COUNSELING

DEPARTMENT NEWS

Rachel’s Challenge

Rachel’s Challenge exists to equip and inspire individuals to replace acts of

violence, bullying and negativity with acts of respect, kindness and

compassion. Rachel’s Challenge is based on the life and writings of Rachel

Joy Scott who was the first victim of the Columbine school shootings in

1999. Through her example, Rachel’s Challenge is making a positive impact

in the lives of millions of people every year (Rachel’s Challenge, 2013). The

Rachel’s Challenge Program will provide a foundation as we develop the

BETTYE MEYERS WAY of treating others with kindness, dignity and

respect.

On November 18, 2013, we will host two student assemblies, a student

training and one community event. The Rachel’s Challenge community

event will be held in the Myers gymnasium from 6 pm – 7 pm. For

additional information, please contact the BMMS Counseling Department.

Partners in Parenting

BMMS Counseling Department hosted a

Partners in Parenting meeting on October

30, 2013. Our topic: Supporting Classroom

Success! Parents were provided with an

overview of campus resources. Crystal

Sullivan, technology specialist, presented information regarding the

technology tools used in the classrooms. Our registrar, Jackie Martin,

provided parents with Home Access Assistance in the computer lab. For

more information, please visit the Partners in Parenting webpage! We

enjoyed meeting our Titan Parents and we are looking forward to the next

meeting in December!

PTA Reflections Art Contest is now open for entries!

Each year the PTA hosts a nationwide student Art contest that accepts entries for six different categories:

Visual Arts

Dance Choreography

Music Composition

Literature

Film Production

Photography

The theme this year is ……….

“Believe, Dream, Inspire”

Entries will be due November 19th to the front office and an art showing with awards will be hosted at the school for all of Myers

entries on December 5th. Top entries will move on to the District competition. All entries should include an official entry form.

We are excited to host this Contest at Myers and hope to see some great work submitted!

A student may submit any number of entries. Each category has its own rules and guidelines. It is important that the art work

relate to the theme. What do you think about when you hear these words? , What do you dream about? , What inspires you? Create

a work of art that reflects your ideas. (50% of the judging score is based on how well the artwork relates to the theme!)

A Prezi Presentation about the contest and getting started on an idea is available at the following link:

http://prezi.com/h8ul6gyz6kjm/believe-dream-inspire

We are also happy to announce a “Special Artist Division” for students with disabilities.

Entry forms, Category Guidelines, Judging Rubrics and General Rules will be available in the library. This information is also

available at: http://www.txpta.org/programs/reflections/#Student Forms and Rule

For help getting started or any questions you can email [email protected] or call Stacy Bzdok at (940) 594-0297.
