Adult Choir Musical

“The First Noel”

December 13 at 6:00 PM One of the most familiar carols of this season is a song of French origin that is centuries old. Its verses re-tell the en-tire Christmas story and they encourage us to give thanks to God for the incredible gift of His Son to be our Savior. The word “Noel” mean Christmas, but it is also like singing “happy birthday.” And what better way could there be to

welcome our Lord than to join in singing a birthday song that celebrates His coming to earth! Invite your friends to come hear this wonderful story through song!

at 6:00 PM

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

November 30—December 6, 2015

Just who was Lottie Moon?

Charlotte Diggs Moon (Lottie) was born December 12, 1840 in Viewmont, Virginia. She was only 4 feet, 3 inches tall as an adult—that’s really short! She grew up on a tobacco plantation too. She had four sisters and two brothers. She was 13 when her dad died in a riverboat accident. At 14, Lottie went to an all girls school and then on to an all girls college. She was one of the first women to receive a degree from college. She spoke many languages: Latin, Greek, French, Italian and Spanish. She could also read Hebrew. When she was 18, after a series of revival meetings at college, she dedicated her life to Jesus. Lottie became a teacher and started working with poor people in Georgia. Her younger sister became a missionary to China in 1872 and Lottie became a missionary to China the next year. She was 33 years old. As a missionary, she taught school and told people everywhere about Jesus. At first she wore her American clothes in China but soon realized that if she dressed like the Chinese, they would better accept her and trust her as a friend. She started acting like a Chinese person too. At the age of 45, she stopped teaching and devoted herself to telling others about Jesus. She wrote lots of letters just like Annie Armstrong asking for money, more missionaries to be sent. She came home to the USA in 1892 and again in 1902. There was a lot of war in China while Lottie was there and many people were starving. Lottie would share her food and money with the Chinese and in 1912, she only weighed 50 pounds. Lottie became very sick and died on the way home on a ship to America. She is buried in Virginia. Her life was one dedicated to the furtherance of the Gospel, and through it, many people came to know Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Today the offering is still used to further the Gospel by funding international missionaries.
