Jan, Cindy, Pam, Maureen & Tom, and “The Secret Chef” all had a hand in creating this months’ newsletter. Thanks so much! Secondly, on a serious note, please be sure to watch for strange activity in our neighborhood. Strange activity includes strangers driving around our neighborhood slowly, or worse, watching our children. There were a couple of instances in the past weeks that included strangers following children. Be aware that these strangers might be driving anything – from a late model Lexus to anything else. The Leander police are cruising our neighborhood, assisting us with this feet. Another thing, speaking of crime, is that our neighborhood participated in the National Night Out this past August 1st. One of the reasons for this is to show ‘strangers’ that our community is aware they exist and that we are banding together as a community to help one another. Have you noticed the sign on Crystal Falls Parkway beside Ridgewood North neighborhood? There are meetings concerning the future of the land beside that portion of our neighborhood. It seems as though another neighborhood is coming to our neck of the woods. Will they be a part of our HOA? Stay tuned for updates in the coming months. I also noticed a bond was passed in Leander, and many items were cut from it. The top item on the list was not cut, however. Which means they are going to begin widening Crystal Falls Parkway from US 183 to Leander Street up to 5 lanes, and from that point to Ronald Reagan Parkway up to 4 lanes. It will be nice (once it is complete, that is)! If you would like to add anything for our next newsletter, feel free to forward an email to [email protected] by the 8th of the month. Have a great month, stay safe, and please contact or visit our advertisers. Crime Watch Alert Due to recent suspicious activity in Ridgewood south, please report any suspicious person(s) or vehicles to the Leander Police Immediately at 528-2800. National Night Out Brings Neighbors Together They came one and all for the Ridgewood “Fun in the Sun” National Night Out. There was food, fun and friendship galore at the pool on August First. We had Fajitas and all the fixin’s, DJ Boomer Sound doing the mixin’. The Leander Fire Department was on hand to show off their brand new Ladder Truck, complete with 70’ ladder. Their mascot Sparky was on hand to visit with the kids of all ages. Also lending a hand was the Leander Police Department who provided Indent-A-Kid kits, coloring books, pencils and even handgun safety locks. A big thank you goes out to the Social/Crimewatch and Pool Committees for sponsoring the event.

Ridgewood in the Yard – September1. Make your selections of spring fl owering bulbs as soon as they

become available. Don’t wait for the close-out bargains, as these are usually dried out and lack the necessary chilling needed for good fl ower production. Store bulbs in a cool place until ready to plant, preferably about 40 degrees. The refrigerator is a great place.

2. Prepare beds for planting springs bulbs so they are ready when you need them.

3. Begin to groom pot plants that have been outdoors this summer. Repot or cut back overgrown plants, groom and fertilizer before bringing them inside.

4. Continue insect and disease control sprays on roses if maximum beauty and blooms are desired.

5. Time to plant or to divide and transplant daylilies, bearded iris, Shasta daisies, violets, etc.

6. September marks the beginning of the brown patch season on St. Augustine lawns. Apply PCNB (Terraclor) to those areas of the lawn with past history of brown patch. Also watch other lawn areas and apply control at the fi rst sign of disease occurrence.

7. There is still time to sow Bermuda grass seed and get it established before cold weather. Broadcast one pound of seed per 600 sq ft for best coverage.

8. Fertilize the lawn this month with a fertilizer containing a Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potassium ration of 3-1-2.

9. Fall fl owering annuals and perennials still require plenty of moisture if the fl owers are to be attractive.

10. Clean established garden beds and replenish mulch materials where needed. Remove faded annuals and cut back perennials that have fi nished fl owering.

11. Save major pruning jobs for mid-winter.

12. Bluebonnet and other wildflower seeds can be planted this month.
