The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF)

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and Wells Fargo are proud to offer financial assistance

to outstanding students attending one of the 47 publicly-supported Historically Black Colleges and

Universities (HBCUs) within the TMCF member-school network. The Wells Fargo Scholarship is

open to students with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Selected scholars will receive a one-year merit scholarship

of $7,000 for the 2017-2018 academic school year, which will be used to cover the costs of tuition and

fees, on-campus room and board and required textbooks. The funds are applied in the fall and spring

semesters at $3,500 per semester.

Wells Fargo Scholarship Requirements

Be enrolled as a college Sophomore, Junior or Senior for the 2017-2018 school year

Be enrolled as a full-time student at one of TMCF’s 47 member-schools

Current grade point average of 3.0 or higher

Overview

The Department of Defense (DoD) mission of STEM is to foster an interest in and raise awareness in

the study of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics nationwide to ensure an educated and

well-prepared workforce. In support of this mission, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund in

partnership with the DOD is pleased to offer full scholarships to qualified high school graduating

seniors. Applicants must demonstrate significant motivation and aptitude for science, technology,

Scholarship

Full, 4-year renewable scholarship, capped at $15,000 per year (for a total not to exceed $60,000)

TMCF | LOWE’S EMERGENCY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Lowe’s Emergency Scholarship Program is intended to help meet the financial needs of students

of up to $5,000 who encounter an emergency situation or one-time, unusual or unforeseen expenses

during their degree program that will prevent the student from continuing in college. Situations

eligible for funding include such events as:

Medical, dental or mental health emergencies for the student or for immediate family members* who

live with the student

Expenses related to the death of an immediate family member*

Unexpected loss of income

Rent in arrears or risk of eviction

Major accidents and events such as fire or natural disasters

Normal living expenses such as car repairs, child-care, utilities, taxes, credit card debt,

personal/student loans, insurance and pet-related expenses are not covered by this program. Tuition

and Fee expenses are not included in this program.

Eligibility:

Enrolled at any one of the 47 TMCF member-schools

Open to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors & graduate students

At Power over Life Scholarship

At Power Over Life, we’re passionate about helping others improve their lives through understanding,

and applying important life skills to help them gain power OVER their lives. We are excited to

announce the first annual Gaining Power Over Life Scholarship for the 2017-2018 school year.

This is a new scholarship we have created for 2017, and our goal is to have one every year from here

Scholarships for Nigerian Women and Girls

With estimates of the literacy rate for women in Nigeria reaching above 50%, the disparity in basic

education enrollment, retention and completion among girls in Nigeria represents a serious constraint

to its development.

Educating girls is widely viewed as the most effective investment a developing country can make. In

fact, the United Nations Population Fund maintains that a 0.3 percent boost in economic growth results

from a 1 percent increase in the number of girls finishing secondary school. Since per capita gains in

developing countries seldom exceed 3 percent a year, that's a very significant boost.

In an effort to help eliminate some of the barriers that discourage or exclude girls from the benefits of

basic and advanced education, PCNAF established its first scholarship program for Nigerian girls in

2003. The scholarship recipients were selected from each of the six regions of Nigeria, giving the

program national scope. The program targeted girls enrolled in the final level of junior secondary

school (grade 9), and supported the scholarship winners for the full three years needed to complete

their secondary school education. Fifteen girls received scholarships through that program.

Building upon the success of the inaugural program, PCNAF currently sponsors three scholarship

programs for female Nigerian students: one for secondary school girls in northern Nigeria, and two for

college students (one for students in the United States, and another program for students in Nigeria).

Nigerian Girls Scholarship Program

This program provides financial assistance to needy girls entering senior secondary school in six states

in northern Nigeria, where only 4 percent of females complete secondary school. The program

supports the scholarship recipients for the three years that it takes for them to graduate. Each scholar is

chosen on the basis of her academic record, financial need and service to her community. PCNAF is

collaborating with the Kano-based Inclusive Community Education and Development Association

(ICEADA) to implement the program.

Young Women's Scholarship Program

The Young Women's Scholarship Program is for female Nigerian undergraduate college students in

the metropolitan Washington, DC area. It was created in an effort to help ease the financial burden of

students with outstanding academic and leadership potential that are facing difficulties finding the

money to stay in school because they have an international student visa. These students are not

allowed to seek outside employment to finance their education. The program provides financial

support to young women entering their junior or senior year at a participating college or university.

2017 Application

Robert Pastor PCNAF-FON Nigerian Female Leaders Scholarship

PCNAF has partnered with Friends of Nigeria (FON) and American University of Nigeria (AUN) to

create a scholarship program at AUN that is administered as part of the President's Crisis Fund. The

purpose of this fund is to provide assistance to AUN students who experience sudden, unexpected

financial problems. Students in need of such emergency support are evaluated on a case by case basis

by the AUN President and Vice President for Finance to determine which students are most deserving.

In addition to need, the focus is on students who have a strong academic record as well as significant

participation in community service. The scholarship program targets female students from northern

Nigeria who meet these criteria.

Spring 2017 semester to graduating college seniors who need financial assistance in order to be able to

graduate at the end of their last semester of college. With the focus at the state and local levels on

completion/graduation, TMCF wants to ensure we add a funding source to your arsenal so that as

many students can graduate from our member-schools as possible.

Scholarship awards are only for students classified as Seniors and who are within 9-12 hours of their

final semester to degree attainment.

exceed $3100.

The scholarship pays tuition, fees, other educational costs, and provides a living stipend in return for a

two years) at an NHSC-approved site in a high-need urban, rural, or frontier community across the

nation.

Service begins upon graduation (and completion of primary care residency training for doctors and

dentists). The NHSC helps scholars find a practice site that's right for them. When in service, scholars

Both the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) and the American Academy of

Sanitarians (AAS) have established education in environmental health (EH) as one of their principle

goals. NEHA and AAS believe that structured education at the undergraduate and graduate levels is

important to an individual’s successful professional development in the EH field and that continuing

education is a vital component in an EH professional’s continued career growth.

As a result, the NEHA Board of Directors established a scholarship fund in 1984 that began with a gift

of $1000 from Dr. A. Harry Bliss, a NEHA Past-President, and personal donations from NEHA Board

Members. Because of their strong belief in scholarship programs, AAS also made a financial donation

to the NEHA program, allowing NEHA to increase the number of undergraduate scholarships

awarded. As the program grew, NEHA offered scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate

students pursuing studies in the EH field. In 1996, NEHA and AAS decided to jointly fund

undergraduate and graduate EH scholarships and call them the NEHA/AAS Scholarships. Funding for

the scholarships is continually obtained from donations, proceeds from association fund-raisers and

NEHA/AAS budget commitments. By offering the NEHA/AAS Scholarships to eligible undergraduate

Thurgood Marshall College Fund - S.M.A.R.T. Scholarship For Service Program

The Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service

The DOE CSGF is open to U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens who plan full-time, uninterrupted

study toward a Ph.D. at an accredited U.S. university. We encourage applications from students in

engineering and the physical, computer, mathematical or life sciences who meet the following

eligibility requirements. The fellowship provides four years of support, but must be renewed each

summer.

ELIGIBILITY

The following criteria will be used to determine the eligibility of those applying for DOE CSGF. At

the time of application, eligibility will apply to:

Undergraduate seniors

Applicants with no more than B.S. or B.A. degrees who are not enrolled in graduate school

First-year graduate students (M.S. degree or Ph.D. students without an M.S. degree)

During the fellowship period, fellows are required to be enrolled as full-time graduate students at an

Open to student members of the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE), this scholarship is

awarded to two students working on degrees in health education. Applicants must demonstrate

financial need and future career plans to work as public health educators. They must also be in good

academic standing with their current program, enrolled full-time and include transcripts and degree

Tate Law Offices Scholarship

Tate Law Offices PC will award three scholarships totaling $3,000 to students who are high school

juniors or seniors or students enrolled at two-year or four-year colleges and universities in the United

States. To apply for a scholarship, students should submit an original essay of approximately 500

words on the following topic:

How has distracted driving caused by texting and using social media or mobile apps affected you

personally? What actions can local, state, and federal leaders take to help minimize traffic accidents

related to distracted driving without overly restricting personal freedoms? What can individuals do to

hold themselves accountable to practicing safe driving habits? Each winner will receive a check from

the law firm Tate Law Offices PC. These funds must be used to pay for education-related expenses.

Any applicable federal, state, and local taxes on the scholarship will be the sole responsibility of the

scholarship recipients. The scholarship contest is open to juniors and seniors in high school and

students enrolled in two-year and four-year colleges and universities in the United States. Applicants

who are 17 years old or younger will need to provide parental consent to enter.
