Warm greetings to all from ASQ Southeast Florida Section 1510
Our last dinner meeting of 2017, held jointly with Section 1515, took place on November 7th at Tropical Acres Steak House in 2500 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, with 24 attendees. Our presenters for this meeting were the Nova Southeastern ASQ 1510 Student Branch officers including Outgoing and Incoming Board Officers. They discussed how the branch was developed and the value-added activities they have accomplished in the last 12 months. The new officers for 2018 were introduced and were available for questions and answers related to their activities. The NSU Section 1510 Student Branch holds meetings on the 4th Tuesday of each month and we were all encouraged to attend these meetings in order to support the branch, know what is happening and hear their invited speakers. This month's door prize was an Oster Electric Skillet which was won by one of the members of the student panel! Congratulations! Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, January 16th, 2018 which will also be a Joint Meeting with Section 1515 and will be held at Tropical Acres Steak House in 2500 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale. Speaker and Topic to follow. Stay tuned to our next Newsletter! This will also be my last message as Chair of Section 1510. I am handling the reigns to the very capable hands of our new Chair, Eduardo M. Suarez. I would like to thank the entire board for your support and for sharing your knowledge during this past year. Without you it would not have been possible to fill this position. Thank you! Section 1510 continues to offer multiple classes including refresher courses for the ASQ exams Plus Internal Auditing for Quality Systems and Blueprint Reading. Payment is not required until there is a minimum of 5 students registered. You will be notified if the course can be offered for you to submit payment as soon as possible so that the books be available the first day of classes. Please check our Newsletter, Website and/or LinkedIn for details. I encourage all to attend the Section Meetings and facility tours. Take advantage of our classes, seminars and refresher courses to enhance your professional experience in the quality discipline. Meet your peers while networking and earn Recertification Units (RUs) by participating in all three activities. I hope to see you at these events
I would like to wish everyone of you a very Happy and Blessed Holiday season. May the light of Hope and Peace always shine for you and your family! May 2018 bring Peace to the world which so badly needs!
Thank you for everything!!! Maria C. Graña Chair, ASQ Section 1510 Email: [email protected]

Presentation Topic: Why, When, and How to Con-
duct an Effective KAIZEN
The true intent of a Kaizen Event is to hold small events attended by the owners and operators of a process in or-der to make process improvements which are within the scope of the process participants. Kaizen is part action plan and part philosophy:
• As an action plan, Kaizen is about organizing events focused on improving specific areas within the com-pany. These events involve teams of employees at all levels, with an especially strong emphasis on involv-ing employees who are process users.
• As a philosophy, Kaizen is about building a culture where all employees are actively engaged in suggest-ing and implementing improvements to the compa-ny. In truly lean companies, it becomes a natural way of thinking for both managers and plant floor em-ployees.
Interestingly, Kaizen as an action plan is exactly what develops Kaizen as a philosophy.
Presentation highlights include:
• How to choose between LEAN, Six Sigma, or KAI-ZEN
• Kaizen Event Pre-Planning, Execution, and Sustaina-bility - Beyond “Just Do It”
• How DMAIC and KAIZEN phases are similar – yet different
• Determining which LEAN tools to select for an Event
• Examples of Communication, Action Item, and Sus-tain Plans
• Effective record keeping practices
• Post Event activities
• How to create a KAIZEN culture
