A Message from the
Principal
Dear Titan Parents,
It is hard to believe that we are already into the final
six weeks of this first semester. The beginning of this
year has been great, but we are expecting even greater
things as the year progresses. The staff at BMMS has been working really hard
to incorporate engaging qualities into activities for our students. As I walk
through the classrooms, I am impressed with the increased level of technology
instilled into the lessons across all grade levels. Great things are happening in
the classrooms at BMMS. I want to encourage all parents to be actively
involved in your child’s success at BMMS. As you value your child’s
education, education will be important to your child. One way that you can
become involved is to sign up for and use the Home Access Center (HAC).
HAC is the easiest way for parents to view assignments and grades for their
students. Parents may also view and update their child’s information. For more
information on HAC, please contact Mrs. Jackie Martin at (940) 369-1513.
Another way to be actively involved is to establish positive relationships with
the teachers at BMMS. The communication between home and school is
essential to student academic achievement. Our dedicated and committed staff
can be reached via telephone at (940) 369-1500 or by accessing the Bettye
Myers Middle School website. Finally, I want to encourage parents to GET
INVOLVED. As parents become involved in their child’s school, research
shows that your child will achieve at higher levels, attend school more often,
and have a positive attitude toward school. Our PTA is a great way for parents
to become involved at BMMS. We greatly appreciate BMMS’s PTA and their
dedication, support, and energy as they work to benefit all of the students at
BMMS.
Please review our website, under student activities, for the numerous ways for
students to become involved. It is our goal to have EVERY student at BMMS
involved in at least 1 extra-curricular activity. An involved student is an
engaged and successful student. Some of the activities happening this 6 weeks
include; BMMS’s dedication (11/14), Rachel’s Challenge (11/18), Scholastic
Book Fair, Winter Concerts, and Basketball and Cross Country meets.
It’s a great day to be a Titan!

COUNSELING
DEPARTMENT NEWS
Rachel’s Challenge
Rachel’s Challenge exists to equip and inspire individuals to replace acts of
violence, bullying and negativity with acts of respect, kindness and
compassion. Rachel’s Challenge is based on the life and writings of Rachel
Joy Scott who was the first victim of the Columbine school shootings in
1999. Through her example, Rachel’s Challenge is making a positive impact
in the lives of millions of people every year (Rachel’s Challenge, 2013). The
Rachel’s Challenge Program will provide a foundation as we develop the
BETTYE MEYERS WAY of treating others with kindness, dignity and
respect.
On November 18, 2013, we will host two student assemblies, a student
training and one community event. The Rachel’s Challenge community
event will be held in the Myers gymnasium from 6 pm – 7 pm. For
additional information, please contact the BMMS Counseling Department.
Partners in Parenting
BMMS Counseling Department hosted a
Partners in Parenting meeting on October

Success! Parents were provided with an
overview of campus resources. Crystal
Sullivan, technology specialist, presented information regarding the
technology tools used in the classrooms. Our registrar, Jackie Martin,
provided parents with Home Access Assistance in the computer lab. For
more information, please visit the Partners in Parenting webpage! We
enjoyed meeting our Titan Parents and we are looking forward to the next

PTA Reflections Art Contest is now open for entries!
Each year the PTA hosts a nationwide student Art contest that accepts entries for six different categories:
Visual Arts
Dance Choreography
Music Composition
Literature
Film Production
Photography
The theme this year is ……….
“Believe, Dream, Inspire”
Entries will be due November 19th to the front office and an art showing with awards will be hosted at the school for all of Myers
entries on December 5th. Top entries will move on to the District competition. All entries should include an official entry form.
We are excited to host this Contest at Myers and hope to see some great work submitted!
A student may submit any number of entries. Each category has its own rules and guidelines. It is important that the art work
relate to the theme. What do you think about when you hear these words? , What do you dream about? , What inspires you? Create
a work of art that reflects your ideas. (50% of the judging score is based on how well the artwork relates to the theme!)
A Prezi Presentation about the contest and getting started on an idea is available at the following link:
http://prezi.com/h8ul6gyz6kjm/believe-dream-inspire
We are also happy to announce a “Special Artist Division” for students with disabilities.
Entry forms, Category Guidelines, Judging Rubrics and General Rules will be available in the library. This information is also
available at: http://www.txpta.org/programs/reflections/#Student Forms and Rule
For help getting started or any questions you can email [email protected] or call Stacy Bzdok at (940) 594-0297.
