My Dear Friends,
Today is the feast day of the Most Holy Body
and Blood of our Lord, also commonly called
Corpus Christi. Today many churches
throughout the United States will be wit-
nessing to their Catholic faith in a very
Catholic manner when they process through cities and
towns with the Blessed Sacrament in a Eucharistic
Procession. It is one of the main devotions, if not the
preeminent devotion, that showcases who we are as
Catholic. It is an act of faith on our part as Catholics to
process with the Eucharistic Lord and to worship our
Eucharistic Lord in adoration while present in the mon-
strance. Today, the cluster parishes will process as we
do every year, beginning at 1:30 pm from St. Mary’s.
Please join us as we process from St. Mary’s to Sacred
Heart, then to St. Francis and finishing at St. Peter’s.
Our world and our state and especially our city need
our witness of our Catholic faith and our love for our
Eucharistic Lord. And for those who are interested,
there is a plenary indulgence connected to anyone who
walks in Eucharistic procession on the feast of Corpus
Christi; of course, this indulgence, like all plenary in-
dulgences, requires confession within seven days,
communion on the actual day and prayers for the Pope
on the actual day.
Jesus Christ is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament,
and when we in faith process with our Lord, we receive
many graces and blessings for our cluster parishes and
for our families. Please join us as we honor and wor-
ship our Lord in our annual Eucharistic procession.
We also honor this weekend the men and women who
have made the ultimate sacrifice and have given their
body and soul to the defense of our country. On this
Memorial Day, let us pray for all of our soldiers who
have died. May God bless our country and may we as a
country honor God in our thoughts, words and deeds,
especially those connected to our Catholic faith. God
bless.

MAY COLLECTION for the FOODBANKS
One in seven Connecticut residents has reported that they did not have enough money to buy the food that they and their families needed at least once during the past 12 months. (www.gallup.com Gallup poll released Aug. 21, 2012) You can help area food banks feed the hungry in our community by donating a non-perishable food item to our monthly food collections. Items such as PASTA, PASTA SAUCE, RICE, TUNA, MAC & CHEESE, CANNED FRUITS AND VEGETABLES, BEANS, PEANUT BUTTER, JELLY and CEREAL may be left at any of the 4 parishes the week-end of May 28th-29th. Gift cards to area grocery stores are also greatly appreciated. Many stores donate additional items when food banks make purchases with gift cards. Thank you for your continued support.

Defending Our Religious Liberty #223 June 5, 2016 The United States Conference for Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is proud to
announce the fourth annual “Fortnight for Freedom,” beginning on June 21
through July 4th. This year’s theme is “Witnesses to Freedom” which will put
the spotlight on the many people who have been witness to religious free-
dom including the “Little Sisters of the Poor,” who continue their valiant fight
to protect the First Amendment right to religious freedom, for all of us. For
more information, visit: www.Fortnight4Freedom.org.
If you haven’t done so already, please voice your opposition to the federal health care mandate by calling U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Ser-vices Sylvia Mathews Burwell at 202-205-5445, and your elected state rep-resentatives. Let them know that the mandate is in violation of our First Amendment right to religious freedom.

Sponsoring a teen to attend Steubenville East...
This year we have 20 students attending the Steubenville East Youth Conference
July 15-17 at the UMASS Lowell The cost for one student to attend including trans-
portation and misc. expenses is $300. We ask families to pay half... and we do our best,
through fundraising, to make ends meet. However several of our teens are in need of full tuition assistance, as we would never
deny any student the opportunity to attend due to lack of funds.
If you are able to help in any way, make checks to St. Peter Church and mail to:
160 Main Street Torrington, CT 06790 or you can drop it in the collection basket marked
"Steubenville East Donation". Even the smallest donation is greatly
appreciated. We thank you for your continuous support
financially and through your prayers.
