Trinity Bell Volume 14, Issue 3 Newsletter of Trinity Episcopal Church May/June 2016
The vision of Trinity Church is to be relevant to the Lake Region Community serving and drawing others to the gospel of Jesus Christ as a growing Episcopal Church.
A Word from Father Tony
New Era of Growth In Our Diocese
There’s much in the News about the
demise of Christianity in the West, the
rise of secularism in the U.S.A., the
shrinking numbers in our Churches, (not just Episcopali-
ans!) With aging congregations and a lack of youth and
young families, many priests and laity alike are asking
whether we are indeed a dying denomination.
Not in the Diocese of Florida! While we certainly face
difficult challenges, our Bishop, clergy and laity are
committed to strengthening and growing congregations!
In a very recent communiqué to the clergy, Bishop
Howard writes,
“I am excited by the possibility of real growth – spiritu-
ally and numerically – and I am hopeful that the Spirit
of God will lead us to find new ways to work together.
The process will begin at the grassroots in our Diocese,
as we talk and visit. As I said at convention, this initia-
tive for growth belongs to all of us together and not to
just a few. Our aim is to ensure that we achieve a model
of "being Church" which will carry us into a new era for
our Diocese.”
To that end, the Bishop and the Diocese are committing
resources for education, training and empowering con-
gregations to take the steps necessary to achieve the
goal to grow our churches, both “spiritually and numeri-
cally.” What we need at Trinity are new and brave ideas
to make ourselves known in the community and open
our doors wide through programs that make a differ-
ence.
I invite you to stay in touch with the many offerings of
the Diocese and support Trinity as we seek new oppor-
tunities to reach out and “be church” in our community.
Please keep Trinity, her staff and Vestry in your prayers
and ask God what you can do to continue to make Trinity
more inviting. Help us to fulfill our dreams to be a dynam-
ic, sustainable church; focused on the loving God we know
through Jesus, dedicated to loving others as he first loved
us. May we be leaders in this new era of growth in our
Diocese.
Warmly, Tony+
The Next First Sunday is:
May 1, 2016
One Service at 10:00am
Potluck Lunch will follow the service.
On May 15, 2016
The Bishop will be here and it’s the
Day of Pentecost
One Service at 10:00am
Lunch will follow the service.
BISHOP HOWARD WILL
BE WITH US
The Bishop is the only one who can,
with the laying on of hands, confirm
members. Bishop Howard will be with
us on Sunday, May 15th, which is also
the Day of Pentecost (wear some red clothes) and there
will be only one service that day at 10:00am.
If you are interested in being Confirmed, Affirming your
baptismal vows, or being received into the Episcopal
Church (if you are coming from another denomination)
please talk with Father Tony. He has started an Inquirer’s
class (it’s not too late to join) between the services so eve-
ryone will be ready when the Bishop is here in May. There
is a book, “Those Episcopals” that goes along with the
class and Fr. Tony will see that you receive one.

LITTLE REMINDERS
It’s only two months until our Good Old Summertime Chicken
Dinner and Basket Auction! There’s always much anticipation
about what amazingly interesting baskets we’ll have each year. So, put
on your thinking caps and see what wonderfully unique ideas you can
come up with to dazzle and surprise everyone.
And, now is the time to root new plants so they will be ready for the Fall
Bazaar in Nov. We could also use some jams and pickles this year.
GIGGLESOME
Attending a wedding for the first time, a little girl whispered to her moth-
er, 'Why is the bride dressed in white?'' The mother replied, 'Because
white is the color of happiness, and today is the happiest day of her life.'
The child thought about this for a moment then said, 'So then why is the
groom wearing black?'

NOTES FROM THE SENIOR WARDEN
In my annual report to the congregation, I mentioned the ministry review we conducted last
year and the areas of laity ministry we felt needed attention. The areas identified were - music
at the services, communication, evangelism and stewardship. I said we would let you know our
plans as we reached consensus on the improvements.
The communication committee has met and recommended the following.
Encourage all groups/ministries to increase their communication efforts to the
congregation and each other.
Encourage better communication between the groups/ministries in the church
and the office.
Post updated phone numbers in the parish hall kitchen. ( This is forthcoming)
E-mail Colossians to all members on Monday morning. (E-mailing this ensures
that everyone receives Father Tony's message and calendar info weekly. This
is currently being done.)
Improve Trinity's presence on Facebook. (Father Tony is working on this.)
Change the Bell from a montlly to a bi-monthly newsletter. (Doing this will reduce postage
and printing expense, as well as time and effort spent printing, folding and posting the Bell.
Calendar info is always available in Colossians and the servers schedule is posted in the parish
hall, on the Trinity website and is e-mailed to servers. The Vestry agreed to do this for 6 months
and evaluate it.)
We hope to be paperless by 2017 as far as the “Bell” is concerned. We will continue to mail the
Bell to those without computer or printer access, but for all others it will be done electronically.
Improve the maintanance and accuracy of the directory. We are working with Lifetouch,
a company that provides photo directories free of charge to organizations they are
working with, and a free 8x10 picture to each person or family who has their picture taken for
the directory. They will help us create a directory that showcases Trinity and our members and
promotes our ministries. They also provide opportunities for you to have a second picture taken
with family members and/or pets.
The preceeding recommendations will help provide clarity to our communication efforts at
Trinity Our hope is that all will be aware of the needs, activities and accomplishments at
Trinity and will be able to access those with whom they wish to communicate.
The other areas of needed improvement will be addressed in future Bells.
Blessings to all,
Donna
NEW PHOTOS FOR OUR DIRECTORY
Please read the article above regarding our new pictures. You can sign up for a time on May 17 or 18 be-
tween noon and 7:00pm with Virginia on Sunday, or in the office. If you would like to have a picture
with seven or more people or with pets, please sign up for two times.

NEWS FROM THE MEN’S CLUB
The Trinity Men's Club has been busy this year, and has become an organized ministry of
Trinity Church with our constitution and bylaws. After a couple of successful fundraisers, we have
now begun a mission of helping others in our church and community.
Recently, several members were able to assist the owner of the Melrose Assisted Living Facil-
ity with repairs to their septic system; shovels in hand and guided by an expert volunteer, we replaced
the drain field on a Saturday. We also noted a water leak near the highway and found a volunteer to
correct that issue.
OUTREACH AND LAKE AREA MINISTRIES
All of the canned goods collected today and on every first Sunday go to support LAM.
As a part of our outreach to LAM, we have a food distribution team which works there on the 3rd Mon-
day of each month from 9:45am until 2:00pm. The team helps to pull food items from the different are-
as (freezer, canned goods, and personal items) for the clients who come for help. Working as a team
can be a time of fellowship as well as helping others. Most months we have different teams of three
or four people who serve. During the summer, with people on vacation, we are in need of more people
to serve LAM. If you are willing to use your time and talents for this outreach ministry, even occasion-
ally, please call Bob Tickel who is coordinating our schedule. Thank you!

CURSILLO - CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations to John Katterhenry who has been chosen to be the next Rector (leader) of the
October Men’s team. John has also chosen Clay O’Neal to be the head of Set-Up for that team.
Please keep them and the work they do in your prayers. Cursillo is a three-day learning, shar-
ing, inspirational experience of living. Its purpose is to deepen our spiritual relationship with God and to
help those in the church understand their individual callings to be Christian Leaders. The leadership may
be exercised in work situations, and environments. Leadership, in Cursillo, does not mean power over oth-
ers, but influence on others; all of us need to be aware that we can exert a positive influence on those
around us. Ultreyas are opportunities for those who have attended a weekend to come together with mu-
sic, a good meal and fun to share how God has been working in the family and social life, in leisure activi-
ties, and within the Church.
Page 7 Trinity Bell May/June 2016
Greetings, This month I offer the following reading for your consideration.
Everyone is Worthy of God’s Love – Br. James Koester
Luke 5: 27-32
I don’t know if you’ve ever noticed, but there is a lot of eating and drinking that goes on in scripture.
The Bible is full of stories of meals, celebrations and parties where food and drink play a key role. We
see this in Genesis where Abraham and Sarah entertain three angelic visitors. We see it again in Revela-
tion where the Lord stands at the door knocking, waiting to be invited in so that He can dine with you.
We see it in the gospels where one of the first things Jesus does in John’s gospel is attend a wedding. It
happens again today where Jesus in invited to a meal at the home of Levi, whom we call Matthew.
Stripped of everything else, scripture would still be incredibly rich if all we had were stories about food.
Leave out the healings and miracles, the poetry and the prophecy, the Bible would still be full of good
news if all we had were stories about food and fellowship. Because like the healings and miracles, the
poetry and the prophecy, stories of food and fellowship point beyond themselves. They point to a differ-
ent reality, because they point not just to the meal we read about, but the meal for which we all long: the
banquet promised to all God’s people in heaven.
So meals in scripture, like this meal we celebrate at the Eucharist, are glimpses, not of ancient eating
customs but of the promise and reality of heaven where none will be left out, where none will be left
hungry, where none will be left alone.
We get a glimpse of this today not just in the gospel but in this circle. Luke makes a point of telling us
that Jesus eats with the vilest of the vile: tax collectors, the despised collaborators of Roman imperial-
ism. In fact Luke hammers this point in, by saying it twice. It would seem that Jesus was not fussy about
who he ate with. He was prepared to eat with anyone because everyone is worthy of God’s love.
That’s the good news we discover in the stories of food and fellowship that we find in the pages of scrip-
ture. Everyone is worthy of God’s love. That’s the good news we discover again today as we gather
around this Table for this Meal. Everyone is worthy of God’s love. And that’s the good news we will
celebrate eternally when we are all gathered around the heavenly banqueting table. Everyone is worthy
of God’s love.
I don’t know about you, but that’s something I constantly need to be reminded of. That just as God will
welcome me to that heavenly banquet, so will God welcome those who I don’t think should be there,
because everyone, yes everyone, even the vilest of the vile, is worthy of God’s love. We see it today
lived out, not just in the pages of scripture where Jesus eats with tax collectors and sinners, but we see it
too in this circle as Jesus sits down to dine with us, because everyone is worthy of God’s love: you and
me, the person next to you, and the person across from you, whom you may never have seen before. No
matter who you are, where you are from, or what you have done, we are all worthy of God’s love.
