The Time for Love Company As one of the founders of The Time for Love Company it is a great pleasure to be invited to share with the members of the Royal Marines Association what we do. However, before I do that let me first put into context why we do it by explaining the photograph at the top of this page. The headstone is my great grandmother with 3 of her sons all of whom served in the Royal Marines. Michael John was killed in action in WWI, Thomas Henry served in WWI and WWII and died in 1946 through war service. John Denis Lyons joined up before he was 15 and he served in WWI and WWII. He was awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Medal for his bravery at Zeebrugge. Pte. John Denis Lyons Press, R.M.L.I., No. Po./15394. Private Press landed on the mole at Zeebrugge as runner to an officer of the Royal Marines. When his officer was seriously wounded, in the head and rendered unconscious, Private Press remained with him, and, although himself wounded, eventually succeeded in carrying him back on board “Vindictive.” My great grandmother had 4 sons who served in the Royal Marines, 2 died in service and 2 survived. My great grandmother married a Royal Marine and from then the Royal Marines have had a large influence on my family. My great grandmother’s daughter, my grandmother, also married a Royal Marine. 2 of her sons also joined the Royal Marines and one of her daughters also married a Royal Marine. Therefore, 3 of my uncles served in the Royal Marines and I also had a cousin, who when I was a young lad I thought was quite fearsome, joined the Marines. He served in Northern Ireland and Iraq. For some reason my father joined the Royal Green Jackets, probably to be different! There is an abridged family tree on the opposite page showing my family members who served with the Royal Marines. We have rich history with the Marines, but I’m sad to say that my generation do not know that much about how my family served the Marines. When I was younger my father and uncles would tell a little, but I was probably too young to realise the significance. Sadly, my father, along with his siblings have passed away and there is no one left to tell the story. We can find a little in the service records. As can be seen above. My great uncle John not only served gallantly during WWI, he also served well in WWII as a prisoner of war. I never knew that, I only found out when I researched his service record. I have 9 cousins and 3 siblings who would be very interested in understanding who those brave men of our family were. Between us we have 23 children who know even less. We have somewhat lost our family legacy, don’t lose yours. And this is where we can help. Colin Wilson Co Founder The Time for Love Company

As one of the founders of The Time for Love Company it is a great pleasure to be invited to share with the members of the Royal Marines Association what we do.
