In this case, I am going to tell you – as its title says – The Truth About Home Based Business.

As in what most gurus know but won’t tell you about that make them richer and you poorer.

But before proceeding, it is very important for me to tell me who I am and why you should

listen to me.

I come from a tiny island of Singapore in Southeast Asia. Despite our country still being

skeptical as in most people when it comes to creativity and running your own business, I still

ended up being an entrepreneur or what I now termed as internetpreneur since I run most of

my businesses and make most of my money online.

I make my money from promoting other people’s products as well as my own and building

websites for my friends in acting and food businesses. And I have been doing this for 7 years

since 2008 though I have to admit the first 2 years are not easy for me.

Though I do make money as a newbie in contrary to what others said, I do get into trouble

with Google and my creditors whom I owed money to run this business.

It was only in 2010 when I do this full time, I am able to focus better and learn from the

actual successful people that mattered that I am able to achieve results that enable me and

my family to live the lives we want.

That is all I can say about myself.

Though some of you may have already known the answer, I am sure that most of you will still

be wondering what is home based business all about?

The first thing that comes to your mind could be MLM or Multi-Level Marketing. That is

perfectly normal since I felt that way too. You might have seen those job ads in papers,

magazines or flyers talking about how lucrative this business is all about and how you can

make up to $3-10K even working part-time.

What I want to say is MLM or Multi-Level Marketing is ONE of the home based business

models but it is NOT the only home based business model.

For those of you who are new to this term, it is basically investing in range of products the

company offers, trying and benefiting from them so that you can share with your families

and friends.

And if they buy, you get paid a fair share of commissions while the company earns the rest

to cut the necessary costs in running this business.

They can be health products or motivational packages. I know this because I was first

introduced to this idea way back in 2000. Initially it was a motivational package of books and

DVDs by successful people or what people defined as gurus.

Such as Anthony Robbins and Robert

Kiyosaki.

With that said, home based business

in a nutshell is working from home.

But MLM is not the only model.

In fact there are many others that

you can consider looking into which I

will explain in the next chapter.

Besides MLM, here are different models of home based business or jobs you may consider if

you don’t like the hassle of traffic jam and morning rush hour just to be in time at work or if

you are a parent wanting to spend more time with kids.

1. Accounting And Clerical Jobs

To be honest, I am not really sure about the current

predicament as I have been out of employment for a very

long time.

But from what I learn from papers and TV news, most

companies are now outsourcing those jobs rather than

hiring workers to come and work at their offices.

With mobile apps like WhatsApp, Skype, Google Hangouts

and other social media platforms like Facebook, communication can be done online be it in desktops,

laptops and mobile devices like tablets and Iphones.

2. Giving Tuition

Though I am not at all keen, most Singaporeans –

including my late dad – saw this as a lucrative way of

making money.

Giving tuition does not have to be done at tuition centers.

It can be done at your place or other parents’ home.

So long as you have the knowledge and relevant

qualifications in subjects that children need to improve

upon, you can teach them and get paid very good money

for investing your time.

3. Writing And Publishing Books Or Comics

This is my all-time favourite though this idea might

sound crazy way back in the 80s and 90s.

I started doing this when I was just 11 and still doing it now though I have not yet made

profits from writing fiction books yet.

But writing and publishing books is what got me started into internet marketing after my

books got rejected by local publisher and I went online to look for new fresh ideas.

Besides books, you can also draw comics as well.

3. Web And Graphics Design

This is my other favourite.

If you can build websites and do graphics as

well be it banners, logos or visual arts, you

can also make very good money from those.

In fact, the commissions can potentially be

much higher than the first two.

4. Interior Design

Interior design is just as lucrative as web and

graphics design.

You called people from either Yellow Pages and generated leads online from social media sites

like Facebook through advertising – asking them

whether they are going to buy new homes and

need your services and consultation on this.

However one thing I need to alert you is you

only get paid when you or the workers you

employed completed the necessary task.

But you can still ask for a deposit of depending

how much you want to charge your client.

5. Renting Out Your Rooms

Though this is what our government encouraged

us to do in worse case scenarios, I am not fully

supportive of this.

Reason is because tenants might delay paying

rent due to various reasons and excuses.

With that said, these are some of the home based business models that you can consider

looking into.

However, the ONE business model I highly recommend and what I am still doing now and

making good money is –

Affiliate Marketing

Also considered as part of internet marketing,

affiliate marketing is when you promote other

people’s products for commissions.

They can be info products like home study

courses of ebooks, videos and software.

They can also be physical products like things

you and I buy everyday from shops and malls.

Or just CPA offers which you get paid simply for generating leads for the merchant or

company.

However in order to make a full time living from it say if your aim is to earn $1-2K per month,

you need to be promoting a lot of products to meet your financial goal.

Or promoting the same product or service to a lot of people like what you do in traditional

sales and marketing.

Let me ask you a question.

What if you can promote just ONE product to ONE person and assuming if that person is

interested to buy, you can earn anywhere from $1000, $3000 to even $5000 commissions?

And the best part is you don’t have to do any selling or marketing presentations.

All you need to do is just send traffic to an offer that is already converting well and the

marketing team will handle the rest for you be it following up with your prospects and

turning them into raving customers.
