Page 5 The Griffin The Summer Concert As the summer season is now with us the Performing Arts departments here at The Thomas Lord Audley School celebrated in style with a spectacular evening of entertainment. The Summer Concert celebrated success across Drama, Music and Dance departments with over 50 students involved in the evening. The Year 9 GCSE Music class opened the evening with a demonstration of their work on Middle Eastern drumming, they certainly demonstrated what they had learnt and kicked the show off with a bang. We were also treated to a variety of pieces of work which celebrated the life and works of William Shakespeare in this his 400 th Anniversary year. Nate Drury and Josh Webb gave a hilarious rendition of the Blackadder sketch ‘Hamlet Re-visited’ while Year 9s Chloe, Magda, Connor and Emma gave a modern twist on A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The concert also boasted a wonderful array of musical instrumentalists with Sam Copus, Josh Cathmoir and Daniel Garbuja playing the piano in beautiful piano solos and Cameron Moye and Joe Blair entertaining us on their clarinets with some chirpy summer hits. The vocalists were also a roaring success with a lovely solo from Holly Craig and a duet from Elena Low and Zoe Killen The Musical Club brought a passionate performance from the talented Chloe Coleman singing ‘Naughty’ from the musical Matilda and ensemble pieces from Wicked and Billy Elliot. With so many acts there was something for everyone; especially to set the summer mood was the Ukulele Club who gave a bouncy rendition of ‘Little Talks’ by Of Monsters and Men which included a kazoo solo from the multi-talented Sam Copus. Dance was also a strong feature of the night with both KS3 and KS4 dance clubs offering their own contributions. Morwenna Saunders tap solo supported by the confident and classy Year 10 girls to ‘BANG BANG’ by Will.I.AM was a fantastic performance, Miss Price worked with the girls to highlight their strengths very successfully. The year 7 and 8 dance club were full of energy in their dance choreographed by Miss D’Andrea, it was wonderful to see some new faces taking part in school concerts. We were treated to a wonderful cover of Phil Collins, ‘In the air tonight’ from Mr Hazell and Ben Constable. Mr Hazell performed his heart out and Ben displayed yet again what a talented young man he is. This was followed by Rockschool and their rendition of ‘Holiday’ which had the audience dancing in their seats. To close the evening the school choir accompanied by Ben Constable, Sam Copus, Hector Woods, Elliot Berry and Rhys Austin performed a very summery version of ‘Walking on Sunshine’. We would like to thank everyone for another successful concert and look forward to many more events in the future. Miss Parker and Mrs Curd Head of Drama and Head of Music
