The Submarine Depth - Control System The figure A illustrates the submarine depth- control problem. The object is to adjust the actual depth C to equal a desired depth R. The control system depends on a pressure transduser, which is used to measure the actual depth. Any difference between the actual and desired depths is amplified and it is used to drive the stern plane actuator through an appropriate angle until the actual depth equals the desired depth. An equivalent block diagram of such a system is illustrated in Figure B. Utilising the Routh-Hurwitz criterion, show this system is stable for the parameters indicated.

The Submarine Depth - Control System
The figure A illustrates the submarine depth- control problem. The object is to adjust the
actual depth C to equal a desired depth R. The control system depends on a pressure
transduser, which is used to measure the actual depth. Any difference between the actual and
desired depths is amplified and it is used to drive the stern plane actuator through an
appropriate angle until the actual depth equals the desired depth. An equivalent block
diagram of such a system is illustrated in Figure B. Utilising the Routh-Hurwitz
criterion, show this system is stable for the parameters indicated.
