MESSAGE FROM THE EAST

Andy Paradowski, Worshipful Master

The contributions of every Brother in our Lodge are important. Some brothers are limited

by geographical location, physical condition, or time constraints, yet we are all able to

make meaningful contributions to the Craft. It all starts with you.

The following are some easy ways to be involved:

* Help fill the sidelines for a degree.

* Come to a meeting

* Attend a dinner or social event

* Volunteer for a committee

* Give another brother a ride to Lodge

Even if you are constrained by time, physical condition, or geography, you can do the

following:

* Talk to a friend or Colleague about the Craft

* Visit a Brother or Widow

* Call or write a brother you have not seen for a while

* Send a note and let us know how you are doing.

If not you, then who? Without you, the Brethren, this Lodge cannot function. Your input

is valuable and desired. We have countless years of Masonic experience in our

membership, and it would be a shame not to be able to call on that experience and

expertise for the benefit of the Craft.

MAN OF THE YEAR

Brothers from GW1776 and AuroraLodges gathered with their familiesand friends to honor this year’s Man ofthe Year, North Shore FireDepartment Chief David J. Berousekat the George Washington AnnualDinner. Also attending the awardpresentation, were NSFD Boardmembers, Michael West, Fox PointVillage President, and Sam Dickman,Bayside Village President. After a brief introduction and awardpresentation, Chief Berousek gave hisacceptance speech followed by aquestion and answer period. The firstquestion asked, “Why do Firemenwear red suspenders?” The Chiefreplied, “The usual answer is ‘to keeptheir pants up’ but we know it’s because Firemen arealways fashion conscious.” After the initial frivolity, the questions became moreserious. Berousek explained that Fire trucks arrive atan emergency before an ambulance even when thereis no fire, because they are designed for more rapidresponse and they can get there and stabilize those inneed of help until an ambulance can arrive. The dinner began with a prayer, the Pledge and averse of “God Bless America” followed by a toast toBrother George Washington and a hearty rendition of“Yankee Doodle.” Toasts continued between dinnercourses for Ben Franklin, Paul Revere and Betsy Rosswith the final toast saved for Chief Berousek. The dinner was delicious and the companyenchanting. If you missed this one, you will definitelywant to join us next time! Our next dinner will be theLadies of the Table dinner in May. Be sure to come!

Our Brother Tony Busalacchi, PMhas been keeping himself busy byvolunteering with the MasonicService Association’s HospitalVisitation Program. According to The Masonic ServiceAssociation of North America, thisprogram is their major relief work.“The Masonic Hospital VisitationProgram is, without a doubt, thefinest public relations program everundertaken by the Masonicfraternity.” The program involves more thanjust “visitations” to the disabled andlonely patients in V.A. Hospitals,State Hospitals, and Extended CareFacilities, but also includes renderingpersonal services to the veteranswho have sacrificed so much for thefreedoms we all enjoy. Brother Tony spends his daysescorting and transporting patientswithin the V.A. Hospital. He meetskids in their teens who recentlyreturned from Iraq as well as WWII &Korean War Vets.

A friendly smile, kind word, andwarm embrace mean more than medicine to our brothers in arms.Tony’s unselfish act of kindness is atestament to the values for which ourcraft stands. “The Hospital Visitation Programis a vital part of the Fraternity thatdeserves your attention and needsyour immediate help.”
