The Tool Box Repeat as needed… 1. We are not bad people trying to get good, but sick people trying to get better. 2 First things first. 3 Pain is necessary, misery is optional. 4 Keep it simple. 5 Principals before personalities. 6 Substitute a negative thought with a positive one. 7 To drink is not an option today. 8 I am responsible for my thought life today. 9 H.A.L.T. Don't get too hungry, too angry, too lonely, or too tired. 10 You won't get drunk if you don't take a drink. 11 I can't control people, places, or things. 12 Can I bring something good to the situation? 13 Let GOD worry, because he can and I can't. 14 I am utterly powerless over alcohol or any mind altering substances. 15 Am I practicing character assassination? , or practicing Live and Let Live? 16 I am my own problem. 17 Do I know today what my motives are? 18 Acceptance, the key to Life on Life's terms. 19 Stick with the winners. (The people working the program) 20 Today I try not to beat myself up. No one works a perfect program. 21 Helping or thinking of someone other than myself always helps me get up off the pity pot. 22 You can be on the right track, but if you sit down, you can can still get run over. 23 Don't take yourself too seriously. 24 I am responsible for my emotional stability and happiness today. 25 I am responsible for my thought life. 26 Worry causes one to forget Who is really in charge. (GOD) 27 Gratitude lists are daily helpers. 28 What am I doing to stay sober today? 29 Do I see what my fear is when I'm angry? 30 Do I listen for my Higher Power speaking to me through other people? 31 Do I share solutions in meetings when I experience them? 32 Am I trying to live in the solution today, or am I still digging the ditch deeper? 33 Are my words or actions hurting others today? (Am I watchful not to hurt another's growth?) 34 GOD didn't bring me this far to leave me! 35 I can plan plans, but not the outcome. 36 There aren't any big deals today! 37 The quality of my problems are much better now than they were!!! 38 My part is to improve the present moment. 39 Decide the kind of day you're going to have when you start it. 40 Start your day when ever you need to. 41 Am I living in the present moment? or trying to live in the future, or the past? (Affects my present attitude and outlook on what is really going on around me) 42 Make a gratitude list. 43 Do I talk to my sponser? Or do I think I've done well handling my life. 44 It works if you work it. 45 Coming to AA was no coincidence. 46 Did I ask my Higher Power to stay sober today? Did I thank Him last night?
