BEHIND THE WINDSCREEN

What a beautiful winter we have had There have been several days that could have been top down driving I hope everyone has had their car out putting miles on the odometer It is getting close to the beginning of Spring only about 4 weeks away Top down driving with the sun and wind in your face I look forward to see-ing friends and enjoying the fellowship brought on by the love of British cars The BIG BIG BIG event of 2017 is the Long Challenge photo scavenger hunt Charles and Perky Long have devised a really great opportunity to enjoy your British car and show your competitive spirit It only takes a few minutes to get started As you progress the drives will be further and further form your house But it will be great to be in that small cramped car with your loved one for an hour or two being told how to drive where to stop and how to poise for the picture Teresa and I have gotten about 30 pictures only about 120 more pic-tures to take so far All joking aside it has been great fun Before it gets too hot there are several activities that can get you out in you car enjoying the weather and your friends There may even be an opportunity to make a couple of new friends If you like to drive the wheels off your car the the upcoming St Patricks Day dive on March 12the ( I know St Pattys Day is the 17th) But this looked like a good day and I hope it will be a great day to welcome in the Spring We will meet in Cleveland at 2PM at the Shell Station on North Ocoee (HWY11) Supper will be about 330PM at the Monkey Town Brewing Company in Dayton Another great opportunity will the annual British Fools Bash on April 1 at Lake Tansi in Crossville Eating starts at 12 noon Central Time Zone Bring a side dish or desert to share We will meet in Dayton at 10AM Eastern for the drive to Crossville That will give us about 3 hours to drive then meet old friends and make a few new friends This will be a great time to get a few pictures of cars of color for the Long Challenge You can also get a picture showing you attendance at a British Car event that was publicized (continued on page 2)

Opportunities for local British Car events the Gatherings at the Sonic will begin on Friday May 19th Go ahead mark your calendar now It is the third Friday in May June July August September and October great time for milk shake or ice cream We gather at 730PM and often stay until10PM or later just chat-ting and having a great time This year another great opportunity to get pictures of cars of color and pic-tures of publicized British car events Townsend and Springtime in the Smokies is an annual traditional experience It really marks the begin-ning of the British car show experience for East Tennessee I believe this is the 30th annual show I believe it is about my 7th car show It is a popular vote show you may get a trophy and you may not I believe I have gotten 2 in the previous 6 years Back by request is an over night trip to the Scottish FestivalHighland Games in Blairsville GA We did this trip several years ago It will be June 10-11 I hope you will make plans to join your British car friends in the many opportunities to get out and enjoy your car this year I know I will be on the road looking for you Having SBCC Fun Mike

SBCC MEETING MINUTES FEB 13 2017 Meeting called to order at 7PM by Mike Flood President The President congratulated Charles and Perky Long for placing 7th in the nationwide Moss Chal-lenge Charles indicated they received two ball caps and a $50 gift certificate worth about $6000 Motion made and seconded to accept the minutes of the January meeting as published in the Newslet-ter Motion passed Barbara Dempsey reported the checking balance was $704290 as of 1-27-17 She also reported that the 2016 Show totals were a loss of $62395 Questions were asked concerning the loss It was mentioned that the club had donated money to Childrens Hospital Part of the proceeds from the silent auction was used for that donation Motion made and seconded to accept Motion passed Membership report given by Hank Rippert Newsletter report given by Gil DuPre Show Chairperson report Perky Long was absent Old Business January 21st drive was discussed Mike report that only he and Teresa were present due to the weather conditions He stated they drove around Ooltewah and got photos for the Long Challenge Super Bowl Party on February 5th Nineteen members and guest were present at Gil and Marge DuPres home New Business St Patricks Day drive will be Sunday March 12th We will meet in Cleveland at 2PM with plans to eat the Monkey Town Brewing Company in Dayton about 330 or 4PM This will be an early dinner More informa-tion will be emailed British Fools Bash will be held in Crossville at Lake Tansi on Saturday April 1st We will meet at the Krystal in Dayton at 10AM The start time is 11PM Central with eating to begin at 12 noon Central Springtime in the Smokies will be May 12-14 in Townsend This about the 30th time this car show has been held You need to make reservations at the Talley Ho Inn as soon as possible Information will be sent later for those who want to caravan together Scottish Festival in Blairsville GA on Saturday and Sunday June 10 and 11 More information will be sent later Other shows of interest New Orleans 24-25 March GOF South at Crystal River Fl 21-23 April Pensacola FL 22 April Submitted by Mike Flood

Sunday night February 5th the 51st Super Bowl was played Gil and Marge DuPre were gracious enough to invite club members to their house to watch the game A total of nineteen members and guest were present to watch history being made The first Su-per Bowl game to go into overtime and the largest deficit 25 points overcome With our proximity to Atlanta most present were for the Falcons Their jubilation and excitement lasted for most of the game But Tom Brady and the Patriots found a way with luck to win the game Without that fantastic catch you know the one if you were watching if not you just missed it the Falcons would probably be the champs Those in attendance were Gil and Marge Scott Vickie and Doris (Scotts mother) David Connie and Edna Earle (Connies mother) Charles and Perky Tom and Jonni Doug and Sandy Mike and Teresa Hank and Bette and Mike Hemsley SBCC Party People Mike

LONGS CHALLENGE

Today was a beautiful sunny day Teresa and I went looking for photos opportuni-ties We already had a few in our mind but then thought of a few more as we drove around Sort of a photo of opportunity At the February meeting Charles handed out more instructions and club signs to potential participants To date I have heard of of five couples playing the game It helps to have a spouse or significant other to help watch for the items to be photo-graphed It also helps to let your friends know what you are doing Faith Teresa s friend in the choir let us know where 2 photo opportunities were Today as we were driving it was Teresa who spotted the wind mill and the barn with See Rock City sign on the barn I would have never seen them because I had my eyes on the road If you have not started yet it is not too late Two hours 25-30 miles drive you can get photos of the worship centers parks and playgrounds A few waterways a county sign or two and you can be in the lead for the big prize money I hope everyone gets in the game It is not hard and it a lot of fun SBCC Good Times Mike

Sunday night February 5th the 51st Super Bowl was played Gil and Marge DuPre were gracious enough to invite club members to their house to watch the game A total of nineteen members and guest were present to watch history being made The first Su-per Bowl game to go into overtime and the largest deficit 25 points overcome With our proximity to Atlanta most present were for the Falcons Their jubilation and excitement lasted for most of the game But Tom Brady and the Patriots found a way with luck to win the game Without that fantastic catch you know the one if you were watching if not you just missed it the Falcons would probably be the champs Those in attendance were Gil and Marge Scott Vickie and Doris (Scotts mother) David Connie and Edna Earle (Connies mother) Charles and Perky Tom and Jonni Doug and Sandy Mike and Teresa Hank and Bette and Mike Hemsley SBCC Party People Mike

LONGS CHALLENGE

Today was a beautiful sunny day Teresa and I went looking for photos opportuni-ties We already had a few in our mind but then thought of a few more as we drove around Sort of a photo of opportunity At the February meeting Charles handed out more instructions and club signs to potential participants To date I have heard of of five couples playing the game It helps to have a spouse or significant other to help watch for the items to be photo-graphed It also helps to let your friends know what you are doing Faith Teresa s friend in the choir let us know where 2 photo opportunities were Today as we were driving it was Teresa who spotted the wind mill and the barn with See Rock City sign on the barn I would have never seen them because I had my eyes on the road If you have not started yet it is not too late Two hours 25-30 miles drive you can get photos of the worship centers parks and playgrounds A few waterways a county sign or two and you can be in the lead for the big prize money I hope everyone gets in the game It is not hard and it a lot of fun SBCC Good Times Mike
