The study of
microorganisms.
Microorganisms are living things so tiny they can only be seen through a
microscope.
Microbiologists also deal with the structure, classification,
physiology, and distribution of microorganisms, and their
technical and medical significance.
Microbiologists deal with the biology of Protozoa, Algae, Fungi, Bacteria, and viruses.
This is Escherichia coli
(E.coli), one of the many organisms microbiologists
study. The one on the right is pictured in a culture.
Microbiologists study microorganisms. At Rose Bay,
there are hundreds of organisms which can be
studied. We can learn a lot from studying microorganisms
and find cures for some diseases that are caused by
microorganisms and bacteria.
Microbiologists also study Candida
albicans, which is a Fungus.
Microbiologists work with the cultivation of bacteria or other organisms in artificial media or
under artificial conditions.
Cultures are the collection of organisms resulting from such
a cultivation.
