THE TEXAS POLICY VOICE FOR HEALTHCARE AND BIOSCIENCE

SINCE 1996

THBI is the statewide advocacy and public policy organization representing the life sciences in Texas

The mission of the Texas Healthcare and Bioscience Institute (THBI) is to develop and advocate policies and actions that support biomedical science, biotechnology, agriculture and medical device innovation in Texas. THBI is the Texas public policy voice for the healthcare and bioscience industry. Among the many efforts we undertake, we work to promote effective legislation and a steady regulatory environment at the state and federal levels. THBI is championing the way to position Texas as a global leader within the biotechnology and life sciences industries. Join us!

WHY JOIN THBI?THBI’s structure is designed to represent the needs and

interests of bioscience communities and constituencies, both

large and small, throughout the state and across the entire life

Together we are stronger.

In 2015, Governor Greg Abbott passed legislation to create a new Governor’s University Research Initiative (GURI), which allocated $40 million to attract and recruit top researchers to Texas’ higher education institutions.

Texas is the nation’s leader in job creation adding over 2 million jobs in the last 10 years as of December 2015.

Texas has one of the lowest tax burdens in the country with no corporate income tax and no individual income tax.

Communities and Economic Development OrganizationsYou need a seat at the table as THBI works to maintain public policy initiatives that will foster job growth in the healthcare and bioscience industries. THBI engages the state’s economic organizations to advocate for economic development and job growth while keeping regulations steady and predictable.

AcademicsGet involved with our member companies and communities. THBI advocates for funding to research institutions promoting innovation for life sciences. Join THBI and network with those who have the resources needed to move ideas from the laboratory, to the manufacturer, to the patient. Great collaboration starts here.

Private EnterpriseBig or small, start up or long established, THBI is your voice at the state and federal level. THBI advocates on behalf of its members for a regulatory and business environment where bioscience can flourish and thrive. If you are a healthcare or bioscience company, or if you work with one, we are your state association and we need your participation.

THBI advocates on behalf of its membership for issues including: economic development, research oversight and appropriations, ethics and regulatory issues, manufacturing, and tax issues affecting Texas’ life science industry. These policies affect every segment of the life sciences, from academic research to agricultural biotechnology, medical device development, pharmaceutical research, and traditional biotechnology.
