Regards, Mrs. Karen Trunk
Dear families,
It was such fun to see so many of you this week! We had our famous Kindergarten Christmas show on Tuesday evening, and the house was full! Students remember this show and reminisce about what part they had years later. Frosty, elves, Suzy Snowflakes, multiple Santas and reindeer plus many more costumes for holidays around the world round out the show. A visit from Santa in the evening also brings eyes of wonder and joy to so many of our students.
Next week, our student council will sponsor a week of holiday fun days. This fun week supports United Way, and for a $1.00 donation students participate all week, or they can choose .25 per day. Staff and students alike can celebrate the holidays, while supporting an important charity in our area. Winter holiday parties will take place on Friday afternoon from 2:00-2:30. Please remember that all party volunteers must be fingerprinted at the board office in advance, and younger children are unfortunately not permitted to attend per district policy.
Looking ahead to the second semester, please note that the district has finalized our Ohio AIR testing schedule for 3r, 4th and 5th grade students, and we have published it on another page of this Limb. Please save it and prepare for the dates listed. We ask that you plan ahead and keep those dates free from doctor appointments and prearranged absences if at all possible. Although it is natural to have a little anxiety over these assessments, the stress does rise for students when they take a make-up test. Often, the make-up test is done in my office, or with an unfamiliar staff member, which removes the comfort of having their regular teacher nearby.
Although we have one more week of school before winter break, I do wish all of you a very Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and overall that you have the opportunity to spend enriching time with family and friends. Curling up on the couch or in front of the fire and reading a book together with your child is an awesome way to spend a quiet winter day. Also, replenishing school supplies is a great way to fill stockings. Dry erase markers, pencils, erasers and markers are needed as we move into the second semester of the year.

You will be asked to provide your Social Security number.
Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
For the security of all, please do
not allow anyone to “piggy-
back” when you either enter or
exit the building. It is district
policy that all visitors announce their name
and purpose prior to admittance to a
building. A polite statement would be
something to the effect of, “I’m sorry.
Please buzz the office for admittance into
the building.” We appreciate everyone’s
diligence in this matter. Thank you!
Vision Statement IV: Provide a safe and secure environment in which students can grow academically and socially.
As part of our District Strategic Plan, Mentor Public Schools seeks to ensure the safety of students and staff in our buildings. As part of our district safety plan, every building completes at least one “Lock Down” drill each year. These unannounced drills, in addition to the regularly scheduled fire and tornado drills can be frightening for younger students as they begin their school experience. Please take a few moments to talk to your young child about safety and security at school. The adults in the buildings take their job of keeping students safe very seriously; as always, if you have any questions please contact your school principal.
NO IDLE ZONE!
Parents, please remember that the
sidewalk in front of the school is a Fire Lane
with no parking or stopping. If you are
dropping off for We Care, please park your
car in a legal parking space and walk your
children in. If you are dropping off before the
start of school, please pull up to the open
space in the black fence and Mr. Phillips will
assist students who are exiting vehicles.
Thank you so much for your
cooperation.
An important reminder:

please notify the office by 9:00; also indicate
whether your child will be purchasing a school
lunch.
Absence

your request after 3:00 pm.

please indicate this by using the yellow note from
home paper. Phone calls should be for
emergency purposes only; before 2:00pm please.
Orchard Hollow School General Information
A Dismissal Reminder: Please know that there is no
supervision for those students who leave the building
without an adult, also known as “walkers.” There is
no crossing guard for those students walking into the
Pinegate Neighborhood. We understand that many
students are met by an adult at the sidewalk;
however, in the event there is a mix-up or a circumstance causing
a delay, the children may be walking home alone. This is quite
concerning, especially for our youngest students. Students
designated as “Pick-Ups” do not leave the building without an
authorized adult signing them out. You may change your child’s
dismissal at any time by sending in a note to your child’s teacher.

Dear Parents: When sending in
cash money to the school, please take special care to write both
your child’s first AND last name,
the teacher’s name and the purpose of the money on the envelope to ensure that the
correct account is being credited. We
appreciate your cooperation with this matter. Thank you.
