Where did it all begin?
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” Genesis 1:1
In today’s modern world, with a supposedly enhanced “scientific” mindset, we are bombarded with many different theories of how it all began. In order to combat this evolutionary mindset, we are going to look at the only true way, the Word of God, during our STYLE week and our summer camp program. When Christians try to make God’s Word conform to these “scientific” mindsets, they set the stage for compromise. This often leads to rejection of
the basic doctrines of the Bible, which is clearly evident in our society today. We want to take this opportunity to teach young people that the Bible can be trusted and that it is the literal Word of God which will give them a more solid foundation for their life.
Our week of STYLE (Spiritually Training Youth for Life’s Encounters) will be June 15-20. It will give high school students a taste of college life at Southland, while also giving them an opportunity to see what God’s Word says about creation, how it all began, and why it is important in their lives today. This year the cost is $100.00 and will include a trip to the Creation Museum.
The impact of a week of SUMMER CAMP on a young person’s life cannot be overstated. One week of camp can lead not only to a salvation decision, but also lead young people to dedicate their lives to the Lord and better prepare them to serve Him. Camp Evangel is a camp that has stood for the Lord and His Word for many years. It is encouraging to hear parents that have called for information tell of their days at camp and the decisions that they made as campers.
Please pray that lives will be changed through our summer ministries. We desire that young people come to know the Lord, dedicate their lives to Him, and have a desire to serve Him. More literature has been given out this year than ever before. Pray with us that it will bear much fruit and many will come to camp and to Southland where we provide “Training that Prepares for Service.” For more information, please check out our websites listed on the back page of this newsletter.

Celebrating 50 years of Ministry
Miss Roberta “Bobbi” Frye
Miss Frye has been part of the Southland family since the fall of 1998. She
came to us from Atlanta, GA where she had been serving with BCM
International for over 15 years. Previously, she had served in Brazil and
Jamaica as a missionary as well as with CEF. She had been used of the
Lord not only to teach children, but to train others in children’s ministry as
well. Because of her previous experience and great burden to help train
others to become effective servants of our Lord, her friends, Dr. & Mrs.
Keith Wiebe (pastor of Grace Gospel Church in Huntington, WV) recommended Southland to her. Up until
last year, she actively taught in the Christian Education Department and held several teacher training
seminars. Last year the Lord saw fit to give her another challenge and she spent most of the year in
treatment for breast cancer, and she is still recuperating from that. Her personal plans for the future, Lord
willing, are to continue teaching and sharing what the Lord has taught her over the years with younger
people who can pick up the torch and carry on — a multiplication process. Please pray that the Lord will
strengthen her physically after her bout with cancer — to be able to serve Him well.
FULL-TIME PERMANENT WORKERS ARE NEEDED AT BOTH SOUTHLAND AND CAMP
EVANGEL, ESPECIALLY IN THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENTS. PLEASE PRAY THAT THE
LORD WILL BURDEN HEARTS FOR THIS GREAT HARVEST FIELD.
Our Newest Candidates - Brian & Tabitha Tegeler Sometimes God’s answers to prayer are right before our eyes. Such is the case with our newest candidates
for ministry. Brian grew up around Camp Evangel, the grandson of
Rev. Carl Tegeler. He started out as a camper and worked up
through the summer staff program and has been active even in
recent years. Because of the influence of camp, he went on to study
the camping ministry at Appalachian Bible College before earning his
Criminal Justice degree through Bluefield College. Tabitha started
working at camp five years ago, met Brian, and after they were
married in 2012, continued to serve at camp. She was raised in a
pastor’s family, the daughter of Richard and Joy Smith, and was
given a solid Biblical foundation for her life. She has a degree in
Elementary Education, but presently is a stay at home mom for their
daughter, Jade Marguerite, born on Christmas Eve.
Brian and Tabitha both have a heart for Camp Evangel and have a desire to see the camp grow, and more
children brought to Christ. Their goal and prayer is to be able to promote Camp Evangel full time in the local
community and in various churches, raising awareness of the ministry and seeking more partners to come
aboard and support not only them, but the ministry in general. In order to do that, the Board of Directors has
set their minimum support level at $2,550.00. This will allow Brian to leave his secular job and spend more
time reaching out to others and promoting camp. They will both work at camp as time allows and will assume
more and more responsibility there. Please uphold them in your prayers during their deputation. If you would
like them to visit your church or would like to help with their support, please contact them at (276) 202-3557
or by email at [email protected].
Memorial Gifts are an excellent way to remember your loved ones that will bring glory to God and have a lasting impact for eternity. They go far beyond any other traditional means of remembrance and help enrich
the lives of countless people. If you would like to remember someone this way, please make your check payable to Southland Bible Institute and it will be used in our “training that prepares for service.”

Urgent Needs for Southland and Camp Evangel As things deteriorate over time, it becomes necessary to replace or repair them. Such is the case with many of our machines and buildings. While our insurance covered some of the roof damage we sustained last fall, it did not provide enough to cover the cost of replacing them. Our main office copier has been torn up for the past year and we cannot get it repaired because it is so old. We have relied on a backup copier that is not as good as we would like to see for our classroom and publicity needs. Our mandatory fire alarm system is old and cannot be repaired because of its age. At camp, the go carts are one of the main attractions, but they are wearing out and we need to begin replacing them. All of these things become expenses that we cannot afford on our regular income. Would you like to have a part in helping us provide these needs?
