THE STORY Borgo Scopeto is an old and well-established estate producer of Chianti Classico. It is a true borgo - a hamlet with its own church, post office, town center, and residences. Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini owns Borgo Scopeto, along with Altesino, Caparzo, and Doga delle Clavule, and she and winemaker Massimo Bracalente are responsible for all aspects of the production of Borgo Scopeto wines. e first bottle of Chianti Classico with the Borgo Scopeto label dates back to 1990. THE TERROIR Chianti Classico, in the center of Tuscany, is considered the heart of the Chianti wine producing region. It encompasses 18,000 acres, bordered on the north by Florence and to the south by Sienna. It includes the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, which is where Borgo Scopeto is located. Castelnuovo Berardenga is the southern-most commune within the Chianti Classico zone, and the vineyard areas have some of the largest limestone deposits. Being the southern- most zone of the region, the Castelnuovo Berardenga wines tend to be the most ripe and richest tasting in the region. ey enjoy very high stature in the grand scheme of quality for Chianti Classico. THE WINES Chianti Classico DOCG A classic expression of Sangiovese and Chianti Classico thanks to the perfect exposures and optimal soil conditions of the vineyards. e label shows the historic heart of the estate. Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG “Misciano” A single-vineyard Chianti Classico produced from the oldest vines on the estate. It is only produced in excellent vintages, after a rigorous selection of the grapes. “Misciano” refers to a small hamlet abandoned in the 15 th century, which lends its name to the important vineyard from where this wine hails. Borgonero Toscana IGT A Super Tuscan blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, which is aged 18 months in barriques and for eight or more months in bottle before release. Its name recalls an ancient agricultural settlement in the area. Vin Santo del Chianti Classico DOC A traditional Tuscan passito-style dessert wine made from Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes. e grapes are dried for 3 months in well-ventilated rooms, soft-pressed, and the wine is then aged for 4 years in traditional small casks called caratelli.
