Transcript of The times they are a changin'
The passing of time is determined by events. No matter how big or how small, how
important or how pointless, throughout our history people have recorded events.
Events effect who we are, they effect our mood, our actions, our values and how we
choose to spend our time. The invention of the TV has changed how we spend our
evenings. Sliced bread allowed children to help themselves to bread safely. The Big Bang
theory has caused quite a few arguments between fans of creationism and fans of
evolution. Without the invention of Lego my childhood wouldn’t have been half as
creative and if Mark Zuckerberg had never thought of Facebook I would get a lot more
work done and this book would have ten times as many pages.
This book is an exploration into how we as a society spend time, I’ve been trying to get
a grip on how particular events in world history and more particular Britain’s history
may have shaped how we spend our time today. Starting from the 1900s and moving
through to present day I have tried to illustrate each era through clocks and watches
I’ve then picked events that I feel have effected today’s society in some way, as well as
some that define that era. It’s up to you whether you feel all the events (if any) are
relevant to the time we live in today, we all value our time differently so therefore see
the importance of events in different ways.
