    Introduction

Not a day goes by without the Syrian regime committing numerous types of gross

violations of human rights in different cities and regions of Syria. While the Syrian

regime has long been renowned for having among the worst human rights recordsin the world, the intensity and frequency of the current violations has taken a whole

new dimension since the beginning of the Syrian Revolution in March. This has led

the United Nations Human Rights Council to consider that the [Assad regime] hadcommitted crimes against humanity.

In this report, published by the Local Coordinating Committees in Syria (LCC), we

have documented some of the violations committed during the reporting period,

selecting the most heinous violations with most severe consequences, as well as

considering geographical diversity. This report is certainly not exhaustive with

regard to all the violations committed during this period, due to the impossibility of

following the high numbers of incidents that are repeatedly being witnessed in

dozens of cities and towns throughout the country.

The sources of this report rely greatly on the monitoring and documentation work

of the LCC, either through its legal teams or through its media office. LCC field

workers collect information from various sources and cross-check it to ensure

accuracy. Information is also collected from direct testimonies from victims and

their families; for statistics of martyrs we rely on the figures from the Centre for

Documentation of Violations in Syria,www.vdc-sy.org,which cross-checks its

information on a continuous basis through the activists working with the centre.

The LCC would like to thank all those who helped contribute to this report, and

welcomes any comments or suggestions. Please contact us using the informationbelow.

    Homs

On 16 November 2011, a 5-year-old named Muatasim Abdelkarim Barghout was

killed while at home in his neighborhood of Baba Amr. The boy was standing near

the window when he suddenly fell to the floor and his blood began to flow,

indicating he had been hit by a sniper's bullet. He died a moment later.

He died the same day as Abd el Kafi, who was killed in the Bayada neighborhood bysecurity forces bullets:

The following day, security forces conducted a raid in the industrial area north of

Homs, under the cover of heavy gunfire, and carried out a widespread campaign of

arbitrary arrests. Many in the Bayada neighborhood were injured as a result of

grenades being thrown at them from the Cairo checkpoint; three women were also

injured by gunfire being fired at their vehicles from the Qusur checkpoint.

On the same day, the corpse of Abdel Qader Hijazi, who died under torture one

month after being arrested, was handed over:

On November 18, attorney Dr. Muhammad Farhan Abu Al-Kheir, 45, was also killed.

He had been a lecturer at the Faculty of Law at the Baath University. He was shot at

the entrance to his home by someone waiting in a nearby car, which belonged to

    security forces.

On November 20, 2011, Farzat Yahya Jerban died under torture. He had been a well-known figure in many videos of demonstrations filmed since the beginning of the

Revolution. His eyeball was removed and his face mutilated. The body was found

near the Ahli Hospital in Qasir after he was detained the previous day by Air Force

Intelligence. He was in good health when he was arrested, thus proving that his

death constitutes an act of execution after his being subjected to torture and severe

    ill-treatment.
