DECLARACIÓN DE MISIÓN DE OLQP La parroquia de la iglesia católica Nuestra Señora Reina de la Paz se dedica a dar testimonio de las enseñanzas de Jesucristo, especialmente el Evan-gelio de San Mateo, Capítulo 25:21-46. Nuestra misión es nutrir el espíritu y alentar el potencial de aquellos a quienes servimos a través de la cele-bración litúrgica, labores educativas y ministerios sociales. La parroquia continuará identificándose con su origen como una comunidad afro-americana, pero reflejando una congregación multi-étnica y continuará promoviendo la armonía racial y la justicia social. Si bien es cierto que nuestro enfoque principal es la vecindad comunitaria, con-tinuaremos trabajando para proveer por el bienes-tar de los más necesitados en general. Es así como nos esforzamos para hacer de nuestra comunidad parroquial una familia que comparte y se preocupa por sus miembros.

OLQP MISSION STATEMENT Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church is dedi-cated to witnessing the teachings of Jesus Christ, especially the Gospel of Saint Matthew, Chapter 25:31-46. Our mission is to nurture the spirit and to encourage the potential of those we serve through liturgical celebration, educational endeavors and social ministries. The parish will continue to identi-fy with its origin as a Black parish. As a multi-ethnic congregation we will seek to promote racial har-mony and social justice. While our primary focus is within the immediate community, we will also work to provide for the well-being of the down-trodden everywhere. In this we strive for our par-ish community to be a caring, sharing, and loving family.

out Mass. After the Final Blessing, please follow the Porter’s instruc-

All the faithful of the Diocese of Arlington are dispensed from the obliga-

tion to attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation.

Face Coverings · You MUST wear a c loth face covering or

disposable face mask. Please bring your own. Parishes may

have a l imited supply designated for those in true need, not

for general distr ibution.

Hand Hygiene · You are expected to disinfect your hands when

entering the church and encouraged to do so again

immediately before receiving Communion. Please bring your

own hand sanitizer, which should contain at least 60% alcohol.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA) What difference can God make in my life? The RCIA is a gradual process of formation for those seeking a deeper relationship with God and a better understanding of the Catholic faith. Whether you are just beginning your faith journey, are already baptized in another Christian tradition and want to explore Catholicism, or are seeking sacramental preparation, RCIA is the pathway. Due to COVID-19 re-strictions, we will begin meeting virtually using Zoom. The journey begins with a “no-strings” inquiry session on Thurs-day, October 22, at 7pm. Join us! CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD (CLW)

We will be starting CLW sessions through zoom starting Sep-

tember 13 until we are able to return to celebrate in person.

Sessions will take place during the Sunday 10:00am Mass

in English and the 2:00pm Mass in Spanish. Families can

find the 2020 CLW calendars with the dates of the online

sessions as well as the Zoom link to join the session on the

Parish’s website.

RELAUNCH OF THE FOOD SECURITY TEAM -- As our

busy food pantry serves more than 550 families a week and

the Administration proposes further food program budget

cuts, we are looking to relaunch the food security team. The

team has been on hiatus after our long-term lead retired

and moved out of the area. If you are interested in joining

CELEBRATE THE SEASON OF CREATION From Sept 1-Oct 4 each year, the Christian community

around the world celebrates the Season of Creation by pray-

ing and acting together to protect our common home,

Mother Earth.

Catholics unite with others in the Christian family to protect

all creatures in God's beautifully complex web of crea-

tion. This is a time to celebrate the abundance of life and to

refocus our efforts to protect creation in all its glory.

Members of the parish Integrity of Creation Team have pre-

pared articles that explore the wonder and complexity of

God's creation and challenge us to take actions to enhance

and protect God's gift. These articles will appear weekly in

the bulletin during the month of September.

Pope Francis urges us to recognize our connectedness with

the natural world when he said, "Nature cannot be regarded

as something separate from ourselves or as a mere setting

in which we live. We are part of nature, included in it and

thus in constant interaction with it." (Laudato Si 139) Let us

celebrate, give thanks and protect this wondrous gift of cre-

ation.

The BUILDING FOREVER FAMILIES ministry for adop-

RESPECT LIFE CONFERENCE - Join us on Saturday,

September 12, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Annandale for an assessment of current and potential threats to human life and dignity and suggestions for effective practical grass-roots response. Mass will be offered in the church at 8am. The program will be held in the gymnasium from 8:45am -12:30pm. Bishop Michael Burbidge will offer opening prayer and comments before the program. the poor by volunteering--on site or remotely from home--with the Mother of Mercy Free Medical Clinics. Located in Manassas and Woodbridge, the clinics provide free, quality healthcare to low income individuals who are uninsured or under-insured. Demand for clinic services has skyrocketed, and we are in desperate need of medical and non- medical volunteers. Most of the volunteering can be done virtually, from the safety and convenience of home. On site opportu-nities exist as well. Volunteers must be willing to make a regular, ongoing commitment. CELEBRE LA ÉPOCA DE LA CREACIÓN Cada año del 1ro de septiembre al 4 de octubre, la comunidad cris-tiana por todo el mundo celebra la Época de la creación al rezar y actuar en unidad para proteger nuestra casa común, la Madre Tie-rra. ¡LA CLÍNICA MÉDICA GRATUITA MOTHER OF MERCY NECESITA VOLUNTARIOS! Por favor ayude a las Caridades

Católicas a ayudar a los pobres al ofrecerse de voluntaria/o – allí o desde la casa – con Mother of Mercy Free Medical Clinics. Las clí-nicas están en Manassas y Woodbridge y proveen cuidado médico gratuito a personas de bajos ingresos que no tienen seguro médico o tienen uno insuficiente. Since most children and teachers there do not have access to a computer or to reliable internet, on-line learning was not an option. Each of the schools in St. Joseph parish reopened several weeks ago, with the goal of completing the 2019/2020 school year by the end of October and starting the 2020/2021 school year shortly thereafter. Père Frantz has installed hand-washing stations at each school; teachers and students are encouraged to wash their hands before class each morning and other times during the day. They are also trying to remain socially distant in the classrooms. Père Frantz, pastor of St. Jo-seph parish, the teachers, and others in the community are doing everything they can to help protect each oth-er from the virus.

NOTICIAS ESCOLARES DE MEDOR Las escuelas por todo Haití cerraron a mediados de marzo por la

pandemia. Debido a que allí la mayoría de los niños y maestros no

tienen acceso a una computadora o a Internet fiable, las clases en

línea no eran una opción. Cada una de las escuelas en la parroquia

St. Joseph volvió a abrir hace varias semanas, con el objetivo de

completar el año escolar 2020/2021 poco después.

literally overwhelmed with new donations and cannot accept anymore. The bins will be closed after this weekend in the hopes of getting a handle on the number of items donated in such a short time. We will reopen the bins for Winter clothing beginning on Saturday, September 19th. We will continue to have Saturday collection for winter clothing from that date on. OLQP ANNUAL SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE -- Thank

you for all your donations – we are almost there! We still need 100 child elementary school size masks, 100 small bottles of hand sanitizer. Please place the donations in the food pantry bins behind Father Ray Hall. This year School Supply Pickup will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis on Thursday, September 3rd from 11:30am to 1:30pm and Sunday, September 6th from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Supplies are limited and half will be distributed each day. Distribution will take place outside in front of Father Ray Hall.

REUSE THOSE GROCERY BAGS! -- We are in real

need of brown paper bags with handles. These help volun-

teers package our foods and give the bags a second life be-

fore recycling. Thank you for working to reduce

waste. Please drop them off during office hours from 10 am

until 2 pm in the food collection bins behind Father Ray

MASS FOR MARRIAGE JUBILARIANS

Celebrating a Silver or Golden Wedding Anniversary

The Mass for those celebrating 25 and 50 years of marriage (married in 1970 and 1995) will be held at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Arlington on Sunday, October 4, at 2:30pm. Bishop Michael Burbidge will be the principal cele-brant and homilist. A light reception of cake and punch with an opportunity for a photograph with Bishop Burbidge will follow in Burke Hall. and DOJ's Civil Rights Division Attorney. He will talk about

voting history and issues that may come up with this elec-

tion. We have asked another speaker to talk about voter

September is Hunger Action Month!
