OverviewThe duckling did not feel like he fit into his own

family. He was run off by the other ducks because of how he

looked.He tried to find other places to fit in but he seemed

like he would never find that place. He then saw these bigger white birds flying and

decided to go near them and they welcomed him. (Swans)

The little duckling had to overcome many obstacles until he found the group he felt comfortable with and where he felt he belonged.

Tuckman’s Theory Forming-The Duckling was born and was different

already from the others. Storming- The other ducks would pick on him and

they conflicted. Norming- The ugly duckling found some others who

accepted him. Performing- Then when he normed with the group he

realized he was a beautiful swan and all the people at the park loved him.

Dealing with Conflict

The ugly duckling would want to be accepted Other ducks dominate the conflictThe duckling gave up and ran away When the ugly duckling went to the home of the cat

and the hen they had different ideas of what they wanted so the duckling went away again.

Power and Social InfluenceWhen the family and other ducks at the

water would call the duckling ugly he believed it.

The ducks would establish their power by biting him and chasing him.

Even the people at the park would push him aside making him feel worthless.

Problem Solving

The duckling tried leaving and find another place to go.

He got to the home assessed the outcome. He realized he needed the water so he

thought of other options and decided to go back to the water.

Diversity

The ugly duckling was the different one from the rest of the ducks. It was detrimental to others and himself. (Unique)

Also in the book the duckling, the hen, and the cat became friends for a while. They worked well together.

Lastly the book shows how the ducks, geese, and swans can all share the same body of water together.
