We have been into spring for one week now andit doesn’t really feel like it. I woke up this morning toanother blanket of snow on the ground. Last year onthis date the temperature was 16 degrees celsiusaccording to Environment Canada. The averagetemperature for the month of March was 13 degreesand a few days were up to as high as 24 degrees. Thatis a far cry from the weather we have been experiencingthis year.

The good thing about snow in March is that itdoesn’t last very long. By 11:00 a.m. that blanket ofsnow was gone.

In 2011 we had much the same kind of spring aswe are experiencing now. The average temperature ofMarch was 4 degrees. In 2010 the average temperatureof March was almost 9 degrees so we were somewherein between. The average in 2009 was 6 degrees and in2008 it was 2.6 degrees. This just goes to prove thatMarch is really a wild card in the weather department. You never know exactly what to expect, no matter whatthe groundhog tries to tell us.

October’s average temperature last year was 15degrees. In 2011 it was 15 degrees, 2010 was 16degrees, 2009 was 13 degrees, and 2008 was 15degrees. It seems our fall averages are much closer inline than our spring. There goes the theory that an earlyspring brings an early fall.

Hopefully the snow this year subsides andallows for a warm Easter Egg Hunt for the kids at theBrunner Centre on Saturday. Digging the eggs out ofthe snow won’t be much fun.

No matter what March’s weather has been, thegood news is April is almost here and with it will comewarmer weather.

MALLETTE: In memory of Alice Mallette who passed away two yearsago today, March 27, 2011.God looked around His garden and found an empty place,He then looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face.He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest,God’s garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best.He knew that you were suffering, He knew you were in pain.He knew that you would never get well on earth again. He saw that the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb,So He closed your weary eyelids and whispered, “Peace Be Thine”.It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.Loving you, missing you & remembering you every day,Your family,Jerry, Ron & Barb, Lyn & John, Carol & Wayne, Donna & Clyde and Mike

Chatham-Kent’s Transportation employees were at Thamesville United Church onThursday, March 21st to host a public information session on public transit. They weretrying to provide information on the upcoming tender process for the services and see ifthere was an interest in Thamesville being added to the Inter-Urban route. All contractswill be renewed for January of 2014 and will run until December of 2018. CurrentlyAbout Town has the contract for Accessible transit in Chatham, WinRide has the contractfor the Inter-Urban and Conventional transit in Chatham and Cadillac Cabs has the con-tract for Accessible transit in Wallaceburg. The transit service is area rated so currentlyThamesville does not pay for the services but if they chose to become part of the Inter-Urban route that would change. The price for a one way trip for an adult on the bus is$5.00 and that is expected to rise to $6.00 with the new contract. The bus stops at the var-ious communities four times daily. The meeting did not have any residents attend and sothis is an indicator that Thamesville does not feel the need to be part of the route. Picturedabove are Engineering Technologists with Chatham-Kent, Jan Metcalfe and BarrySullivan at the Open House.
