December 13 and 14, 2018

Minesing/December 6, 2018 – Sleigh bells ring, are you listening? Discover the magic of an old-fashioned Victorian Christmas at the Simcoe County Museum on December 13 and 14, 2018 from 6 to 9 p.m. Listen to festive holiday music and embrace the Christmas spirit as you sample unique seasonal treats, and experience what Christmas looked like during the Victorian era. Stroll the lantern-lit pathways and Heritage Buildings as you explore Simcoe County’s festive past. Listen to sleigh bells and feel the crisp winter air on your face as a horse-drawn wagon takes you on a journey through our beautiful forest. Visit the vendor booths for hand-made gifts and food items. Victorian Christmas is guaranteed to get the whole family into the holiday spirit! Once again, County of Simcoe Paramedic Services will be onsite to collect toys for local children. Guests can also support Barrie and District Christmas Cheer by purchasing a charming hand-made bowl from the Empty Bowls program. Admission to the event is by donation with proceeds going to the Friends of the Simcoe County Museum. The Friends of the Simcoe County Museum support the programs and services offered by the Museum through the proceeds raised from this event, as well as other initiatives that occur during the year. Peter Kenyon: Bio-data SummaryPeter Kenyon is a social capitalist and community enthusiast. Over the last four decades he has worked with more than 2000 communities throughout Australia and overseas seeking tofacilitate fresh and creative ways that stimulate community and local economic renewal. Heis motivated by the desire to create healthy, caring, inclusive, connected, sustainable andenterprising communities and local economies.

Peter has had a background as a youth worker, teacher, youth education officer, tertiarylecturer and senior public servant. His employment experiences have included Director ofEmployment in Western Australia, Manager of the Community Employment Development Unitin New Zealand and Coordinator of the Natal Kwazulu Job Creation and Enterprise Strategy inSouth Africa.

Peter is convinced that one cannot develop communities from the top down or from the outside in. It requirescommunities to build from the inside out, and for their members to invest themselves, ideas, assets and resources in theprocess. Peter created the Bank of I.D.E.A.S. (Initiatives for the Development of Enterprising Action and Strategies) topromote such a paradigm shift and assist with the necessary facilitation, ideas and skills.

Peter's consulting work has resulted in assignments in 59 countries and all states of Australia. From 2004, Peter has spentpart of each year working in a range of Middle East and/or North African countries assisting with the development ofnational youth policies and strategies.

Peter has authored 16 publications within the fields of community and economic development, youth policydevelopment and youth enterprise, including the following diverse set of titles –

Officers handed out items from the OPP and community partners to help raise the awareness that Impaired Driving is Impaired Driving regardless if impairment is by drug or alcohol. A special roadside presentation was made by a representative of MADD to recognize the work of OPP Sgt. A. Thompson and a young college student from Bracebridge in making our roadways a safer place to drive. All members of the local media were in attendance to cover the kick off and do their part in getting the message to drivers across North Simcoe using their communication platforms. OPP officers conduct R.I.D.E. programs all year round but at this festive time of year when social events are very prevalent, an extra push is made to remind drivers to make the right choice and never drive impaired. FESTIVE RIDE CAMPAIGN AS MUCH ABOUT DRIVING UNDER INFLUENCE OF DRUGS AS ALCOHOL

OPP Launches Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Campaign (November 23 ‐ January 2, 2019) (ORILLIA, ON) ‐ Heading into the first Festive RIDE campaign since the legalization of non‐medical cannabis, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding drivers that they are as prepared to deal with drug‐impaired drivers over the holidays as those who are alcohol‐impaired. So far this year (2018), alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the deaths of 39 people on OPP‐patrolled roads. From January 1 to mid‐October 2018, (the OPP's latest data) the OPP laid more than 6,700 impaired driving charges across the province, 283 of which were impaired by drugs. "Drivers who consume cannabis and think they can avoid detection by the OPP need to think again. The OPP has a strong set of tools and skills that enable them to take drug and alcohol‐impaired drivers off our roads. Whether a person is driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, impaired is impaired. Both forms are dangerous, serious criminal offences and they carry similar penalties." ‐ Interim Deputy Commissioner Rose DiMarco, Provincial Commander of Traffic Safety and Operational Support. "Make no mistake ‐ just because recreational cannabis has been legalized doesn't mean you can drive while under the influence. The OPP's Standardized Field Sobriety Test‐trained officers and Drug Recognition Experts have been in place for years and continue to prove effective in identifying drug‐impaired drivers. Novice, young (under 22) and commercial vehicle drivers cannot have any alcohol or drugs in their system while driving. When transporting cannabis in a vehicle, it must be in its original package that has not been opened, or it can be packaged in baggage that is fastened closed or is not otherwise readily available to any person in the vehicle. Following the media conference officers from OPP HSD as well as OPP Central Region will conduct the first R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) check of the campaign.
