The Trumpeter From the Pastor The longest day has come and gone. The fireworks have been going off officiallyfor a few days now. Sev- eral of you and I are Facebook friends. Those of you with pets—especially dogs—are not so fond of the noise associated with the new fireworks law in Iowa. I empa- thize with you, but am also concerned about the potential for serious accidents with young and old victims. If you are shooting fireworks, please be careful and watch your children carefully!! Once again Im really looking forward to going to Lutheran Lakeside Camp with some of our younger members and their par- ents the morning of July 10 for Gods Little Sprouts. This will be the third year we have done this. I think this is a marvelous way to intro- duce the kids and parents to the camp! From Lakeside, Ill be traveling north to attend the Region 3 As- sociation of Lutheran Church Musicians Conference in Minneapolis July 10-13. Im looking forward to this excellent continuing education offering. Im so happy to welcome our new Office Administrator, Bobbi Laskowske. Please see her article on page 3 of this edition of The Trumpeter. Remember that even when we are on vacation, the bills contin- ue to be sent to Augustana. Please make arrangements for your offerings to be received while you are gone. Blessings to all for a happy and safe summer! Evangelism Notes Let’s start with a one-question multiple

choice test. Who is responsible for carrying out an active and well-rounded evangelism program?

The pastor

The staff

The congregation council

Myself

The Evangelism Mission Team

Every member

All of the above Naturally, the best alternative is the final

response. Sometimes when everyone is re-sponsible, no one is. Let’s do our part!

New Office Administrator II am a resident of Kingsley, IA with my husband, Fred. I have 2 children (boy/girl twins), 1 step-daughter, 8 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter with another on the way. I grew up in South Sioux City, then graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1964. I went to NBT Col-lege and received a degree in Executive Secretary. In 1995 I graduated from Wayne State College with a BS in Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology. My husband and I met roller skating and enjoyed that until a few years ago. During the 1990s I coached roller skating as well as speed skating for the Special Olympics. I enjoy crocheting and working with the Girl Scouts. I am happy to be at Augustana and look forward to meeting you. Please feel free to come in and say hello. Bobbi (Williams) Laskowske.

Vacation Bible School “The Jesus Way” This is the theme for our Vacation Bible School which will be held July 17-20 from 5:30-7:30. The children will learn how to be followers of Jesus Christ. We will study four of Jesus' acts: feeding, forgiving, loving our neighbor, and pray-ing. Jesus calls out to us, "Follow me! Learn from me. Watch!" We will play games, make crafts, hear sto-ries, and learn songs. Each day we will start with a snack. On the Thursday evening, July 20th, at 7 PM we invite members of the congregation to join us for s'mores and songs. Plan to come and have fun learning about how we can be disciples.

Stewardship Corner Attendance often decreases during

the summer months. Financial giving al-so tends to decrease.

That is not Christian stewardship! We still have ministry to do and bills to pay. We don’t pay dues to belong to the Church; instead we do have the oppor-tunity to give thanks to God for all God’s blessings as we give back to God a por-tion of what God has first given us.

Going to miss a Sunday? Bring two week’s of offerings the week before. You could mail your offering to us.

Having your offerings sent to the church through an electronic funds trans-fer (EFT) is an easy and convenient way to ensure that your offering gets to the church on the schedule you choose. One option is called Simply Giving. Check out this link to get more details or call the office for more information.

Please, don’t let your financial stew-ardship go on vacation with you.

Directory Change Please update Curt and DeeAnn Sales’ phone number to 253-5892.

WIS Discipleship Academy The Western Iowa Synod of the ELCA has had a program of educating lay people for seventeen years.

Formerly called the Western Iowa Synod Lay School, it is now known as the Western Iowa Synod Disciple-ship Academy. Please consider the following questions:

Do you have a desire to learn more about the Bible, Lutheran theology, God’s mission and the work of Christ’s Church?

Do you wonder how you can use your God-given gifts to impact God’s mission in the church, community and world around you? Do you feel called to serve in a deeper and broader way?

The “normal” program is two years long. Year One is called “Book of Faith” and explores the Bible and the Lutheran Confessions. Year Two is called “Life of Faith” and explores missional leadership and spiritual gifts.

Additional classes currently offered are “Worship: Planning and Lead-ing” (taught by Pastor Del), “Congregational Care” (taught by several teachers and facilitated by Jane Olivier), and “Preaching Mark.” Pastor Del also teaches a workshop on “The Theology of the Cross” and there is a class on Spiritual Direction which is taught by other pastors. More information can be found on the WIS website www.wisynod.org or on the bulletin board next to Pastor’s study.
