few were taken home as souvenirs, along with a t-shirt or two. Sox the Fox, the team mascot made a special effort to visit our club members, which brought wide smiles to the young, and the young at heart. Sixteen Corvettes braved the threatening skies, and were admired by all who walked by them. A couple of fellow Corvette owners asked about our club. We provided them information cards. Hopefully we will see them soon. A great time was enjoyed by all, and plans are in place to do it again next year.

Daniels Long Chevrolet

The August 20th dealer appreciation day started with a chill in the

air, but turned out to be a mild summer day. Eighty cars entered, with a few late comers donating to the charity and joining in just to be part of the Corvette gathering. Special recognition was given to the Club’s oldest member Helen McCaffery (a young 95), a member since 1994. Entering in the exhibition class, Helen, the original owner, showed her 1958 Silver Corvette that she purchased from Daniels Chevrolet in Colorado Springs, the original sponsor for our Club for over 45 years. A special thanks to Gary Crumb, a Club lifetime member, for bringing the car out and making the outing possible for Helen. A lot of work goes into putting on this event. 1

st time chairperson,

Anita Smith, and co-chair Vicki Ury did a grand job rallying the troops. Helping Daniels Long clear the parking lot were car movers: Nick Renfro, Vicki Ury, Larry & Gwenda Valentine, Rick Mendoza, and Tom Jackson. Day of event workers: Tom & Vicki Ury, Steve & Anita Smith, Barrett Benson, Brian Dougherty, Cynthia Robinson, Phyllis Ury, Larry & Gwenda Valentine, John Ames, Lucia Bell, Diana Dittman, John Gue, Tom Jackson, Rick Mendoza, Roger Miller, Philip Moore, Mike Neufeld, Jim & Judy Nile, Alta Olejnik, Wes Powell, Nick Renfro, Alan Russ, Jeff Scott, and Gerry Turner. Corvettes at Keystone – Rocky Mt Region Labor Day Weekend

Over 75 people representing the regional clubs attended the weekend event for Car Show, Rallye, and Auto Crosses. The River Run Village at Keystone was the site for the car show on Saturday. We found ourselves amongst their holida too y October Fest Festival, including a 5K Run through the car show. The rallye, put on by our own Roger Miller and Don McCoy cruised us through the beauty of Colorado for a nice drive. Most arrived at the finish just in time to duck into the Damn Brewery before getting soaked by the rain. Sunday kept us guessing about the weather. What had promised to be a dry day turned into an on again, off again rain day, with bright sunshine in between to dry the auto cross course. Chairmen, Lorren Loewen and Walt Jenkins went with the flow. All-in-all, it was a grand weekend. Check the NCCC Rocky Mountain Region website for results for each event. CSCC members entering events or volunteering to work events were Mike & Winnie Bochnak, Chris Capshaw & Jonathan, Doug and Tanya Cox, Roger Miller & Kitty Divis, Brian & Pam Dougherty, David & Shauna Hall, Tom and Maite Hanon, Walt & Nancy Jenkins, Bob & Pam Knowles, Lorren & Laurie Loewen, Jerry Ludke & grandson Sam(who also ran the 5K), Don & Cindy McCoy, Carol Shumaker, Rick Mendoza, Jim & Bobbie Mesite, Alan & Joyce Russ, Jeff & Liz Scott, Steve & Anita Smith, Tom & Vicki Ury, and Larry & Gwenda Valentine.

Get to Know Your Fellow Members

An Interview with Roger Miller By Diana Dittman

. How long have you been a CSCC member? Since 2007; was a previous member, joined in 1997 and was a member for 12 years.

What Corvette(s) do you currently own? 1968 Convertible, 2004 Convertible ZO6, and a 2008 Z06

Marital Status? Single, but has a good friend,

Kitty Divis.

How did you meet? Roger and Kitty met in 2005 while on the road to autocross in Fruita, CO. Roger invited Kitty to take a ride to the Colorado National Monument.

Where are you from? Born and grew up in Chandler, Indiana. Lived there for 23 years and then moved to Colorado in 1968. Bought a 1968 Convertible Corvette and had it for 4 months, then sold it.

Employment? Roger is a civil engineer in natural gas, and has worked for Engineer Concepts LLC for 5 years. Since 1968, he has worked for various other companies throughout the years.

Kids? a boy who works for Mayo Aviation and one girl who works for the University of California,

Riverside. Also has an eight year old Granddaughter.

Favorite club activity? Auto crosses and rallies. (A side note: Roger has finished in the Top 5 for auto crossing in the Rocky Mountain region for 10 out of 15 years that he has been affiliated with a club).

Hobbies? Corvettes, wood working, and travel

What is the best vacation you ever took? Two trips come to mind. Roger and Kitty went to Montana to visit relatives and went sight-seeing (from a local’s perspective) including going to Glacier National Park. In 2004, Roger took delivery of his 2008 ZO6 at NCM in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He drove his 2004 out there and with the help of his son and former college roommate they drove both back. It was very special to have his son and college roomie there.

What is your dream corvette? He owns it, the 2008 Atomic Orange ZO6 with museum delivery.

How did your love of Corvettes come about? While attending Western Kentucky College in Bowling Green, Roger and his roommate Jack, both had pictures of a 1963 Corvette up on the wall and they would talk about it. The first car that Roger ever owned was a 1968 Corvette. He had it for four months, and then sold it. After 30 years, he was able to purchase a 1968 again. Another side note: his license plate for the 1968 is abbreviated for 30 year wait.

Anything else you would like to add? Roger enjoys the people in the club and the socialization at all of the events that the club has to offer.

Thanks for the interview Roger!

G-Forces

When auto crossing, it’s important to monitor the condition of your tire tread wear and tire pressures. One of the things I thought was interesting is the information your car’s g-force meter gives you. For instance, when racing my C7 on street tires, I can achieve up to 1.07g’s in a corner, while on my race tires (Hoosier A6/A7 compound) I can get up to 1.25g’s - a very noticeable difference. I have noticed when the g-forces drop, it’s either due to too much heat and subsequent tire pressure or the tire has worn through to the cords. On C7’s with the Michelin Pilot Sport tires, you will notice significantly diminished performance when the outside edges of the tires are worn down. Different tracks/parking lots produce different g-forces and the same goes for ambient and track temperatures. Understanding this can help you feel your way around a track and know when you can push hard, and when not to push hard. If you own a C6, at the end of your run, simply press on the Page key (or one of those keys – I forget which one) on your head’s up display buttons for about five seconds and it will display the highest g-force encountered during that session – just make sure you check it before you shut the car off. C7’s will hold the highest g-force for a few seconds after it is encountered – good luck trying to monitor that in a race – best to use the track recording option some of you lucky people have. 2016 ANNUAL CELEBRATION RECAP

At this writing, I’ve just returned from the National Corvette Museum’s 22

nd Annual Birthday Celebration in Bowling Green,

Ky. Happy to report the weather was perfect, attendees were enthusiastic, and seminars were fantastic. I learned about the new C7 Grand Sport from GM’s Harlan Charles, and saw the 4 new colors offered for the 2017 Grand Sport model. All the Corvette Hall of Famers in attendance, including this year’s inductees, Bob Bondurant and Ralph Kramer, graciously obliged my request for autographs!

I spent some time with Paul Koerner, the Corvette Specialist. As usual, I learned more about the C7 than I can possibly remember. Filling up quickly, his workshops alone are well worth the trip to the Museum. The Hall of Fame dinner was delightful and food was outstanding. Background videos of the honorees revealed so much about what they’ve contributed to Corvette and why they were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Now into my 11

th year as a Museum member, I was again

recognized as a Master Ambassador at the Ambassadors meeting. I couldn’t achieve this high level without your support – thank you very much. As many of you know, I’m also a member of Down the Road Corvettes in Lakewood, and happily accepted the “Furthest Traveled Award” for the club’s summer visit to the Museum. Perhaps our Colorado Springs CC might also want to visit the Museum as a group… just let

me know and I’ll begin planning. I was present for the black 2016 Corvette Stingray drawing, and glad that a Coloradan, Mike Bacco from Loveland, won. No, I didn’t sell him the lucky ticket, but my friends asked me if I had. Hopefully yours will be the next lucky Colorado ticket!

I encourage each one of you to visit the Museum and, if possible, attend one of its several events. I’ll feature 2017 event dates in an upcoming newsletter. RAFFLE At the October meeting, I’ll have $10 tickets for the

next Corvette, an Arctic White Stingray Coupe, to be drawn in

February.
