members or anyone interested in learning more. Join us in the Hospitality

Area directly after the late service for a homemade lunch, our own

Presbyterian backstory, and some great conversation! RSVP to the church

office at 405-372-5580 so we can be sure to have enough soup!

Grace for All T-shirts

If you were needing a First Presbyterian t-shirt, the Communications and Connecting Committee has a few “Grace for All” shirts left in a variety of sizes. The heathered blue shirts are made of a soft, comfortable tri-blend that prevents shrinking, and they feature James Causley’s amazing line art of our building on the back—very attractive and amazingly wearable! Crewnecks are $10 and V-Necks are $12. We have a lot of sizes in stock (including youth), and we can special order! See Kathy Thomas, Paula Kendrick, or Magdalena if you want one!

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also . . .” Matthew 6:21

This fall, and throughout all the seasons God grants us, we celebrate Giving and Growing together. 2018 has been a year of growth in welcoming new members, in our ministries with children and youth, in our support of global mission, and in our understanding of God leading us forward with grace for all.

I give thanks to God in every season for the time, energy, creativity, talents, spiritual gifts, and financial resources you share to support our common mission and ministry. We are a congregation that is called to share God’s grace for all in our worship and music, ministries that nurture and nourish faith, hosting of community and non-profit agency meetings and events in our well-maintained building, outreach to families and individuals in crisis and grief, and commitment to peacemaking and global witness in Christ’s name. We can do these things together and more because of the commitments that you make toward the end of one year in our Annual Stewardship Cam-paign. Your gifts and pledges help our leadership discern God’s common mission for us in the next year.

Sunday, October 28th is Commitment Sunday. Please bring your Time & Talent and Financial Pledges to worship as we dedicate them to God’s use. Or, you may turn them in before the Commitment Sunday date. You can use the pledge packet that was mailed to your house, pick one up at the church, or make your pledges entirely online at www.stillwaterfpc.org by clicking Stewardship banner on the front page.

Commitment Sunday will conclude with a potluck lunch at noon in the Fellowship Hall. Please bring your favorite dish to share, enjoy fellowship with one another, and view photos highlighting the many ways we have been able to share Christ’s grace, peace, and joy over the past year.

May our hearts be tuned to God’s grace as we share the gifts God has given each of us. You are a treasure to this community, to Christ’s church, to each other, and to this pastor.

Love in Christ,

A Letter from Leah

Faith Quote

"As far as I know, no great prophet has promised people that God will give them social justice, though he may have threatened doom and extinction if the people themselves don’t do something about it. If God cares about us, we have to care about each other. Sociology is rational. God is not. God knows the very moment we are born."

As most of you know, we welcomed our second child, Grant Hrachovec Cooper, on October 10 into God’s world. Thank you for your prayers, love, and for allowing me to have this Family Leave time during these first weeks of Grant’s life. I am deeply grateful to God for all of you who are continuing to lead and serve while I am away. My planned date of return is Christmas Eve, preaching at the 11:00 pm service. Beginning now until the end of December, interim associate pastor Deb Meinke is acting Head of Staff. She, other staff, and available Deacons and Stephen Leaders will assist with pastoral care coverage. If you have a pastoral need or emergency, please call the church office. There is an after-hours number available if you have an immediate need: (405) 338-7545 This fall and Advent seasons, we are blessed with a great group of preachers who

will be sharing the Word in our worship services. Here is the planned schedule of

preachers for the rest of 2018:

Family Leave Update from Leah

The congregation voted on Sunday, October 14th, to call Jennifer Hardin as Associate Pastor of First Presbyterian Church effective January 1, 2019. The vote tally was 101 in favor, 18 opposed, with 3 abstentions. Watch for events and information to come as we welcome Jenny and Abbey into the life of First Presbyterian Church!

On Tuesday, October 16th members of Cimarron Presbytery examined Jennifer Hardin for Ordination to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament on matters of theology, polity and personal faith. Her examination was approved unanimously as well as her membership in Cimarron Presbytery. The presbytery concurred in the congregation’s desire to approve Jennifer’s call as Associate Pastor effective January 1, 2019.

Heifer Ranch Retreat Recap – A Transformative Experience! 18 youth and 6 adults traveled to Perryville, AR, September 23-24 to experience the Global Village at Heifer Ranch. Run by Heifer International (www.heifer.org), the Global Village allowed the youth to learn about and experience the complex issues of hunger and poverty, unequal distribution of resources, and so much more. They were placed in family groups and were divided up by countries: Guatemala, Thailand, Zambia, and the urban slums. Through the experience and the debriefing, youth came away with a deeper understanding of the deeper issues surrounding poverty and hunger and the power that we have to create change in the world. You’ll be hearing more from our youth on their Heifer Ranch experience during Youth Sunday on Sunday, February 3. We plan to offer this retreat opportunity every other year!

We are very excited to have Gary and Nancy Simpson join us on November 19th. They will be presenting a photo essay on Cornwall and the Cotswolds, two of England’s most charming and beautiful regions. These two regions have been officially designated as “Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty” by Great Britain. The program has pictures from Penzance, the Penwith Peninsula, St. Ives, Land’s End, Porthcurno, Bath, Oxford, Blenheim Palace, and Chipping Campden. Movie and TV producers have used these locations as sets for such popular shows as Harry Potter, Downton Abby, Poldark, Doc Martin, Endeavour, Father Brown, Inspector Morse, and many others. Come out and enjoy some great music and fellowship! Please sign up by Friday, November 16th.

I am in the process of updating my email list based on the new church database. If you wish to be added or removed from this list, please let me know.

If you have any questions about the programs, or any suggestions for future programs, please email me at [email protected]. I am looking forward to seeing you all in November.

We meet at Zannotti’s Wine Bar and child care is provided at the church for those who have reserved a spot. Our final fall meeting will take place 6:00 - 8:00 pm on the following date: Thursday, November 29th

The celebration will be held in the Worship Center followed by a social time in the Hospitality Area. The women from Mt. Zion Baptist Church will be presenting the program: “Reaching for Wholeness in Harmony with God’s People”.

PW/CIRCLE will meet Wednesday, November 14 at 9:45 a.m. in the Hospitality Area. Deb will lead the Bible Study, Lesson 3: God with Us in Our Discouragement.. We will also be celebrating the 2018 THANK OFFERING of Presbyterian Women: Diverse, yet one in Christ. For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another. We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us. . . Romans 12:4-6a. Lunch will be served following Bible Study—there is no charge and reservations are not needed.

Second Mile Sewing continues to meet the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesdays of every month at 9:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. For more information call Barbara Henderson, 377-6391, or Rosetta Silver, 269-6708.

Fair Trade Store News

For both the months of November and December, the FTS will be open Sundays not only during the regular times (9:00 - 11:00 ) but also after the 11:00 service until 12:30 or so. The FTS will also be open the evening of December 16 during Night at Bethlehem. With cooler weather finally here, I will be ordering chocolate soon, so there will be a complete selection before Christmas. A new coffee shipment just arrived from Equal Exchange, so all coffees in both drip and whole bean are in stock as well as hot chocolate. Individual K-cup coffee is available in Breakfast Blend, French Roast, and Decaf. Olive oil is available in two sizes right now. The largest size (750 ml) is $18.00 a bottle, and the medium size (500 ml) is $12.00 a bottle. Soon the smaller bottle (250 ml) will be on the shelves for $6.00 a bottle. This size is perfect for gift giving and using in gift baskets. I will also order lots of jams, chutneys, spices, and hot sauces for the person who has everything, needs nothing, but still likes to cook and eat!!! Remember, at the Fair Trade Store you are getting a great one of a kind gift, and you are also helping an artist or farm worker earn a fair wage.

Goodland Academy Chapel Restoration Part II

A small group of church members went to Goodland Academy October 18 through 21 to continue work on the 1852 chapel there. Last June, we had just enough time to refurbish the east side of the sanctuary by removing all

the existing wood siding, installing insulation, wood sheathing and a vapor barrier, then new concrete board

siding. Rain on Friday afternoon slowed progress, but with the help of another group from FPC Sand Springs on

Saturday, we managed to complete siding on the southeast corner and back wall of the chapel. More work is needed to complete the exterior restoration and we’re

looking forward to opportunities in early spring to continue this work.

Members of our team were Tim Schlais and daughter Rachel (from Conway, AR), Steve Fairbanks, Tammy

Wasson, Mary Emmet, Dennis and Judy Ferrell, and their grandsons, Gus and Austin Franklin.

Remember those doves, leaves, and birdhouses

you colored during the Ministry Fairs?

Not only will they be used for prize drawings

during the potluck luncheon on Sunday, they’ll

also be decorating a tree so we can see all the

fruits of our ministries here at FPC.
